Keep in mind, this issue is much more noticeable with dimmer screen settings. Going full blast the brightness overpowers your eyes making it harder to see.
Checked red, yellow and white on very low brightness. All good.

I exchanged my iPhone 8 today because of uneven brightness with dinginess around the bottom quarter of screen. The replacement is perfect. The new screen is brighter overall with no uneveness in color. Of course no one at the Apple Store could see the problem but I had no trouble with the exchange. Good luck to everyone doing a return or replacement.

Did they give you any hassle about the exchange. I am looking to exchange mine as well, did a few reboots on my 8 Plus and a white line showed down at the bottom of the screen (black screen before apple logo shows) so I was looking to get a exchange done on it. I dont have anything to take a picture of it with and I know how they are about reproducing issues before moving to the next step.

No real hassle to speak of. Two technicians couldn't see what I was talking about of course and it is difficult to see any unevenness under those bright lights in the Apple stores. The technician ran a diagnostic test on it so we could compare the problem under different colors and of course you can't see unevenness looking at dark colors. The test result was normal at which point the technician gave up and said I could exchange it since I was in the 2 week period. He was very nice overall and I sat there knowing I had the trump card I could use at any time, but it didn't get to that. The only down side was that the store was very busy and I was there quite awhile. Just remember that you can return that phone for any reason in the first 2 weeks after purchase and either exchange it or just return and buy another.

OK cool thanks, this is my first preorder purchase of any Apple products so this is all new to me. I usually wait a couple of months before purchasing but my 6 plus decided it had enough and bit the dust.

I have seen threads on this for previous Plus models, but have not seen one for the 8+.

My 8 plus screen brightness / colour changes from left to right as phone stands in portrait orientation. Left side is brighter/yellow and 1-2cm of right side is darker/bluer.

It's not extremely bad, but I am noticing it when reading text from left to right and is distracting.

I had this previously on an iPad Air gen 1 and replaced and the replacement was better, almost perfect.

First, is anyone else seeing this?
Second, what's the opinion, is it worth swapping this one out? I'm trying to gauge the likelihood of a better screen on replacement.

Thanks

Edit: I've uploaded a photo. As always, it's hard to show issues like these in a photo but you can see it slightly towards the right.

Oh great, another model with the same issue. I was having the same screen uniformity problem with 6, 6s and now 7.
My iPhone 7 has identical uniformity problem, the only difference is that the screen on my phone is darker/cooler on the top left.
I was really hopping that iPhone 8 won't have the same problem.

I've tried 3 phones and all 3 have an uneven backlight. Thankfully one of them wasn't as bad, and was as close to perfect as i'll get i think.

Turn off true tone and see if it’s still there.
Funny enough, I have the same problem, but turning off the true tone display makes the issue less apparent.

The other thing to keep in mind is that while IPS displays have pretty good viewing angles, they aren’t perfect.
What do you mean?

8 Plus, I think I am having a similar issue where the display near the bottom (when holding in portrait mode) is slightly, slightly, slightly darker than the rest of the screen, I cannot tell for sure if it's an optical illusion or if I'm seeing things or what, but putting a complete white image on the screen and rotating the phone around, it looks like the LCD is not as smoothly attached to the screen near the bottom as it is at the top.

Other than that the display is perfect, I'm going to have some friends look at it before I decide to exchange it, since I am well within the 14-day return period.

It's so unnoticeable I don't think you can really see it in a picture, and to most folks it may look normal, but since I've seen it I can't "unsee" it. Or maybe I'm losing my mind.
That is exactly my issue with the 8+, and yes, I also feel like I’m losing my mind over this. I really don’t know what to do about it, because if I exchange it, there’s a probability that the new phone is going to have the same issue, and it could be worse.

This problem occurs on pretty much every iphone and ipad iteration released to date. All you can do is keep exchanging until you get one with uniform display. Acceptable tollerances for screens must be quite loose.

I guess you’re right. As soon as I noticed it, after unboxing the phone, it was pretty hard to ‘not see it’. I already scheduled an appointment at the nearest Apple Store, I hope they can help me with this.

Same issue for me. The vertical edges seem to be an off tint, making The Center seem more yellow. My screen also has a yellow tinge compared to my friends. Night shift and true tone off on both.

I went to the Apple store and mine was more yellow that all of them. Almost all had some Color shift though.

I called the carrier and they’re sending me a new one.

I would exchange it while you still can, and check it in the store (maybe see if they will let you walk outside the store away from their bright lighting - I checked mine when I picked it up originally because I have had funky screens in the past and it looked OK in the store).

I wound up returning mine and going back to the SE because I found the Plus to be more unwieldy than I thought it would be, plus the fact I didn't realize how much I used my phone one handed... until I couldn't. Oh well, it wasn't meant to be I suppose.

Just make sure you set up an appointment to exchange it because when I walked in the store to return mine they put me in the "line" and I had to wait about 30 min just to speak to someone to start the return process. Kind of silly on their part but I guess they want to make it as difficult as possible to give something back to them...

Got my new one, both have slightly different tints, both have unevenly tinted screens, You can definetly tell the difference in the grey menu bars.
The new one has darker blacks but they are being crushed when I bring up a brightness test pattern. If I bring up a photo with black in it you can tell a difference in the photos.
Pic is with max brightness true tone off

Left one looks better to me but it's not perfect

That’s the first one that has less black crush, and overall I think it’s more uniform but the colours arn’t as vivid and a little more dull. I’m not sure what one is more accurate.

About to change my uneven 8 for a plus... bet you anything it’s another dodgy screen!

Honestly, I was looking at the display models in the Apple store and every single on had evenness issues, some worse than others, but they all had noticeable issues. If you’re ocd about this like us in this thread, you will just have to live with it I think.

I should add that I went through many MacBooks with the same uneven displays. I never did get a good one, but after a few weeks of stopping obsessing over it I stopped noticing and it didn’t even pop into my mind until this phone issue.

I feel like this will be the same thing, bug me for a while and I’ll eventually forget about it.

Which one is the new one? I hope it’s the left one because the right one looks horrible, like the bottom right half of the screen is much darker, unless that’s just how the photo turned out.

Crazy. Surely their screen tolerances are higher than this. This is the 4th generation of these sized LCD panels that Apple has been using and they are still having uniformity issues? What gives? I doubt it is an LCD thing as all of my iPhones prior to the 6 series all had perfect screens. Even my SE that I am typing on now has no uniformity issues. Strange.

I had no issues with my 6 Plus I had for 3 years, either.

The right one is the new one. Left is a carrier phone and right is bought from Apple Store. I’m sending it back to the store and my carrier is currently shipping me another. I’ll choose between the left and the new one from the carrier. I’m not going to try a 4th phone.

Every single iPhone I've own since 4S has had uniformity issues. Besides, the ones prior to the 6 series had terrible interlacing lines on the screen.
My current 6S has one of the best screens I've ever seen and still not absolutely perfect by no means.

I'm on my 4th replacement, and every single one had this issue to some degree. I'll be keeping this one, darker area is not that prominent as it was on previous units, and i'm also tired of going back to Apple store and getting more replacements, especially since it's near impossible to get a perfect one. I had a same issue with 6 and 6s, and it looks like that we're gonna have another screen lottery with 8. Premium products should be more premium then this.

I have found the best way to show uneven tint is to take a picture of an all black screen in a dark room. It megnifies the issue so you can really see where the screen is uneven.

Here are my last 3 phones. This is what I am seeing in real world settings, obviously more faintly on a white screen. Phone 1 and 3 haave a red tint on the left side. Note phone 3 I put the protective film back on cause I was sending back. Phone 2 was the worst in all regards with a different tint in all 4 corners. It also had sort of dark lines along he edge on a white screen as well and had bad backlight bleed at the bottom that shows up.

Here is my wife’s SE. it’s much better than all of the 8+ imo. I would take that screen all day.

Here is my MacBook Pro Retina. It drove me crazy and went through a bunch of exchanges but after a while i stopped focusing on the issue I did not notice it anymore. I am hoping this is the same case with the phone. I can’t keep making exchanges for the 1 in a million shot I get a good one. I’m am going to stick with the phone in the first picture
