I will be pissed if everything looks the same on the homescreen and all we can do is change the background. That could be a nice 3.2 update for the iPhone, but 4.0, no.

Fair enough. you got me on the background image :p
Thanks. Hyperbole was not required to make your point.

but you get my point though
I think I do.

and i bet you're going to be standing in line for this thing , arent you? :p
Probably just wait for Fedex to deliver it to my door. But as an iPhone app developer interested in testing the iPad-versions of my apps on an actual device, I have a whole different set of reasons to desire an iPad.

Oh really? You work for Apple? Or do you lead their programming teams?

No I don't work for Apple but I am a software developer for a large company and my small team is assigned to one application until the task is done. I work with other teams that work on different applications our company supports. It keeps people from having to switch environments all the time.

Of course. They wouldn't be where they are today if they only had one dev team.

I know they have more than one dev team... That's why I said it. I'm sure they probably have several on the iPhone OS! As the poster just below you mentioned, probably one for iPad dev, iTouch dev, etc... even more possible is that there are several teams dedicated to different apps within the iPhone that share members.

No it isn't.
Oh really? You work for Apple? Or do you lead their programming teams?
Of course. The next iPhone will be an A+ update.

Sheesh...

I don't know how they operate but I don't doubt that they are developing multiple instances of iPhone OS.

Is it just coincidence that the iTunes store went down for a lot of people this weekend and an update is possibly around the corner?

PS: is everyone in this thread really dense enough to believe they would only work on one OS at a time?

Well said.

There's no reason why they can't work on the iPhone OS 3.2 while they develop the iPad OS 1.0.

Oh wait... it's the same OS.

It kills me...

when someone b^tches to people for starting a thread. So what if they start a new thread on the same thing. If it annoys you so much that another one was started, then don't bother replying. That's what takes up so much of the thread. If no one responds to a thread, guess what...it dies

with the ipad specific 3.2 just released to developers (SDK form) I am a little unsure if we will see OS 4.0 any time soon.

Seems too much too quickly for developers to keep up with?

Thanks, moderators, for moving my post from a thread where it was relevant to one where it wasn't, way to go.

It only makes sense to me.

I am assuming that there actually is a chance that the iPad includes a camera and that they are going to announce it before pre-orders this Friday. That would mean that it would be announced tomorrow (Tuesday), Wednesday, or Thursday.

Knowing Apple lately, they probably wouldn't just slip that in, they would have some sort of press event to get the word out. But, a whole press event just for the inclusion of a camera? Unlikely....unless there was another announcement this due this month like, oh say, iPhone OS 4.0.

FYI- iPhone OS 2.0 announced Thursday, March 6 2008
iPhone OS 3.0 announced Tuesday, March 17 2009

Absolutely not, total fantasy. No camera in sight. 4.0 announcement in May.

With the optimisation of the A4 chip, presumably if they've scrapped the part that would link to a camera sensor, then there's no way it could get added at teh last minute.
It's like the Touch camera..

Well, it won't be March 16th. My fingers are crossed. Maybe it'll be the 18th. It was held on a Thursday during this week last year.

Oh wait... it's the same OS.
As Apple marketing would have you believe, and yes it is based on the same kernel, similar technologies, etc; but for the most part they are very different operating systems. Especially considering their differing user inputs. It really depends on what you consider an operating system to be.

But in my opinion, for them to be the same OS, it would have to be possible to copy/paste an iPhone's OS onto a Mac and have the Mac run as normal.
