go to SETTINGS - GENERAL - NETWORK - EDGE and empty all infor in the EDGE SETTINGS and you will never accidently log onto ROGER rape ass data bandwidth at all... you may get a error sometimes for not having EDGE but I can live with that rather than pay a rape ass rate for data from ROGER...
 
Unlocking iPhone 1.1.1

Hey guys, I just recieved my new 1.1.1 iPhone from Apple. I want to unlock (not hack) the phone to use on my Rogers network, but I'm sort of new to this. I was wondering if anyone could suggest any Links/Youtube videos/instructions that are easy to follow (Besides the one in this thread) and work 100% to unlocking iPhones with 1.1.1 firmware. Also, I am using a PC not a MAC.

I have a USA iPhone that I unlocked, I bought the UK iPhone on the 9th. While I was in the O2 store I asked an Apple employee if I could sign up to O2 with my USA phone? ANSWER YES, he told me to put the original ATT sim back in the phone, go to iTunes and connect, you will now have a choice of using AT&T or O2:p

After you do this, how do you get the access/connection to drop? Is it timeout based? I noticed that after I erased the EDGE settings, the phone still had internet access via safari?

Also, I assume that as long as you do not browse the web you will not incur any charges (i.e. there is no wierd background programs doing network access)?

Also, will iPhone always choose WIFI access over EDGE if available?

just got an iphone from Apple on 5th Ave NYC, I wont get my hands on it untill wednesday but have a question, Can anybody confirm if 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 is shipping?
If 1.1.2 then i have a bit of a wait for Anysim? :mad:

I just bought one in Atlanta last Wednesday and it was 1.1.1. But its likely random based on stock supplies.

Try dialing *3001#12345#* from the emergency call screen and check the "versions" menu. If you have 04.01.13_G you are on 1.1.1.

unlocking iphone to replace new sim with old sim

i was just wondering if it was possible to unlock the sim on the iphone then replace the iphone sim with my old sim that is in my current motorola phone with out activiting the iphone. and still having the same cingular plan. because i don't want to make a new account i want to use my old account. i don't know if it will work mabe some one with more knowldge will know thanks

I just bought mine the 22th in 5th Ave store and it's 1.1.2

Any help yet for not "bricking" the thing?
 
what does PIN means?? what's the PIN??

Make sure you have a SIM-card with PIN turned off, and power on your phone (the supplied AT&T card works fine).
 
A PIN is the security code you can set on your SIM card.

So, make sure that you do not need to enter a code (a PIN-code) when you start your phone up.
 
if i have a brandnew iphone preinstalled 1.1.2 ... can i downgrade to 1.1.1? or am i screwed till someone figures it out?

You can downgrade to 1.1.1 to Jailbreak the phone (i.e. install 3rd party apps), but you can't currently downgrade to unlock for any carrier. There are some methods around for unlocking (such as Turbo SIM) but they cost a fair bit and may be illegal in some countries. The latest info from the dev teams seems to be that it won't be possible to unlock 1.1.2 until 1.1.3 (or whatever the next version is called) comes out due to changes in the firmware loader for the baseband.

with the downgrade could i use the ipod at least?
 
Just to let you know this does not work on the UK o2 iPhone so do not use because it means you have to do a whole restore. Takes a long time to do lol

if you got iPhone UK with 1.1.2, you have to first downgrade to 1.1.1 and than jailbreak by visting http://jailbreakme.com and installing oktopr application, which will make iPhone except the new version 1.1.2, than again u have to do jailbreak using (jailbreak.jar), once all done, you can use your O2 PAYG/Contract sim with iPhone .....if you want step by step instructions, do let me know i will try to more specific....

- downgrade to 1.1.1 from 1.1.2
- jailbreak using http://jailbreakme.com
- install OktoPrep
- update to 1.1.2
- jailbreak again using jailbreak.jar
 
I am going to Europe and I wanted to bring my iPhone along, rather than purchase another phone. AT&T's international plan is .99 a minute and that is just crazy. IF I unlock it, can I just buy a sim card there and pop it in? The minutes are much much less through local carriers there. THen, can I relock the phone so I can get all the updates and such through Apple?

I have a similar question, as I will be in Latin America for a while and I am wondering if I can do the same.
 
Sim Unlock Not Working

I have installed BOTH IPHONESIMFREE & anySim. When I try both, at the end it says "Unable to unlock, Please Restart" Then I try this and it does the same over, over, over again...

Please Help

I have a phone with 1.1.1. I edited the contacts like instructed get to jailbreakme.com click on install app and it looked like it installed. It didnt do anything after that so i restarted it on my own. When it turns back on i still see the slide for emergency option. Is there a way to confirm that the app was installed? Should I just go do it again and wait for it restart automatically ? It is not saying slide to unlock like the instructions state it will. Can anyone help?

Not Sure Why but i got the same error.....

my fix was i used a different computer and restored to 1.1.1 and iPhoneSim Free worked from there....

because when i was using my laptop, it would try to acctivate with AT&T and for what ever reason i could not get iUnlock to work or iPhone Sim Free to work
so try this and see if it helps
