tower on the building

in the building i work in, on the inside in my office (no windows) I get -74, when I go to to the window down in the hall way from where I could see the tower on the hill i get 105, i wonder if my building has an antena on top?

I'm fluxuating between -95 and -99 on 3G. I'm at work, which is about a half hour outside Philadelphia.

-73 at the office, not bad considering I'm in a pretty thick building. Will try later from home...oh and 5 bars

Funny story... The other day I was in the Apple Store having a Genius look at my MBA and while I was there I had him look at my 3G because it had been dropping calls. I've had it in field test mode for about 3 months or so now and really I forgot all about it. Well he takes a look at my iPhone and is completely confused. At first he thinks I've jailbroken my iPhone, but their software isn't detecting any illegal software, so he asks me what's up with the numbers, and I go on to explain to him the whole field test mode thing and he thinks it's the coolest thing ever. After about 10 minutes of playing around with my phone and a little googling he gives me my iPhone back and says there's nothing wrong with it, but I thought it was funny, he was like a kid on Christmas when I showed him this trick. He was a good Genius though, I wish they were all like him.

-51 from the office in Santa Monica. Will try later from the apartment. -50 is the best huh? Wish I had some of this from home. Can't even send a text from inside.

A couple of things for those who want to know.
This is what is referred to as 'Channel.' How to convert this to see whether this is 1900 or 850:

______________________

850 Channels:
Channels 4357 - 4458
Divide channel number by 5 (i.e. 4384 = 876.8 MHz)

Channels 1007, 1012, 1032, 1037, 1062, 1087 (850):
Divide the channel number by 5 and add 670.1 (i.e. 1007 = 871.5 MHz)

1900 Channels:
Channels 9662 - 9938:
Divide channel number by 5 (9662 = 1932.4 MHz)

Channels 412, 437, 462, 487, 512, 537, 562, 587, 612, 637, 662, 687 (1900):
Divide the channel number by 5 and add 1850.1 (i.e. 412 = 1932.5 MHz)

Mine shows '287', which is not listed here... Any ideas?

-105 in Scottsdale, AZ on Edge. No 3G in my apartment and that is about 1 bar. -92 with two bars, it fluctuates just sitting on my desk.

If someone knows where a tower is -- stand next to it in Field Test mode and take a screenshot to post here. I'd love to see what kind of 'best case' numbers you can get!

-70 4-5 bars on Edge, no 3G yet here in athol,ma (come on att). Oh and to the guy above me, I went to the bottom of the "mountain" where the tower is and I got -46, prolly about 1/4 mile away from it.

No -50 is not the best. the guy that posted that earlier is wrong. I get -45 in my house. I live across the alley from a cell site.

i'll take a screenshot in a bit, as soon as i figure out why itunes/address book keeps erasing my contacts when all i want to do is copy from m iphone to mac!:mad:

Probably because you're not dialing the correct number. Dial *3001#12345#* with the asteriks as well.

You can also go to your iPhone search and type "field" and the app will show up.
