What is the update with your 3.0 device?

In previous OS forms, I only had to type ###-#### in as my phone number for it to bring up who I was trying to call. Now, in 3.0, it only brings up who it is I'm calling if I type #-###-###-####.

Annoying.

Not sure if others have picked up on this...
It doesn't happen everytime... but sometimes when I'm listening to the iPod and the iPhone goes to sleep, when I wake it to change the track for example, the controls and full song details show up at the top along with the slide to unlock at the bottom... this allows me to change tunes without actually unlocking the device. Odd. I'll try to get a screenshot next time it happens.

My bad... it's not a bug... it seems to be a new feature - I don't remember this on my first gen iPod touch running 2.0... perhaps I just didn't notice. When waking from sleep, double clicking the home button brings up the iPod control. See screen shot.

Bug (?) with Favorite screen double click

If you go to your Favorites screen and click the right arrow on one of your favorite numbers (i.e.: to choose a alternate number), you cannot double click to get back to the main favorite screen. You have to click the left "Favorite" button at the top of the screen.

This is new to 3.0.

Problem with Calendar Settings

I am using OS 3.0 and i cannot enter the Calendar Settings. I touch Settings and then Mail, Contacts, Calendars and two things happen:
  • I have two mail accounts created which are displayed correctly but following appear two empty accounts which are displayed incorrectly on the screen
  • When I scroll down to look for Calendar settings it does not go further than the Always Bcc Myself option and if i try to scroll futher down, it goes back to the home screen
Would appreciate to know if someone can help me with this or it is another bug in the 3.0 version

Thanks and regards

That's been a not-so-documented feature since 1.1ish. You can also change the behavior of double-clicking the home button while it's awake in Settings -> General -> Home

Sounds like your mail sync settings and/or signature may have something in it causing the settings app to crash. Back up your phone by syncing, and then try this on the phone: Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings

If that doesn't fix it, you may have to fiddle around with the Info tab in iTunes to try replacing the data on the phone, or as a last resort, restore the phone as a new device (in case the backup is somehow corrupted)

Thanks for all the replies. I apologize that I could not post anything as I was not feeling well the past few days. However, I will try to read all of the posts and update everything tomorrow. Once again, I am sorry, but will try tomorrow. Thank you for your patience.

UPDATE: I am currently updating everything. please stay tuned.

UPDATE 2: I am finished updating everything. Feel free to read the OP and all of the posts made. Thanks for your patience!

I have updated the original post with OS 3.1 information. It seems as though there will be no 3.0.1 update. This is because there have been bug fixes in the beta 2 release. Stay tuned for release information.

PLEASE NOTE: If the bug will be fixed in 3.1, it will be removed from the OP and the new bugs/existing bugs will be kept or added. Thank You.

please help

Turning off my iPod takes an unusually long time and when i turn it on it takes a long time and after the apple logo is displayed for a while it goes to a black screen and then the lock screen instead of the home screen. How do i fix this?! please help. also i noticed that the battery is worse now in OS 3.0 and the wifi seems to be worse also (if that is even possible?)

These are all discussed in the original post. Please read it before posting. For your problems, please see this:

"12. Some users have reported that when turning their devices off or on, there is a black screen for a few seconds before the lock screen is shown.
NO RESOLUTION. BUG"

"14. Some users have reported that instead of going straight to the home screen after restarting, the device will go to the lock screen.
NO RESOLUTION. UNKNOWN IF THIS IS A BUG OR NOT"

"8. Issues with Wi-Fi (non specific go under this number). Specific Issues with Wi-Fi:
8a. Upon entering Safari, the Wi-Fi icon disappears and the device says "not connected". Then the Wi-Fi icon re-appears and it connects to the page that was initially entered. The same thing has been noted in the App Store.
NO RESOLUTION. BUG

8b. Some users have reported that after turning their device on after sleep, they are forced to manually re-connect to the wireless network they were initially connected to. This is regardless if "ASK TO JOIN NETWORKS" is enabled or not and if it is a preferred network or not.
NO RESOLUTION. BUG

8c. Some users have reported that when putting something in front of the Wi-Fi card on an iPod touch, the wireless signal decreases significantly
NO RESOLUTION. BUG"

3.0 keeps breaking my vvm even tho i have no hacks

Please try a restore as a new device.

UPDATE: If you would like to see a new section called "What People Want in Future Releases" in the original post, please PM me with what you want to see in future OS releases of 3.0

Update to everything about this thread and information.

It has now been a month and a few days with OS 3.0. This has been a wonderful update to some people and horrible to others. However, 3.1 should be released in the next few weeks/days. It should fix many problems that people have been posting in this thread. It will also be adding a few useful features. For more information on OS 3.1, please view the original post.

Once, OS 3.1 will be released, the problems that will be fixed in 3.1 will be removed. The ones that are not fixed will stay and new problems will be added.
Once OS 3.1 will be released, I will be assuming that you update to 3.1, so the thread will say: "iPhone and iPod touch OS 3.1 Bugs and Questions". So, if you do not have OS 3.1 when it is released, please do not post in this thread.

Thank You all for posting, reading and making this thread very successful.

30. When entering Spotlight Search, the first time you enter it, it is slow.
That, and it freezes not fully open (see attachment). Once you start typing, it becomes normal.

Does anyone have an issue with Contacts.app in landscape mode? On mine, it shows every other letter (on the side) as a dot. Anyone too?
I doubt this is a bug, it must be that way so it looks cleaner as 26 letters down the side would be tiny and squished together.

Does this happen to anyone? (see photo) I've got an iPhone 3GS
This has happened a number of times. Also, sometimes when I wake the iPhone from sleep the home screen is all black with no icons. Software bug or problem with the iPhone?

26. Some users have reported that Safari no longer distinguishes between different media files. For example, if you try to play/download an MP3 file, Safari tries to play/download the file as a movie. Safari will then crash.
NO RESOLUTION. BUG.

12. Is this a bug? My computer has a brief black screen everytime it comes on...
14. Definitely not a bug, seems more like a feature...you can turn it on and stick it in your pocket, without worrying about your leg pressing buttons...whereas if you want to use it immediately, unlocking takes all of .5 seconds

..not sure, but on 2.x, if you ha a password on your lockscreen did it go to the home page when turned on? If so...someone could just restart the phone to get past the lockscreen...Now they cannot

26. I'm pretty sure Safari has always called all media files movies, since 1.0, when I play an audio file in Safari it refers to it as "movie" though it's never crashed for me

This is a software bug. Please follow a similar issue, with the number 7.

12. Yes. It was never like that in previous OS'.
14. I also did not think this was a bug, but a user reported it. I will keep it on the list until 3.1 is released. If it is the same thing, it will be removed (as with all the other bugs that still exist and are possibly not bugs).
26. Same thing as above.

This has happened to me more than twice now. I'll try to explain as good as I can.

I have a couple contacts that also bear an e-mail address field. If I answer their call my phone will vibrate in the background, basically it goes and downloads e-mail, even though I DO NOT use the fetch option nor have I ever.

It's sort of goofy, I though it was a goof at first since I had just fully charged my phone, but then it kept happening whenever I answered calls from certain contacts.

Anyone with same exp. ?

I can now say that that is a bug with 3.0 and hopefully will be fixed with 3.0. If you could, please check out either #7 on the bug list OR try a restore as a new device in iTunes. Please follow the tutorial on the OP on how to restore as a new device in iTunes if you are unsure.

Have you tried a restore as a new device? Please follow the tutorial on the OP on how to restore as a new device in iTunes if you are unsure.

I'm not intentioned to restore, it happened just a couple of times, I'll do it when 3.1 comes out. I feel too lazy and the bug is not bugging me too much. When it happened, I just had to put it to sleep and turn the device back on, this fixed it.

This problem has happened to me a few times. I've done a restore and it still happens... turning the device off and on or putting it to sleep generally fixes it.
