I'm still sure that Apple will release an SE2.

Somewhere around when they release an updated Mac Pro and an updated iPod Touch 7 :).

Yup as soon as everyone has completely given up all hope and already purchased a larger iPhone, THEN Apple will release an SE2 to get people to "upgrade" again.

No honestly at this point I think Apple will want to get all devices on the same aspect ratio and larger size. I've heard from a few developers that it's kind of annoying to design an app/UI which works on the iPhone XS Max, but also the iPhone SE. If we ever do get an updated small iPhone I think it will be something akin to an iPhone XR Mini at around a 5.0-5.5" screen size. I don't think we'll ever see a <5.0" iPhone again after the iPhone 8 goes away.

You could pick up a 7 or 8 and maybe ease into a larger size gradually. I have a 7 and it fits in most shirt pockets pretty well. But wait and see if they don't release an SE2.

SE is dead.

Oh, and Apple, that stage 3 Bargaining? Forget it. I (may) move over elsewhere, and take my desktop and laptop with me. :)

Heh, ho.

So sorry to hear your SE died and you couldn't get your hands on a replacement!

My launch-day 64GB SE is still flying along (with a new battery), still perfect for phone calls, texts, emails, music, and CarPlay. It is truly a fantastic companion to my 2019 Mini 5, my 2019 27” iMac i9, my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, my 2018 Apple TV 4Ks, and my 2018 Series 4 Watch, so I have another NIB 128GB ready to go if something happens to my launch-day SE. :D

And now it seems that iOS 12 is the last version of iOS that the SE will accept. At least 12 is a great version of iOS...

Now surely a successor to the SE is just around the corner. The lack of a new Apple iPhone for 4 - 4.7 screen users is now very puzzling.

I read that rumor, I don’t believe it. I mean, it’s very possible for the A8 to be discontinued, but I don’t believe the A9 in the SE/6S would be discontinued.

If the rumor proves to be true, spring 2020 [Or somewhere in that timeframe] is slated to release the 4.7 iPhone 8 with the A13 processor.

The only reason that I can see the SE disappearing is if Apple’s plans for 13 are particularly ambitious and even 2015 phones won’t cut it. If so, I suspect that Apple would provide a 12.5 release with as many key features back ported to that version as possible.

The SE should get iOS 13. The SE was being sold as new this spring in the clearance section and Apple gives a new iOS device a year of new updates.

Both iPhone 7 and 8 are still being sold. Even if Apple do not come up with any updates to them and discontinue iPhone 7 in September, they will probably continue selling iPhone 8 for at least another year.

I love my iPhone SE, but it is FOUR months old, has a battery with 94% health and needs to be charged twice a day to last for my usage... I've checked the energy stats, but it's not really helpful...

What type of usage do you have that requires you to charge it twice / day.

Something may be wrong with it.

Personally I think Apple's going to have a few problems making an iPhone SE2 at this point in time. If they're able to make for a smaller notch they would have already in the Xs/Xr. As they probably can't, the notch will consume a far greater proportion of the display with an SE than is does already on larger phones. I'm not sure that makes for a good experience for anyone.

So then the question comes to whether it should be Face ID or Touch ID. If its the latter then where on the phone do you put it? While you get used to it on the back it sucks on the back. Same goes for a side sensor location. Or does Apple go for an in-display FPR of some type?

Given Apple's stance on Face ID I'm not seeing many good options being available.

Only reason I can see Apple dropping the SE from OS upgrades is if they want to stop supporting the screen size. Otherwise, since functionally equivalent to the 6s in many respects, and the rumor is that the 6s would be supported, performance wouldn't be a reason.

I can see the 5s and 6 if Apple wants to drop support for the lower RAM models.

That would be very ‘Un-Apple-like’. iOS support when discontinued, is because it doesn’t meet the performance/bit requirements for newer versions of iOS, I don’t think discontinuing the SE 4” would be the main cause for the display size. I’d say the SE continues through iOS 13, unless there is some contingency with iOS 13 that the A9 isn’t capable of.

In a coffee shop.
Well, I've been through the first four and have reluctantly come to the fifth.
Waited through March — surely they will? Now April is marching on and no sign. The Apple gods remain unmoved.

Denial
— They can't possibly discontinue such a great device.

Anger
— How dare they not bring out a new version of this phone that suits me 100% perfectly? *Rant*

Bargaining
— OK, Apple, release a new SE and I promise to stay in the "eco-system". No more peeping over the fence…

Depression — Well, this, just… sucks… I am no longer a valued customer… *sad face*

I suspect that you’re right ie it’s a design decision where the face id module just looks too big for a 4-4.7 inch phone replacement.

I think this is overblown... it would probably look a little weird/huge on a 4” display, but the piece that you quoted was me talking about it being a 5.0-5.5” display. That would certainly look just fine. Plus the notch is already being heavily rumored to be getting smaller over the next year or two.

I think the SE 5S 5 design is abit dated it’s had its reign if apple want to produce a low budget phone to please smaller screen fans then they should redevelop there XR for that cause

The 5c when that came out was probably a good sales point but the plastic look wasn’t the best although I found it had better reception signal cases using it ;)

Well now I wish I had snapped up one of those clearance SEs so I could have a fresh screen. Mine’s pretty beat up.

Rephrasing, the SE design is classic and the SE 5S S design was the most admired iPhone design ever produced by Apple, a smaller screen phone for those that loved the design priced at a level low enough to gain some users from Android.
