Ok so here is what I think is BAD about the iPhone. Yes the internet is VERY good on it, it is the best internet cell phone ever. But what about Highschoolers (and middle schoolers?) that get there hands on one... I can see it now, Highschoolers on myspace all day at school and maybe even using it durring tests to get the answers. I know I will buy an iPhone but I see this one flaw.

If the school wireless they can block access to the students, or only have the access in certain area's of the school.
Any high school that offers free, unfettered WiFi access with no proxy deserves whatever troubles they cause anyway. In any event, I seem to recall (at least back when I was in high school) that any sort of electronic device was technically verboten. Certainly during a test a teacher would be hard pressed to miss someone with a freaking iPhone out (considering how bright the screen is, and relatively large).
Have they relaxed cell phone rules for high schools nowadays? When I was there, they were banned. Then again, not too many people had them when I was in high school, and most of my high-school career was pre-9/11. I guess they must've relaxed the rules, since I guess every high schooler I know now has one.

The schools simply need to be more proactive and give teachers the authority to confiscate (until parents pick it up) cell phones that are used during class. For that matter, middle schoolers shouldn't even have cell phones to begin with, so I'd ban them all together.
This is the EXACT thing that nearly ALL students at my school have been doing since my freshman year. (or perhaps even earlier) The only difference is that the most common platform is the Sidekick (2 or 3). The iPhone would be no different than that. You're a little late, is what I'm saying, it's already happening.
My school has a confiscate until parents pick them up policy, but I don't think its a good system. The student should be able to pick up their phone, just because its not fair for the parents who have to have their afternoon screwed up just to pick up a phone.

I agree completely, my school is in a safe neighborhood, but some kids walk or take the bus home and if they are stupid enough to get caught and taken away [their phone], that could be trouble for them in a physical sense...

If you use your phone in places where you are allowed it, then there is no problem using a phone at lunch etc,and you'd never have to worry, but using it during a test, would warrant the confiscate until parents pick it up. Get the parents involved in the ehh well, Parental control I guess...
nowadays, teachers etc can't do as much anymore as they will either be (verbally) abused or sued the **** out of, it's starting to turn into that kind of society nowadays unfortunately, parents still have a little more authority , although that seems to change slowly too....
Where are the good old days where a slap on the wrist with a wooden ruler was still perfectly normal, and would instantly get everyones attention, and stop back talking etc instantly
Remember, the iPhone doesn't need WiFi to access the internet, so proxies won't help.
Kids that would get an iPhone would probably get a 30GB iPod and a nice phone, which could easily match the price of the iPhone. While the iPhone doesn't have the same capacity, most kids get the 30GB iPod just because its more expensive than the nano's and they want that.
As far as cell phone rules. My old school in NY if you where ven caught looking at the time(clocks aren't always functioning or to far in places like cafeteria) you'd get it taken away. During a test automatic zero and it's taken away. During statewide Regents exams, you get summer school. Now in Massachussets you can take it out whenever the teacher isn't teaching/test. Kids pop out their sidekciks and Helios all the time and go online.
Phone already have internet and not all schools have free unlocked Wi-Fi, my has it, but its locked up, and there is no way to get on.
However I plan to go on internet when I'm bored at school, but I doubt it will change the grand scheme of things

This isn't an iPhone flaw. This is a school flaw. This thread is kinda ridiculous.

I don't get the point of this thread...Apple shouldn't make the iPhone because high schoolers may play with it instead of paying attention? The iPhone isn't the first phone capable of using the internet. And if a student would rather use myspace than take notes, that's their own damn problem and they deserve the poor grade they'll get. I hardly see how this is Apple's problem and why it's considered a flaw. The iPhone has many flaws, and I'm not going to get into them because I've said them before, but this isn't one of them.
And to whoever said that high schools shouldn't be allowed to hold stuff until the parents pick it up, why not? If the school has rules that students can't have phones at school, and someone brings their phone to school, they're obviously in clear violation of the rules and deserve what's coming to them. If their parent works and can't come pick it up for another 2 weeks, then too bad, the student should've thought about that before breaking rules.
this isnt an issue, there are so many other ways in which kids cheat on test:
1. plain old looking over
2. writing on hands, arms, legs, purses, desk, "cheat sheets", clothing
3. stealing test
4. passing down test, grade to grade
5. in our school, as soon as someone takes a test the other kids here about it the period after-teachers make different versions, but i mean...they aren't that creative
6. THERE ARE PDAs, Blackberry's and Reg. Cell Phones, the iPhone would be the hardest thing to type with in your pocket due to the no buttons feature meaning that your hand would get lost to easily...

the bigger issue is iPhones becoming apples flagship product, CNN did an article about how teenangers and the iPhone, and we have already seen the effect of this, it is one thing for the iPod which apple has sold now over 100 million of to become a focus, but not the iPhone...

its been said before and i'll say it again...iPod= Razr(common high school phone) and 30gb iPod (common mp3 player) and some change...ya an iPod, iPhone and Razr would be excessive, but kids are spending more and more money...plus everyone that is in the market for cheap used iPods and Razrs should just be happier...

Wow your schools actually have wifi?
What's the need ? I could see it being used for networking a teachers machine but there's no reason for having it. Schools have computer labs, ethernet works fine for that. University is a whole other ball game though.
