Hey y’all is anyone else really excited about the iPhone Ultra!? Like I know it’s losing FaceID and MagSafe but I’m super excited about this phone. I love foldable and I’ve had the Z Fold but I hate anything not Apple, so I sent it back and I’m waiting for the Ultra. Who’s with me?

Im more excited now I've seen Samsung's lovely Z Fold 8. Don't forget losing FaceID is a conscious design choice because authenticating things on the inner display by turning the phone over repeatedly would get old, fast and there is no way you're not putting a £2000 phone in a case which will add Magsafe anyway.

I am not going back to touchID, period. That is a deal breaker for me. 18 ProMax will be just fine.

MagSafe is not on the android fold 8 either. That may give us an indication.

That indicates absolutely nothing, none of Samsung’s current flagships, even the slabs, have magnets.
The pixel 10 pro Fold has MagSafe, pretty easy to say that that is an indication that the iPhone fold will have it.

iPhone fold will Probably be too thin for MagSafe magnets and internal charging.

Also, all of the other super thin foldables that have MagSafe, like the pixel.
The magnets Apple uses in the current iPhones are only 0.55 mm thin, thinness is not the barrier you think it is.

So basically, all I can gather from the responses I got, is that people think it won’t have magsafe… because a fake knock-off dummy unit from months ago didn’t show it, because Samsung deliberately left it out, and because, uh, feelings and vibes.
Absolutely nothing with substance, no real source, no reliable leaker confirming it, just… trust me bro.

While iPhone Air is a good argument here, it’s still 5.6mm thick vs the rumored 4.5mm thickness of the iPhone Ultra when unfolded. Space is going to be even more of a constraint. However, if they put the rumored 1,900mAh cell on that side of the phone then that might create the space needed for MagSafe.

I’m not planning to buy one myself, but I’m looking forward to seeing what Apple announces. Whenever Apple releases something, it usually has some unique features that set it apart from similar products offered by other companies.

Im very excited for this iphone, ipad Mini hybrid. Iphone 12/13 mini was also one of my favorite devices for one handed use but sometimes you needed a bigger screen. And I never could use an ipad Mini, since it was not really "portable" since you still needed a bag to carry the thing. This seems to solve all these problems and I can actually open office spreadsheets, powerpoints, etc for viewing for work as well. Really looking forward, even with the 2000+ price tag, I think it'll be worth it for me.

Im just hoping we dont lose that wide selfie camera from the 17 and 17 pro series phones. I care more about that then any zoon lens on the back.

While pricing will be high, the use case can justify it in the ultra's case. Its more than I can say for the vision pro, which was high price, but I honestly returned it and wouldnt even buy it for $2000 at this point, given how uncomfortable that thing was. To me if AVP was comfortable, lighter, even that $3500 would have been worth it even just for the best tech and entertainment value.

I think for some the foldable provides a high value proposition in usability.

Same. I am sorely tempted to get it regardless, but I cannot cannot cannot stand TouchID. It may work fabulously for some people, but it never works for me! FaceID works for me 99.999% of the time. I just cannot fathom spending that much money and settling for punching in a passcode every.single.time I need to unlock the phone. I have the iPad mini and that is what I have to do when utilizing that iPad. I also have the latest iPad Pros (both the 13 inch and 11 inch) and I love how the FaceID unlocks them flawlessly and lightning fast (my iPhone 17 Pro Max as well!). If my Apple Watch didn't automatically unlock my MacBook Pro I'd be frustrated with entering the passcode for that all the time as well.

Not at all.

I didn’t like “flip phones” (as they were called in the old days) as almost everyone had a Moto Razr V3 or some fancy Flip-Nokia or Sony Ericsson.
I always felt - and still feel - everywhere mechanical components are involved, durability goes down the dumps. I mean, there’s always dust etc. in your pocket. That and hinges - a big no no for me.

I'll be buying it when it comes time to refresh my phone and tablet sometime next year. That way I can have a fresh battery on all 3 devices when the time comes. With the ultra replacing my iphone and mini use at home I am looking forward to having fewer charge cycles.

I'll likely be switching at the same time from iPhone 17E to Air, and iPad Mini 7 to 8 at same time.

Well whether the iPhone fold has MagSafe or not, I will not buy one. I don’t care for folding phones. It’s a convenient gimmick to sell more phones. Yes they are unique, handy when you need a tablet sized screen but cumbersome. I have friends who use them. I hope they are built well.

I’ll be waiting for the iPhone 18 pro max in light blue & the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra since I’ve mostly switched to Samsung / Android anyway. If Apple hasn’t fixed the ghosting & floating light internal reflection in the camera optics, especially with the new 1x camera & variable aperture, then I definitely will stay with Samsung! The S26 Ultra cameras don’t have this issue. I’ve only seen it with the sun.
