Came across this tonight at Best Buy in Iowa.
Probably old stock from 6 months ago when some non-credible rumors about SE2 were floating around.

Minimal risk to Speck. All they have to do is peel off the sticker if rumors don’t pan out.
Yup, that's exactly what I was thinking, hedging their bets that there would be an SE2.

I loved the SE's form factor, in fact I went back to the SE after owning the 6 for a year and a half. I then used the SE for over 2 years... but 5 months ago, I jumped into a pool by accident with the it and had to switch back to the 6. Since the latest iPhone announcement last month, I've given up on waiting for a compact iPhone and just resigned that I'll have to use two hands for most operations on all my future phones. I'm trying to make it easier by focusing on the positives of larger phones like the extra real estate to display stuff. I've honestly started growing more accustomed to the 6 this time around because I do appreciate the extra screen space after using the SE for 2 years.

Well, if the SE2 is in fact coming in March, my guess is they’ll call it the XE.

XE = whatever the R means in XR. But then, E.

o_OI'm really not following this. You think it will be called XE which would translate to '10 Edition' which makes no sense. How you're fitting the R into 'XE' is an absolute mystery to me. It's speculated that the R stands for retina, so you think it will be called RE--Retina Edition (assuming that's the r)? That doesn't make a lot of sense either.

It makes perfect sense given Apple's naming schemes. Just like almost any other letter of the alphabet would. :D

XRetina? Lol, no. That doesn’t make any sense either.

Or, just like nobody guessed what Apple was going to name the iPhone, like the XS and Max, I would say generally nobody has any idea what they will name the next iPhone SE, that is, _if_there even is a next iPhone SE.

Oh I agree- I didn't give it that moniker. It's been said that's what the R stands for. I guess no one could think of anything better. What do you think the r in Xr stands for?

Perhaps it stands for Retro, as in the XR has all those colors going on like the 5C.

Ok probably not but it’s fun to speculate. :D

I have no idea, but I know it’s not Retina ;). Maybe Apple just likes the way it sounds.

You’re making a mistake in looking for a name that means something, an acronym that can be translated into proper words. Even if such translations are possible, and with the XS and XR I highly doubt it, what really matters here is marketing. What the average customer understands is that the X stands for the edge-to-edge iphones, the new basic form factor. It is easy to understand for a customer that the XS, XR and XS Max are variants of this. Now, if we agree that the new SE, should there ever be one, have an edge-to-edge display and a notch, thus look like a smaller X, I think it’s not far fetched to speculate this phone will also be called X something. Now, if Apple would then also want to hint at the fact that this phone is at the same time the successor to the SE (which most people don’t think of as Special Edition, but as the small, cheap one), I think it would be a good marketing decision to call it the XE.

“What the "R" stands for in iPhone XR :I love cars and things that go fast, and R and S are both letters used to denote sport cars that are really extra special.” -Phil Schiller

Looks like I was right, it means nothing. Apple likes the way it sounds and has elevated meaning in another industry.

Quick follow up: This is a quote from the interview featured on the front page today:

Phil Schiller, gingerly gripping a cup of coffee across from me, said the letters Apple uses never stand for something specific.”

The Bolded is inaccurate in your post. Then Phil sure actually contradicted himself or the article you posted was misinterpreted, because Schiller also quoted that the iPhone SE stands for “Special Edition”, which he directly admitted in an interview on the phone launch three years back on March 23, 2016.
