Total cost of ownership (i.e. initial outlay + contract * months ) differ by less than £1 across all combinations of contract, phone, and duration. Most of them are about 25-50 pence difference - over 18 months. In all cases, it's the Orange that's cheaper for what it's worth.

Minutes and texts are all identical apart from the 18 month Orange package which has double the minutes and texts of the O2 package. Other than that, they're all the same.

I've tried O2's data network and Orange's data network - and side by side where I am, Orange can justify the name Mobile broadband, but O2's is mobile dial-up (or worse). So 750 meg/month on 3G data, double the minutes and texts? I'll be going for the 18 month Orange 3GS 32Gb - and save a whopping 59 pence over O2 :)

pay and go prices are basically identical.

I'd recomend buying yourself a Wispa Gold bar with your savings

A new Iphone and a chocolate bar?

Your in for the best day of your life!! :D

Well only the £30 tariff seems to be different and while it is a damn sight better than O2's, it's probably just out my usage. I guess 300 mins/ 300 texts is just too much common sense and I'll have to unnecessarily go to the one above. Come on Vodafone, do something special!

Unfortunately Vodafone are generally that bit more expensive :( Orange've missed a trick here a bit, especially in the run up to Christmas.

Then again, I've never had a phone on Orange because I've always found better deals elsewhere, so I don't know what I was hoping for.

Well if you need data on the move and I certainly do then the offerings from Orange are very poor compared to O2 at present. I'll be staying with O2 and their genuinely unlimited data. Orange dropped the ball here!

How does the wifi work with Orange? With 02 you get unlimited Wi-Fi included in the tariff available at any of the The Cloud and BT Openzone hotspots.

Thanks OllyW - so indirectly that means less WiFi hotspots than O2 :(

Another difference is tethering, Orange only offer this on the business plan and charge "from" £4.25/month. Is it free with 02?

I can't believe this. Apple must be really robbing the network providers, or the network provider are all as bent and crooked as each other !

Tethering on O2 is £15/£30 a month via additional Bolt-On, hopefully Orange will introduce tethering for non-business plans at a reasonable price.

could be that apple set the tariffs you know, cant blame orange if apple say if you want our phone you have to stick to these tariffs

"Fair usage policy of 750Mb/month applies" for the "unlimited" internet. Sucky, Orange. Very sucky.

Also on the Pay & Go iPhones Orange gives you 250mb/month of free Internet browsing for 12 months. Pretty crap compared to O2 which is 12 months of Unlimited data.

lol...there's absolutely no point to switch to Orange unless O2 coverage is REALLY bad in your area. Their PAYG package is even inferior to O2's.

Is it me or have they just updated the info? New tethering options have been added and the 750mb fair usage has been taken away from the wifi hotspots.

Makes it a little bit better, for people in cities anyway where there are bound to be more wi-fi hotspots.

oh, and they've added some roaming charge info for the £122 a month contract, not that anyone would be interested in that. No sane person/non-lottery winner would anyway.

It's worth switching if you are on O2's £30 a month tariff.

Yes, it's been updated since this morning.

I'll be staying on O2 when my contract expires in December but I may give them a ring and say Orange have made me a great offer to switch...

Fair point but i doubt many people will be. Their tethering options seem better but it remains to be seen what 'from £4.99 means'

Also there doesn't seem to be any word on Visual Voicemail

This initial offering is just to move existing customers over to the iPhone. There will be much wider demand next summer for the G4, and that's when the price wars will start, especially once the initial rush for the G4 is over. Just my $.02.

To be honest, in London it seems like everyone has a 3G or 3GS.

Is it me, or they seem to have updated the page, now showing European Roaming Minutes and Data for the most expensive 24 month tariff. Not that that's going to sway anyone, just an observation. :)

Also, interesting how Wi-Fi is free and Unlimited for any Orange customer, even pay and go, forever. Still not enough for me however.
