Maybe you got lucky. Grab any WM user off the street and I am willing to bet most of them will curse the device to you. We have quite a number of these at work that have the same trouble.

Hell, my Treo 700p is just as unstable. No 3rd party software, and I have had it replaced 5 times now. This is not very uncommon.

Most phones in the market are churned out, the companies really don't care about stability or making a quality product. Lets face it, MS is not known for being interested in creating stable or secure products. They are only interested on how quick they can steal idea x, get it to market and increase their bottom line. That is it, cut and dry.

Acutally the 700P has been fixed, there was a MR update recentlt but then was dropped in favor of the 755p. But then again that phone was cursed from the start. I had a 650 and it was great phone and it never crashed on me and third party support actually wasnt bad.

And most of the people I know who hate WM is not because of of the software, but more because of the hardware, and the fact a BlackBerry is more attractive to them.

Mossburger knows the implications of having OSX under the hood and has chosen not to report it.

That's bad journalism!.

The article is just totally hardware orientated and it's an almost irrelevant part of the whole user experience...

This is exactly why all mobile devices suck - because they are about as brain aching to use as talking in binary...

The iphone will be full of sexy playfulness - Great Apps made 'apple easy'.

No other kit can do or say this. It's all in the s/w!...

and yes I am proudly biased ( towards great stuff)...

iPhone is hardware oriented! It ships with 12 applications and that's the software orientation of iPhone, not much to report there, really. In comparison every smartphone as thousands of applications available. So yeah, Walt should have reported this implication of having OSX under the hood.

'ipod with coverflow' on your phone counts as 'nothing much to report' ?

Your kidding right?

The GUI and the apps are everything - everything, and every one of them is class leading on a device of this kind.

The 'thousands of apps' on every other phone are no better than bad windows shareware apps.

Why are we even discussing WM phones here?

It's like a guy has a really fat, ugly and narcoleptic girlfriend with asthma problems and he is desperately trying to convince his buddies that instead of chatting up that cute skinny chick in the black dress and Armani glasses you should find a ugly chick, just like him.

"You know guys, those cute girls are all glitz and no substance, you know what I'm saying. It's what's on the inside that matters, all 200 pounds of it! My girlfriend might be ugly as sin, but she is a REALLY generous lover, I tell you, and she does this one thing with her tongue, forget it about it! Good luck getting that high class bitch to do that for you. Oh, and she is completely open to anything man, I mean anything. She has all these toys, and wow, she'll do anything you want with them. Ok, so she can be a little unstable with the mood swings and occasional STD's (she gets around), but you gotta take the good with the bad, huh, am I right or what?"

No dice bro, I still want that cute girl with the black framed glasses, you have fun with yours though.

And crash, and crash, and freeze up, and crash, and crash, and freeze up, etc....

I've been in more car crashes (2) than the amount of times my WM 5 has crashed.

And for everyone that says there's no comparison between WM and OS on iPhone. You're right. WM has a market share whether you like it or not and OS doesn't.

Also, for any one that thinks OSX is the perfect platform ever, start reading the 10.4.10 upgrade posts (and all the other upgrade posts). Yup, no problems ever. 100% non crashable, even by Apple themselves:rolleyes:

The iPhone is cool looking. Everyone agrees about that whether you're a hater or not. Whether you're going to buy it or not.

It's lacking in the technology field (software and hardare). Everyone should agree about that whether you're a fan or not, whether you're going to buy it or not. Do your own research before you buy, and don't let your irrational wants overpower your rationality. :)

EDIT: If you're still buying into the "Apple. It just works" slogan, and praising it and repeating it, one of two things has happened: Apple has completely brain washed you or you are oblivious to the fact that Apple is a company and will say anything to make you buy their products:)

Agreed, but again, I don't think it's going to matter.

I base that comment on the fact that iPods own the MP3 market, despite the fact that there have always been MP3 players with better "technology" (both hardware and/or software-wise).

But so far, nobody's been able to translate that better "technology" into a better overall user experience.

IMO, the iPhone, despite it's "lacking technology", could very well be a smach because from viewing the ads, it appears to hit the competition hard in several important day-to-day phone usage areas:

1 - the general UI that you use to move around the phone
2 - specifically, the phone UI
3 - the web browsing experience
4 - the multimedia player experience
5 - the syncing experience

If the iPhone delivers a better overall user experience by taking care of the basics (and so far, indications are that it will), I think it's going to sell well, regardless of the fact that there is competition out there with better "technology".

Actually a solid portion of the iPod sales are the good marketing(or lack there of marketing on the competition) Apple has and the fact they got a larger marketing budget. When was the last time you saw iRiver have a TV ad, or billboard ad in the United States? Naw they rather focus on Korea where their electronic dictionaries with audio and video support are popular. Sandisk for a while had ad and we saw how well that helped them, they were number 2 in the market. Many assume that Samsung and Toshiba don't have ads because they are the companies that supply the Flash HD and HD to Apple, so there is no need.

Also that better user experience may also depend on a users need. I personally have a Cowon A2 and I find the user experience very good. I love the fact that is UMS no software to use.

iPhone will be a hit because of the hype and good marketing. I know a few people who bought their iPod because of marketing and now regret it a little because it can't do what they want(built in fm radio and tuner, and video in the ipod Nano but why do video on such a small screen is beyond me).

If marketing is all it takes to get a solid portion of sales, then Microsoft had better start upping it's Windows Mobile ad budget.

I am part a DAP net community and it has been discuessed that part(could be small part or a large part) of Apples success is due to the fact they have the resources to market their products on TV and they can do it well. I have never seen a TV ad for any DAP/PMP device(except for MS and Sandisk but this one was more like a Rhapsody ad), I dont remeber if Creative had any ads when the first mp3 players came on the market. Part of the reason is due to the fact these companies are small and don't really have the cash for tv AD, and if they do print ads it is in more technology related magazines. I digress.

I guess MS market it, but it is not as a easy thing to market like Windows Vista or XP where all the hardware manufactures are know. Honestly how many average consumers know who HTC is or Dpod, Symbol or any of ther other manufactures of WM devices.

you mean HTC or...... HTC?

actaully quanta makes some WM5 devices but HTC makes 90%+, all treos and ipaqs are actaully ****** low end HTC's >> square screen lol.

people are somewhat ignorant when they buy things, especially americans and canadians (not saying all, just saying most), all they do is go to their local bestbuy and pick up what they have in store without actually SHOPPING around, whats funny is they all have access to the internet too. same internet connection i do yet i know what else is avalible. if you look around and do your research you will realise almost everything at best buy is over priced featureless garbage.
