Yup, I always said the USB-C port is a disaster vs. the secure and reliable lightning connector. Now it's confirmed: USB-C sucks. The connection is fragile at best:

https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/comments/16putnb

Mine is the same.

Thanks, EU. You forced an inferior port on all of us. Horrible.
The poster even said

"I tested my iPad Pro and MacBook ports and none feel like this so I was wondering if it’s just a problem with my phone or a design choice… anyone have this same experience?"

Okay so he got an iPhone that had a defective part, if it's a problem where he don't like the wiggle take it back and have Apple replace it under warranty. Every single device I have that has uSB-C has had a problem, it wiggles a little bit but I think that's the design. there are millions of devices out there with USB-C so it's not an inferior product.

I got sick of cleaning lint out of the lightning port for years. Now that my new phone is using USB-C, I'm using wireless charging. My ****** cat was always knocking my phone off my nightstand, but now I have a heavy magsafe charger that locks on tight and so far I haven't missed my alarm because my cat knocked my phone under my bed. Unlrelated, anyone want a cat?

Aye, ok petal... 😂

Not once have I had any issues with any USB C port being 'loose' on any of my Apple devices that use USB C

It's either sods law and you're simply stereotyping; or you've got hangups that you might need to deal with

I can’t remember the last time I plugged in my phone. Wireless charging and WiFi/Bluetooth connections will probably negate the need to even have a port before long.

That’s possible that charging eventually becomes wireless only.

Mine is more loose than when I got it... I’ve also had a ton of connection issues depending on the cable, especially with carplay. Never had issues with third party lightning cables, though I also didn’t need to use them much because I had plenty of Apple’s from over the years

Guess I’m going to have to buy a bunch of Apple’s USB-C cables and hope they’re better. Sorry environment 🥺

There may not be anything “wrong” with USB-C, but lightning was a frickin solid connector and I’m gonna miss it

Remember that with Lightning, the plugs were approved by Apple, so any time you'd buy a lightning cable you were getting a quality plug.

With USB-C, there is no such approval; USB-C plugs come in all sorts of varying quality. The "Insignia" branded cable I have makes a sort of "crunch" when you plug it in. I have a USB-C external SSD that makes no click at all but stays in nicely anyway. Meanwhile the cable that came with my 15PM makes a nice solid *snap* when I plug it in.

So yeah, we just have to buy high quality cables. The part that "clicks" is in the plug, not the socket.

Nope. USB-C has always been a less stable connection than Lightning. USB-C connections get looser over time. And it certainly is the EU’s fault. Now there will be hundreds of tons of Lightning cables dumped into landfills because of them.
Awesome. Please show the data on this. I’m sure you did some big anova on this or can link to a peer reviewed article that shows it. What sample size are we talking about? Does the study involve several brands? What is the p value?

Or maybe it’s just your opinion?

What’s that I smell? Ah the sweet sweet smell of “confirmation bias”, yep I have had Lightening ports also wiggle but you don’t see me posting or claiming things. It’s just Apple’s poor securing method to the case that sucks.

The claims are anecdotal, having pins exposed like Lightning Connector leads it to be scratched and damaged. I have had countless MFi cables that have failed this way. Let’s not forget Apple’s own cables breaking at many weak spots which led it to adopt braided fabric cables instead but advertised it as some “green solution”. Many people believe the Apple Hype which reminds me of the previous elitist mindset.

This is interesting 🤔 Mine is fine. I am sorry to hear your USB-C bad experience. I hope the problem is corrected somehow by getting a new one. I like USB-C and all its benefits. Keep calm and be happy 😊

Away from you
Seriously question here - why does MacRumors always recommend forum posts with people making absurd complaints on the front page?

Every day the top post is something like:
* USB-C sucks
* The M3 sucks
* Apple sucks and is going to fail any day now
* Tim Cook sucks
* I'm selling all my Apple stuff to go Windows/Android over Pretend Problem X

I enjoy my Apple hardware and I come here to learn what's next -- and the first thing at the top of the page is these obnoxious posts.
You forgot
* How can Apple sell a "Pro" _____ with only X of ____
:p

In all seriousness, I'm sure the negative rants float to the top due to engagement... But these featured posts like you mention are really useful for adding people to your ignore list. Imagine my surprise when OP here was already on my list from a previous encounter. :confused:

I personally also find Apple's USB-C implementation on the iPhone to be inferior compared to other devices. It's wiggly and I find that annoying. It gives me the subjective impression that it's gonna break. Never got that impression with Lightning.

On the iPad and MacBook they implemented it really well. On the iPhone I find it to be ... not so ideal. I mainly charge with MagSafe and try to avoid using USB-C.

It could be that it's totally safe and fine despite being wiggly. Time will tell.

I just plugged into my 15 Pro Max and it doesn't feel wiggly at all. What cable are you using? Try the charging cable that came with the phone.

Here's a tiny videoclip of me wiggling a USB-C connector on my Macbook. That's about the same amount that it wiggles on the phone. Really wondering what you're seeing.

That's the same amount of wiggle I am seeing too, mainly with the original cable. To be fair, with third-party cables it's better. So maybe the Apple cable is just cheap?

Tbh I've had multiple bad experiences with USB-C. I find them unreliable and break easily. Or maybe I'm just an idiot who is doing something wrong.

Still, lightning had to go. The transfer speeds were awful and USB-C is the universally accepted standard.

Just see my previous post w/video. Two Apple devices from 2017, used heavily, one with USB-C, one with Lightning. Both tested with an Apple branded cable.

Yup, that’s how I feel. It was time, yet it will be sad to see such a rock solid connector go.

It’s not how much they wiggle that is the problem; it’s the increasing fragility of a secure connection over time.

I have used the USB "C" since they became available. The loose fit has always been a problem. But that problem comes from junk cables. The quality control on some of them is terrible. Here is what you do before you condemn this plug get a Micrometer You don't have to spend big bucks on a Starrett or a Mitutoyo, Amazon has reasonably priced digital ones that are plenty accurate enough for these kind of measurements. When you get a cable check out the "C" plugs actual dimensions and compare them with the standard. What you will find is Good cables vary only a tiny amount all with in the standards tolerance.
