I'll decide what the best use of my money is, thanks!

of course, you made it you spent it, im just saying at least "KNOW" what your options are before spending it. theres no harm in reasearching before you buy. you dont just go out and drop $40K or $60K on a vehicle based on brandname and looks do you? well some people do... bad example..

I want a mini-van full of features, should I buy a mini-van claiming to be a mini-van or a Ferrari claiming to be a mini-van?

this minivan is claming to be a ferrari, "ESPACE F1" lol j/k

although i think it can waste a 550 but not the enzo

Really people? Does anyone need to tell you to not feed the Trolls?

trolling is "OMG WTF BBQ iphone sux0rs, apple should diex0rs"

im not trolling, im providing alot of detail as to why the iphone isnt a decent purcahse. if you look in the other thread i have the longest post full of facts and points about the lack of functionality and features. its just not worth $600 + 2yr.

alright bro. thats cool. I mean, i know how much use-time you've got with the iphone and all... make sure to direct everyones purchases without ever using the device ;). Nothing you say can prove the iPhone wont be worth it- until you've used one. Hardware:Software integration is the most important thing in any electronic gadget... and since you haven't used it, you wouldn't iKnow ;)
Thaks tho for the input

 :apple:

One day, you will use one and say to yourself, "WTF was I thinking?"

Continuing with the car analogy, it's like calling some luxury sedan more desirable than a Ferrari because it has navigation and dual zone climate control  You're totally missing the point of why people are enamored with this thing.

400 charges is two to three years of battery life - not too bad I'd say.... (if you charge your phone every two-three days)

• No editor for Word -- Software updatable or web based.
• No editor for Excel -- Software updatable or web based.
• No editor for Power Point -- Software updatable or web based.
• No editor for PDF -- Software updatable or web based... how many phones have this anyway?
• No GPS -- Triangulation possible.
• No GPS Support in google maps? (the article more or less implied it) -- Software update if triangulation is up-to-par.
• Rated battery life under-par (not a real surprise considering the MBPs rating) -- I have very good battery life on my MBP and my iPhone
• No expandable memory (we knew this already, but if a chip goes bad, all your data is gone and you are screwed because you have to send it back to apple and you will have no phone) -- So.. if your CDMA Chocolate goes bad, how exactly is it you flip to your backup phone without a GSM SIM?
Memory... most phones DON'T, and if they do, there is a maximum size on miniSDs that you're going to find.

• No Instant messaging (at all) -- Sure, not natively. Meebo works BEAUTIFULLY. There are also several javascript alternatives to Meebo. (Meebo's the best I've tried out of all of them)
• No Voice dialing (even the 4 yr old nokia 3390 had this) -- Simple software upgrade to stop your b****ing... this is 1.0 software, remember that.

• Cannot install 3rd party programs (you lose so much functionality if its locked down) -- Not yet, anyway. Give it a few weeks at tops and it will be cracked if not an SDK released. Besides, Safari doesn't work too bad for apps.
• Browser cant do flash -- Yet. It seems to have an old, defunct version of Flash built in. (You can briefly see flash embeds load, before the page is entirely loaded)
• Cant do Java Applets -- Why would anyone want to? Software update can fix this pretty easily.
• No MMS (cant send rich emails to your friends phones since they don’t support it) -- Online services can fix this. Plus, this is just a SOFTWARE UPDATE.
• No Camera options for high speed shutter (all your photos will be blurry) -- How many cameras have this?
• No LED light (night shots will be crap) -- Go back to Verizon, punk. LED'd cameras take very poor pics anyway. Hate to say it. Fight me all you want, I've never seen a good picture taken via LED whitelight.
• No video capture (kinda though that but this proves it, also means you cant receive 3gp files from your friends because the iPhone cant decode it, it can only do h264) -- Software updates, jesus.
• None replaceable battery (you will be screwed if you are in the middle of no where with a non replaceable battery) -- iPod classic, meh, what can you say.
• No 3G or 3.5G radio at all, stuck with 2 generation old EDGE (2.75G) -- 3G is barely implemented everywhere in the USA (where this phone is released), not only that, the 2G is actually very nice speeds in some areas.
• Slow browser, apparently the safari browser requires additional time to load a page because it may need to process the page before displaying it. Most likely because of the zoom feature, opera mini needs to do this as well but not opera mobile. We don’t know what the CPU is in the iphone however other pda phones that do not process the page appear to be faster -- Basically, a moot argument, you have NO idea what you're talking about. The browser loads just fine.

EDIT: http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/06/26/iphone-facts-from-the-first-reviews/

• No Copy and Paste (that really sucks for website addresses you want to send to people) -- Can easily be implemented. Plus, you can share "notes" via email etc.
• Loss of space (700 MB is almost 1G of space missing from 4 or 8, that’s ¼ space GONE) -- Yeah, it blows. Nothing else you can do about it.
• No A2DP (what a waste of Bluetooth 2.0+EDR) -- This can't be updated via software?
• No personal RING TONE SUPPORT!!!! (the ones built in fracking BLOW in the demo, why cant you use your own itunes BOUGHT songs?) -- This WILL be updated via software. No official word on it. But, come on, this is APPLE. You can't expect them to not. Plus, in early snapshots of itunes 7.3, there was a "ringtones" tab... no word as to why it was removed.
• Around 400 charges and the phone’s battery is poof, but you cannot replace it, you lose it for a couple days if not weeks to get it replaced costing you an arm and a leg with shipping parts and labor -- Lol. You obviously can't read the apple site very well.

According to the Batteries page, that many cycles is how many cycles you are GUARANTEED before ANY sort of SLIGHT degrading is noticeable. Read the site, enough said.

-------------- Just had to register to shoot some naysayer's argument down ;)

Apple didn't do too bad for V1.0 software.

--Switch.

-------------- Just had to register to shoot some naysayer's argument down ;)

You sure seem to know a lot about the upcoming software updates.

Personally, I'd be gobsmacked if any of the things you mentioned (besides ringtones and possibly flash) are actually fixed in updates from Apple.

My hope's with the hackers these days.

By the way, 3G's pretty widely deployed in the US, at least in places where most people (not livestock) live - see http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer/popUp_3g.html for the current footprint. Apple's publicly-stated reason for not including HSDPA is simply that the chipsets aren't sufficiently integrated (i.e. they take too much space and power) compared to EDGE. I'm sure they would have put in 3G if it didn't mean a big compromise in battery life and form factor - making apologies for them based on "2G's good enough and 3G's not deployed yet" just makes you look like an uninformed fanboy.

No, they are all speculation. But, a company such as Apple couldn't let such simple things hinder a great product. They have released software updates for iPod that have made it much better. (Letter-by-letter scrolling, etc.) You can only expect the same for the iPhone.

Well, I guess "widely deployed" is all in how you look at it, but the fact that AT&T won't even show their 3G coverage on their coverage map unless you're zoomed in several levels (i.e. you can't visually see their nationwide 3G coverage) should tell you how proud their marketing team isn't of how widely it's deployed. :D

Agreed. Safari does better than Pocket IE... Opera Mini uses servers that WARN you that HTTPS isn't secure (because Opera acts as a man in the middle... and you HAVE to trust them with any passwords/etc you intend to use with the browser)... And MiniMoz is brand spakin' new, so I am not sure the full capabilities yet.

Of the ones I have tried, even on EDGE, Safari wins in terms of rendering speed and interactivity.

I would like to point out that while no copy/paste is a slight disappointment, the point made by the OP (that you can't share website addresses easily/etc) isn't true, Safari includes a 'share' button for this. I have only really missed copy/paste if I wanted to re-arrange notes.

You get 2-3 days out of a fully charged battery? Maybe if you just use it for phone calls. But not if you're using the ipod, wifi, bluetooth or edge. I'm getting about 1 - 1/2 days with heavy usage. That means in a little over a year I'm going to need a new battery.

You need to understand, though, that many cycles is until the battery BEGINS to degrade. Not when it fails on you. You also need to understand that storing the battery at different charge levels ages batteries differently.

SMS app isn't smart enough to know when you are getting texted an address. So say an attractive person of the opposite sex (or same if that floats your boat) SMS's you their address (for whatever reaon), not only could you not get that info into your contact list, but you couldn't even get it in Google Maps to use either.

Shoot I asked my friends for their addresses so I could fill out my contacts, but I had to manually put it in there was no copy paste.

While copy/paste would make this easier, I think it would make it even nicer if apps could linkify addresses (this isn't a problem in just SMS) to turn into a contact or bring it up in Google Maps. Copy/Paste can be troublesome if you can do the task with a couple taps instead, IMO.

I think apple left the video out because they didn't want a crappy feature...like I said, I have yet to see a phone record quality, watchable video.

I thought Sadam's execution was great quality , maybe it wouldve looked better on youtube through h264.

meh. the iPhone does everything i need it to perfectly! if you don't like it, don't buy it! apple is going for 1%, not 100% ;)

"No LED light (night shots will be crap)"

I have had about 5 or 6 phones all with LED "flashes" they don't do crap anyway. Get over it, camera phones do poorly in low light. The only thing a LED flash is good for is to act as a flashlight.
