Obviously never used a Pixel or just a fanboy.

Not a fanboy. Have used many Android phones since the beginning and even a few Window phones and BB phones thrown into the mix. My first phone was pre-Android a Motorola 3W “bag” phone. I’m way familiar with Android. :p

Just recently (3 months ago) switched to Apple and the difference (for me and how I use my gear) is like night and day. When I pick up an Android phone now it feels so pieced together (the OS not the physical Phone). Apps also. Oh wait. It is. Hehe.

All my Apple gear simply works, works perfectly (for my use and what I want) right out of the box. The intergration between my iPhone, iPad and the iMac is just insane.

Some people may be experiencing some relatively minor problems from 11, but I’m sure it’ll get worked out. Android always took forever it seemed to fix upgrade problems.

Yes I've noticed frame drops. Also noticed when closing a folder that right at the end of the animation, the screen or fine details (like the white text under each app name) flickers a little. I think it has to do with the blur and depth effect as when I turn reduce motion on it doesn't happen. There is a thread on this around here too. Only noticeable if you're trying to see it kind of thing. I'm also work in motion graphics so animations and motion related things I pick up on.

One thing I’d like to toss out is that I updated to the 11.1 beta on Monday and have not seen the stuttery animations on unlock issue since then. I was getting that problem 1-2x per day under 11.0.x so I’m thinking Apple may have fixed the issue in 11.1.

I don't get how Apple could let something like this happen. They control the hardware and the software. They produce the fastest and most efficient chips on the market, by a very wide margin. How in this day and age, when these phones are so powerful, can there be any semblances of lag, delays or hiccups? Completely ridiculous.

Unless we're just imagining this? Some sort of placebo effect?

Hi,
I just picked up a 256GB iPhone 8 unlocked at the Apple Store here. Running 11.0.3. Set up as new. Lags while scrolling in just about every settings page, especially the cellular page. I noticed every display iPhone 8/8+ in the store doing it too but I thought/hoped it was because they were display phones. I'm taking mine back and sitting it out. No sense paying $900 for a phone with the "fastest" chipset in the world only to lag like an abused 2007 device...No thanks. Get your act together Apple!!!

I am disappointed in the way apple handled IOS 11. Iphone 8 with its beastly processor should not look this weak. Lags on 3d touch, RAM management issue where apps don't stay open in the background, some stutters when scrolling through the UI, making it seem like I am using an android phone. This is not acceptable. If Steve Jobs was alive, he would not stand for this either. Quality checks have gone down the toilet with every new update to the OS. I want my buttery smooth performance back. This is why I always stuck with the iphone.

I have a work issue Note 8.....ZERO and I mean zero lag anywhere. I don't like the Note 8 mainly because I find all Android OS confusing and cluttered but back to the iPhone 8 lag vs the Note 8. Sure, maybe benchmarks say the iPhone 8 is far faster than the Note 8 but in "seat of the pants" real world feeling scrolling, opening/closing apps and home/lock screens the Note 8 BLOWS the iPhone 8 away.

Any owners of the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus notice occasional stutters in the animations when going home, opening the task switcher, control center etc? It's random and doesn't last very long.

Yes its common problem and i guess its because of IOS 11, my current one is doing the same, the ones i returned was also doing it.

anyone notice an improvement with 11.0.2?

No improvement even on 11.0.3, try 3D and you will see even that animation stutters. Youtubers posted that issue.

Your issue there could be simply down to indexing. Once you start a brand new device it needs some time to index everything.

I get a lot of stutter on my iphone 8 (not a Plus). iOS 11 is just sloppy.

Apple is pushing software updates fast, i am sure they are aware of it. I guess they will try to fix lag issue by the release of X so ppl has best experience with X. Ppl must have super high expectations from X.

Simple, Apple essentially has 3 different versions of iOS 11. One for iPad, One for legacy iPhones, and one for the iPhone x. All three versions have different feature sets in addition to looking and operating differently.

It doesn' matter if you have control of hardware and software of you fragment said hardware and software like Apple has managed to.

Came here because of the same reason. My iPhone 8 Plus has these stuttering animations from time to other - while my girlfriend says she haven't experienced this at all on her regular iPhone 8.

Seems odd that it's such hit-and-miss. :-(

Yes, same here on an iPad Pro 9.7. iOS11 takes ages to boot (compared to iOS 10), stutters like crazy. Not impressed.

I've experienced at least 4-5 different types of terrible stutters and hick ups, just relating to animations alone. This is when using the app switcher, and closing/opening apps, and even when just swiping between pages. Specifically last night I opened the app store, had 3 apps to update (hit update all), opened multi tasking to kill the app store (it updates in the background), and then I had 3-4 seconds of stuttering lag when I was just swiping between home pages, before it went back to normal.

Worst iOS ever. Still can't believe this is the final release. That's just one example, but I've seen similar issues probably 12-14 times since I bought the iPhone 8 now.

I have an iPhone 5 that is still jail broken running 6.1 and runs so much smoother than my 8+ ! I have always been told practice makes perfect but it just doesn’t apply with Apple with every new software upgrade!

Does True Tone take that much GPU/CPU? I can't imagine this has a huge affect on battery life does it?
I hope not. I hope this is a bug. My 8+ is running 11.0.3. Maybe 11.1 beta 3 fix this?
I was using 11.0.3 on a 7 and it was smooth I was really disapointed with the stutterring. I mainly use iOS specificaly for its smoothness.

This has happened to me as well but I just don’t care about occasional stutters much. Hell I was hanging on to the 6 until now. As long as the device does what I want it to do without issues, I can’t be bothered anymore.

More power to you. I personally don't like poor optimization, and when buying a budget phone I can understand and tolerate (because mentally I'm buying for other reasons), or if I am upgrading the software beyond a version that the phone came with (again, the burden is on me here). However I usually buy an iPhone for the lag-free, and stutter free software experience, so it does bother me quite a bit.

Yessir, 8+ here and running ios 11.1 beta 5. Definitely better experience than the 11.0.3 which was a laggy mess but still getting random stutter when unlocking or swiping on the screen :(

I used S8+ and Note 8 and I believe they are all lagging (Launcher, Multitasking menu, Chrome, Facebook app). Android have improved significantly but Samsung does not optimize their software well. Pixel devices are smooth but their battery is quite poor.

Just an update on my own post and the progress of ios 11 :|

Running 11.2 beta 1 now on my 8+. Still getting a bit of animation micro stutter when unlocking after leaving it in sleep mode for more than 10 minutes. The actual unlock animation feels clunky.

Tried setting up as new which improves things a bit, but the lack of iCloud iMessage for now makes it hard to start fresh.

Bottom line - still running it with motion disabled.
