Hmm, I'm thinking the iPad launch as something to do with this 4.0 announcement. This is the first time in a long time that Apple hasn't followed the iPhone trend. It all started with the 3.2 delay. We have still gotten OS 3.2. OS 2.2 was released in November; 3.0 announcement was in March. The trend has finally been broken. Maybe it'll be April 1st. This would be great promotion for the iPad.

As Apple marketing would have you believe, and yes it is based on the same kernel, similar technologies, etc; but for the most part they are very different operating systems. Especially considering their differing user inputs. It really depends on what you consider an operating system to be.

But in my opinion, for them to be the same OS, it would have to be possible to copy/paste an iPhone's OS onto a Mac and have the Mac run as normal.

Just a question, do you have any experience in software development?
