It's too bad Apple didn't go with Sprint since their base unlimited data package is 15 bucks a month and you can get unlimited text for an additional 10 dollars on the new plans... Either way, hopefully AT&T will have some kind of introductory promotion for summer with cheaper rates (unlikely but we can still hope)

I doubt that Apple and ATT&T will be that stupid to turn people off with expensive plans like that. Seriousely, if I have to pay more than what I pay now monthly, I'm probably not going to get it. Otherwise, I'll definitely get it :D

Think of it this way, the early termination fee is said to be about 175$. So that is equal to about 2-3 monts of over 50$ montly cost. If it cost that much just pay the fee and think of it as 3 months of contract costs paid up front and then get a AT&T pay as you go sim and pop it in the iPhone.

I agree, I doubt Apple and AT&T will be that stupid to present expensive plans to people and try to deter them from the iPhone.

I have a feeling that if come Wednesday, the plans are announced, and they are ridiculously high, we will see a lot of reactions similar to those we see on Deal or No Deal when they open a big number case...

"Thats ok! Thats ok!" while clapping hands

:)

I'm really hoping for an all-in-one unlimited data, voice, and text plan for less than $50.

However, I am on a family plan, so I'd like to keep the $10 I pay for my line plus $5 for 200 texts. I really hope a data plan isn't required. But, if it is, then I probably won't get the iPhone if the data plan required is more than $40.

one of my buddies just got off the phone with the AT&T customer service line and they told him it'd be $39.99 for 450 minutes plus $59.99 for unlimited data. that is WAY too much, if you ask me.

unless they put together some sort of deal for iphone customers... it looks like the iphone won't be in my pocket for quite a while...

due to the monthly pricing... it looks like the iphone won't be in my pocket for quite a while...

Thats ALOT of money for unlimited data on a phone they are making us pay full price for.

no kidding... hopefully they come up with some sort of deal for the iphone customers. especially if they are switching from other providers.

After reading this thread i called AT&T they told me that no plans have been released yet at all, they said this week they will be posted!
hmmm...

hopefully the AT&T rep my friend talked to had no idea what they were talking about. sounds like that could be the case.

There is just no way its 59.99 for unlimited data... currently its 44.99 for the "PDA Personal Max plan with 1500 texts"

No way they can charge 15 dollars more for that, and its not even 3g!

It is billchase2 - no plans have been released whatsoever in regards to the iPhone, so anything you've heard from any AT&T reps is almost certainly untrue, because they themselves don't even have the figures yet to inform their customers. We'll find all the plan costs out this week.

slightly off topic

I am thinking about switching to ATT from Verizon for the iPhone. Does anyone see a problem with getting a free phone first as part of my two year contract and then buying an iPhone since it costs 499 or 599 regardless of the contract? I want the free phone so that I can switch the sim card into it and use it if I am doing something where I think the iPhone would be safer at home (if the sim card is user removable on the iPhone).

You can't get one phone and replace it with another without extending the contract (if you can even do that at all, given how new the first phone will be) or terminating it (and paying the fees).

Get multiple lines if it's that much of an issue for you.

it is said to be voice plan (>=$50)+data plan ($50), so its >$100/month.

I just have a hard time believing the data plan is going to be more expensive than what they are currently offering when the phone cost is completely covered by the customer, and the network is an inferior EDGE network. That would be a real shame.

the $50 i mentioned is with TAX., many ppl said it will be $40 without tax.

I think AT$T is going with expensive way, rather than low cost way. Im not sure if this shows AT$T of lacking the confidence in the magnitude of user base of iPhone.

That's a very common plan right now. Why would AT&T/Apple have a plan that is significantly less? The voice plan will almost definitely be the same as the current offererings and the data will probably end up being $40.

Because the phone is NOT subsidized by AT&T. One reason for the expensive plans and 2 year contracts is that you're paying for the phone (at least most of it) through the monthly payments.

Is it worth it?

I went into my AT&T store today and they told me the data plan would cost $40 or $50 / month.

I'm starting to have hesitations of getting this phone because of it's massive cost. I have two phones now with the rollover plan and that costs me about $75/mo. I don't know if I'm willing to start dropping $125/month on a cellphone in addition to the $500 - $600 for the phone.

My work just got me a blackberry and although it's no iPhone (or even close) it is free... Are you all OK with dropping this much on the iPhone?

Shoot no, I'm not gonna pay that much monthly for the iphone! Maybe $20 a month for data and $40 for voice. This phone is edge, not 3g and like has been said before, we are paying for the phone without subsidy which makes it $500 or $600 dollars and being forced into a 2 year contract!! They better make it cheap to use after taking all of our money up front! Sho-nuff!

I've decided I'm not going to pay over my current bill to use an iPhone. I have however looked at a lot of other phones and over my treo 650. I am going to have to save my pennies to get one. 600 bucks for a phone is going to be alot, however it is going to replace my ipod and my treo. I just hope that they put a bigger harddrive in the thing. 16GB to 30GB flash would be perfect and probably cause me to think about whipping out the credit cards.

I know there is no way in hades i'm going to go over what I currently by for a phone for my wifes phone, my data plan plus texting.
