I wonder how many people use verizon vs att vs tmobile vs sprint. Lets see some numbers people. who is really the BEST!

I have a 3Gs iPhone for personal use, a work-provided blackberry on T-Mobile, and a Verizon "mifi".

AT&T has the absolute worst data coverage in the areas I travel (ND, MN, WI, IL), T-Mobile is a close second, and the Verizon card seems to get great speeds almost everywhere.

If it wasn't for the fact that I use my iPhone almost exclusively as a mobile browser around the house on wifi, I would've dumped it long ago. (I really should just dump it for a touch...and use it with my mifi when I am away from home. :)

If the iPhone goes to Verizon, Apple is going to have to explain to all the VZW iPhone customers why their iPhone can't do voice and data at the same time like seen in the commercials.

They could say it's just like the first iPhone. Or any iPhone outside of ATT 3G coverage. But perhaps they could be more creative:

One interesting thing about Verizon's landline side is that they've turned around and are embracing the traditional carrier devil: VoIP. Their Hub home phone was an attempt at supporting VoIP, and they've said they expect _all_ their communications to be VoIP based via FiOS by the end of the decade, if not sooner.

Verizon Wireless could pull a similar trick on a custom iPhone: switch into VoIP mode if you wish to talk and use data at the same time.

I've tried it using Skype on a WM CDMA phone. The VoIP worked very well, including incoming rings, and you can surf the web or use Google maps at the same time. (It actually worked too well... Pandora kept streaming in the background - ooops! - and I had to go to its window and turn it off)

Just a possibility.

I saw an ad on tv for a Fender Iphone (Eric Clapton in the ad) on Verizon. Did anyone else see it?

In December, the company updated specifications for wireless devices that will run on its LTE 4G (Long Term Evolution, fourth generation) network, which ultimately will connect a full range of electronics and machines, and enable a new class of services, such as online gaming, media sharing and video entertainment. Verizon Wireless plans to launch its 4G network in 25 to 30 markets in 2010 and cover virtually all of its current nationwide 3G footprint by the end of 2013.

Anyone honestly think that Apple is going to wait until 2013 to put out an iPhone on VZW? Those of you that think Apple is going to wait until the entire map is covered are nuts.

EDIT: Also, this means that there will be a CDMA chip inside the phone for service to fall back on when not in a LTE covered area.

Well, it is true that Apple doesn't wait for optimal conditions.

After all, they went with ATT knowing that their map was nowhere near covered in 3G, especially at the beginning.

Apple also gave the first iPhone to the UK, even though there was only about 20% EDGE coverage there. (It was mostly 3G)
