Why not just make an iPad mini with all the iPhone tech in it? The Max/Plus/Whatever other names users would looooove the huge screen.

This is frustrating to say the least.

My friend just got a flip phone as she's tired of using her 15Pro Max. And that's someone who's always gone for the biggest iPhone model. I don't want to switch to Android, but Apple is effectively making me look elsewhere after 16 years (!!!) of being an iPhone-exclusive user. This obsession with bigger screens is tiring! NOT EVERYONE WANTS A BIG SCREEN ON A PHONE!

Honestly it’s so weird that sales of the Plus are supposedly not great. Most of the people I know with non-pro iPhones have Plus models, and I don’t think they’re the type of people who would go for an Air IMO (unless it’s priced around the same as the Plus)
Strangely enough, I have yet to see one person in my circles with a Plus phone. And they are super rare in the wild, at least here in France. We've got Android literally everywhere. It's insane how much traction that system gained in the past couple of years.

I really want a 3.5 inch iPhone with narrow bezels and touchId on the top power button.
2.5 x “Retina display” Oled or thinner. Maybe slightly thick so no rear camera bump. And 5x optical zoom. The iPhone 18 mini Pro. Sapphire glass, Titanium shell. 8gb ram. 1-2tb storage. Only one model. Dark aubergine. Should go two days between charges.

You need to sign up for Apple's Customize Your iPhone Program.

But seriously, I could imagine a day when the entire manufacturing process is automated, and designed to allow some degree of this kind of customization.

For some reason, I always assumed the Slim would be a Pro model.
Eventually, when the SoC goes to 2nm and they can fit the cameras needed. I’ll be surprised if they fit the Pro chipset in though. They should with the price they’re going to charge for this though.

I wish Apple had the courage to make the phone WIDER. I hate candy bar phones because you don't gain a whole lot more by increasing the height. But increase the width and suddenly photos and web pages and messages all get bigger

But what about people with small hands? Well they end up using their phones with both hands anyway with the current sizes. Making the phone a bit wider would actually make it easier

Please use iOS 19 to update the UI to better accommodate larger screen sizes. The wasted space on the Home Screen is comically bad on the iPhone 16 pro max in particular. It’s a very expensive top of the line phone that a significant portion of apple users choose to buy every year. There is no reason Apple can’t spend developer resources making sure the OS properly takes advantage of this screen size.

Iphone 16 pro was narrower as opposed to wider. A stupid move.

Why on earth isn't there still a 5.8 ish size phone. That was basically the perfect size... 😟

At the very least, the empty space on either side of the Search field, above the Dock, could be used for a couple more icons.

How long did it take from 5s to 12 mini?

Well 5S and 12 mini where all small phone in today’s standard. But those ppl who insist iPhone 5S weren’t the one who wanted 12 mini. To them, iPhone 12 mini is still too big. They wanted 4 inch phone.

Probably mini folks will grow to accept 6.3 inch is the small phone, lol. After all, we went from 4 inch to 5.4…

I think size does matter? Where have I heard this before? Anyways variation is always good for the market. Since the demographics for phone size does vary.

Ming-Chi Kuo claimed at one point that Apple might start using a metalens for the front-facing camera in an iPad model before the end of 2024, apparently since the front-facing camera's lens has less stringent requirements than the main camera lenses, but so far that didn't happen. Maybe in 2025, to "test" it in an iPad prior to trying it in the iPhone 17 Pro Max?

True for many people, though the sales figures I was able to find say the iPhone 13 mini accounted for only about 3% of iPhone sales over its lifetime, and the iPhone 12 mini before it accounted for only about 3%-5%, depending on whose figures you look at. Keeping the iPhone SE series might have been a workable middle ground for size, but the sale figures for it apparently haven't been high enough for Apple either.

But of course those figures don't help people who reasonably want a smaller iPhone.
Sadly, Apple really did not try their best on the mini.
The 12 mini was essentially a smaller version of the 12 and not the 12 Pro.
Same thing happened with the 13 mini.
I was in the market when the 13 series came out and cannot believe the compromise between the 13 mini and the 13 Pro (the other 2 phones were not even considered on my mind).
I do realize I may not be their target audience though, but still wanted a small phone with top of the line spec and not a nerfed version. :(
Still proud of the small phone choices I made over the years to put the money where my mouth is.

Well, to be fair, Apple didn't call them the 12 and 13 Pro mini! Maybe they didn't want to self-cannibalize sales of the Pro and Max-sized iPhones.

Perhaps Apple can simplify the line-up by not making a Pro vs non-Pro, and keep a lower priced SE version. 🤔
That would seem to make sense. A smaller, lower-priced SE model could fill the role of the current non-Pro iPhone, while also being smaller for people who want a smaller phone, with the next tier up being the Pro, then the Pro Max for people who are fine with a larger phone.

iPhone 13 Mini sales were about 3% of all iPhone 13 sales, so too low for them to keep offering it annually. But they might want to consider offering it every, say, three years to meet pent-up demand for a smaller phone.

Its main downside was battery life, but that could be easily addressed without affecting its ease of holding and pocket-ability by making it just a mm thicker (allowing more battery volume). The added thickness would also help with the camera quality.

Not a single thing mentioned about long overdue screen quality. Just mumble jumble about technologies employed. Another up and coming screen lottery year now doubt. 👍🏽
