The Note 8 is a great device and it does feel a bit unbalanced as stated.
I like the device. Not sure how useful the stylus is to me yet though.
I almost want to go to and 8 plus, just simply because of the ease of use and the camera. (Just a simple phone to use) it is ageing in my eyes a bit though.
I also already have the Apple Watch which I like for notifications.
So not sure may go 8+ and keep my Apple Watch or may move down to the s8+ and go to the Gear S3...

The camera and ease of use and having the Apple Watch makes me want to stay with Apple. I’m not happy with having to make purchases in the Apple store often for apps I like vs. android where most of there’s are free. That’s a big let down, plus I’ve had Apple for like 4 years so it’s a bit boring.
The android has tons of customization which can be a pro or con for some....
I greatly prefer the Gear S3 to the Apple Watch I had for 2 years. And I really liked the Apple Watch.

Gear i found good for notifications and the design is great but the lack of apps makes it a complete non starter when comparing to the apple watch for me. Would totally miss the apple watch personally. Saying that i have the nike watch now and use it with LTE so thats another reason why it's at a high level for me.

I used an Apple Watch daily for 2 years. What apps do you use on the Apple Watch that are a necessity that aren't what came on it when you bought it? What percentage of time do you spend using them, and how much less efficient is it to do them on your phone instead?

The reason I ask that is that I've posted threads about AW apps that I used and liked. But at the end of the day, 95% of what I use on the watch was time, notifications, messaging, music, workout, timers, weather, etc.. This is the stuff that comes on it out of the box. All the other apps, like getting a boarding pass or something, didn't change my life much if I didn't have it. The reason I have forgone the plethora of Apps, is that the UI and experience with the stuff I use 95% of the time on the Gear 3 is better (to me). I'd love to have more app choices, but other than being able to show them to someone for a short wow, its not that big of a deal. For example, I can on the Apple Watch do my VPN authentication on my watch. Its cool and people are always amazed when I show that. But 100% of the time when I do it, my phone is laying right in front of me and its actually quicker to respond to it on the phone.... just not as cool.

for me personally i use the following apps alot daily

workout
nike app
sofascore
ESPN
Pocketcasts
onefootball
365scores
news
natwests
sports alerts
weather

Certain apps above just save me time when i have my phone on the side and want quick access and with series 3 it's lightening quick so speed wise i'm not missing out on much.

also I tend to go on walks without my phone due to the LTE of the series 3 so for that it's well worth using those kind of apps.

I'm not quite as addicted to sports scores as you seem to be, but I believe you could easily accomplish this via notifications. I have the MLB app and have the notifications set to get what I want and they come through the Gear S3 fine with no app needed. I like the workout app on Gear S3 better than Apples... much easier to navigate with sweaty hands. So bottom line, you could accomplish what you are doing on Gear S3 if you were so inclined. There would be some pros and cons each way.

It all depends how you use your devices. Everybody is different afterall. I wouldn't say obessed but when i'm out and about it's easier to check my watch than get my phone out and the times when i'm not near my phone it's ideal.

Also battery life wise it helps throughout a day

apps is a big reason why the apple watch is very popular. Just a shame new watch faces aren't available.

I agree with you on it being easier to check the watch than pulling out the phone. When I bought a larger phone - 6S+, that is when I bought the Apple Watch. I really liked the combo. You'll find a lot of threads in the AW forum here where I talked about the apps I used on it.

The reality is that most of what I do on my watch is via what came on it out of the box. There are certainly some great apps on AW, but they were infrequently used, and didn't greatly change my experience vs. just using my phone. For example, I can do my VPN 2 factor authentication on my watch, but I can't think of a case when I didn't also have my phone laying next to me and could have just as easily have used it.

The Gear S3 UI is a lot better and easier to use, with the rotating dial. And the built in apps are all very good.

The other irony is you mentioned its a shame AW doesn't have more faces... that is the one area the Gear S3 has nailed. There is a watch face store so there are many available.

There are pros and cons between them; but I have been very pleasantly surprised with how much I like the Gear S3. I just got back from the gym a half hour ago. Took in just my Gear S3 and Beats X. I streamed the Spotify Workout playlist during my workout, and then switched to a different one when I was stretching. I changed activities several times in the Health app and worked very well with the dial. With AW, I always had trouble swiping screens our using the crown while running. On the way home I stopped and got gas and paid at the pump with the Gear S3. Samsung Pay in the US works nearly everywhere.

Its not all perfect as I said... pros and cons. But the gym experience is one of the places I rely on it the most and really don't want to have my phone with me. That kind of trumps some of the other infrequent use cases.

Any interest in the Gear sport?

I don't know that much about the Gear Sport. One of the things that seals the deal on the Gear S3 is the rotating dial, so losing that would be a big let down. Is such a better navigation mechanism than the Apple Watch has... especially with sweaty hands at the gym.

How are people getting to the home screen from sleep ? Coming from the x it’s hard work x was look at it swipe up bang, this your either fumbling to find the sensor on the back or using the iris unlock when it works is there a quicker way cheers

Got the note 8 currently and I actually miss my iphone a bit. I'm thinking of going to an 8 plus for the intrem and seeing what happens next year.
Either way I'll use my current Apple watch or I'll switch to the Gear sport if I stay with my note 8.
I played with iphone while I had the note 8 and the iphone seems to do some I may have overlooked before. Just Apple needs to allow a little bit more customization. The note 8 is almost overkill and The Apple doesn't have much in the way of customization. It'll be nice to find a mid point...
