The stores have no idea what the plans will be.

That said, if it's the same as their regular voice/data plans, I'll be fine with it.

I'll be ok with it, but still upset that I'm paying full cost for the phone, and being required to still pay full price for plans/contracts that are designed for people with subsidized phones to use.

I've made the decision that if I decide not to get the iPhone, I'll pick up a new MacBook to replace my aging Pismo instead. Even at twice the initial cost, the MacBook will be far cheaper in the long-run. Either way, next week will be fun.
You know... that's good. I think I'll have an exit strategy myself. Maybe I'll go on eBay and buy a new laptop or something. If the voice/unlimited data plan together end up costing more than $100, that is when the exit plan kicks in and all interest I have in the product will transform into one of admiration at a distance. That gizmo you play with on visits to the store every so often.

I'd be very happy if it could come in at $45-$55, but currently I'm on Nextel/Sprint paying $59 for a business plan with free incoming calls. It used to cost $69, but they took mercy on us I guess (trapping me into another obligatory year of service for the new plan pricing no less). AT&T Wireless has a lot riding on this. Andy Ihnatko on the Apple Phone Show remarked that bad plan pricing would be a dangerous road to go down, and I agree.

It's like a bad hand of poker that is going down hill quick. A sizeable group of people would just shout "Too rich for my blood!" and walk. As it stands, in terms of spectacle and media frenzy, this is quite probably one of the most memorable shows of marketing prowess ever seen. Apple will be making an undetermined number of special announcements in the next week for the iPhone. The "final act" will be on launch day, deemed "iDay" by AT&T. If their final trick is to offer business as usual pricing, this hole thing goes down the tubes faster than you can say "No HSDPA".
