Except the Pro name is just used for their better models at this point.
Which has nothing to do with the iPhone. Apple is never going to name the iPhone “Pro” after it. The numbering system is useful for now , ready they change it or not in the future, it’s possible. But the Pro moniker is the brought up every single year and debunked.
There’s not that much that’s “Pro” about the 13” MacBook Pro when it’s using a basic i5 and no dedicated GPU. However, it has many upgrades that make it a better model than a MacBook or an Air. The iPad Pro lost its major Pro feature (the pen), and all you get is a better display, camera, and better processor (which compared to the A11 isn’t as “Pro” as it was).
But all the above in your quote is a completely separate entity and product from the iPhone. They are nowhere near comparable in terms of performance and productivity, which are used for different tasks. It Doesn’t change the iPhone is a commodity that is upgraded annually and it’s core functionality is for notifications and phone calls. There is nothing Pro about a phone regardless of how much tech is incorporated.
The iPhone X follows these exact same guidelines. Better display, better camera, exclusive features and tech that the non-X model has. If the 13” Pro can be called a Pro for the same reason, an iPhone X can be an iPhone Pro.
Then Apple doesn’t share your views here. Because if they did, I think they were they would have moved on to some different terminology for the iPhone. I have said it before, the numbering scheme for the iPhone is important, because it values the older model iPhones from the newer models with the highest number. I can’t see what they will do for the future, but it certainly isn’t going to be a “Pro” for a phone evidently.
They stopped numbers on the iPad, and now it’s just iPad and iPad Pro. Notice the 2nd gen iPad Pro isn’t iPad Pro 2. In fact, the iPhone is the ONLY line now using numbers. If this was a problem, why isn’t it the iPad 7? Not to mention, what happens when we get to 2019. Are there two iPhone 10s? What if the X successor is iPhone 11? In 2020 will there be two iPhone 11s? Will they just start skipping numbers? iPhone 14 sounds pretty ugly too. It’s confusing to keep using numbers.
I Think your conflating again, because the iPad doesn’t have any relation to the iPhone and Apple clearly has different terminology for each product, from the MacBook, to the iPad, Apple Watch, etc.
My Point is, every year it’s brought up the iPhone should be named “Edition” or “Pro”, when Apple is not going to do that. I think the numbering scheme will continue until they develop some form of other a secondary title. Also , Some of the questions you’re asking me, clearly I don’t have the answers either, but I also think some of the points you’re making about the term Pro have been not a part of the iPhone for said reasons.
If the They never had this problem with the iPod lines, because they just called each one iPod. Not iPod 2, 3, 4, etc. even the iPod Touch line was just iPod Touch, not iPod Touch 2,3,4,5
I’m not sure why you feel the need to compare every product to the iPhone with a MacBook, iPod or iPad. Obviously they’re all different and they’re treated differently. Not to mention, the iPod is basically a dead product to the consumer anyways. I think its obvious that the iPhone doesn’t share the same course of action that the other products In Apples line up.
So using the term mini for an iPhone that’s designed for customers who want a mini iPhone is confusing
Because it doesn’t make sense. Why would Apple use the iPhone SE as a ‘mini’. When he iPad mini is just a smaller form of the iPad, when the iPhone SE is a completely separate device from the other iPhone models. I’m not following your analogy here and I don’t think it makes much sense.
but the term “Special Edition”-which is usually used for a limited/one-off device, like you pointed out-isn’t confusing?
Does The consumer really care what SE stands for? Anyways, the point is “Special Edition” was clarified by Phil Schiller, which obviously means it could be a one time offering for that specific model iPhone. It doesn’t have to follow suit like the other iPhone models doing with the numbering scheme for that purpose alone.
