Aah, the irony. Besides the fact that the video you posted of HTML 5 is... bingo, in flash!
Hmm that sounds a lot like the same BS arguments give on why MMS was not on the iPhone....
Lmao. People actually think iPhone not getting flash is a good thing. I'll take useless dribble for $200 Alex
You're clearly able to have your own opinion on it. I see nothing but cons, however.
HTML 5 isn't fully supported yet in browsers. It's new. It will take time to be widely adopted. Nevermind that the original video was probably posted as h264 and someone uploaded it to youtube.
Here's why Flash is bad. Why any non-open standard is bad. No one but Adobe can make a Flash plugin. Which means that you are at the mercy of Adobe to provide support, optimization and updates. With open standards like HTML 5 and H.264 anyone can use it. It can be extended and issues can be addressed without going through another company like Adobe. It means you can (in theory) view a page on one browser, and see it exactly the same on another. What you take for granted everyday when viewing a website is the result of open standards. Flash is not open.
Have you watched CPU usage on websites that support flash on your mac? Watching a youtube video on my Mac Pro pegs one processor at 100% Watching a HD movie in H.264 uses significantly less processor power. Adobe can claim that battery life and cpu usage is better in their new version but why then is their desktop version still utter garbage? They have proven time and time again they do not want to support the Mac platform. But now they want to about face and support the iPhone? Please.
What Adobe is afraid of is that they will have no foothold on Mobile platforms. And Apple not backing down on saying no to Flash is freaking amazing. Apple is in a position to support HTML 5 and make developers support open standards. This means the end of flash in the long run. Which means no obnoxious advertisements that demand your attention on websites. Why the hell were flash blockers created in the first place? We shouldn't have ever had to create such a thing. It's bad enough I have to install browser plugins to control the problems of another browser plugin.
Go talk to ANY figurehead in the Mac community and they will tell you they use ClickToFlash on their Mac and that they are happy there's no Flash on their phone. Option or not. By giving users the "option" you are basically giving Adobe more of a strangle hold. By not giving users the option you are saying "no, we've had enough of your bull Adobe. Fix your problems or die in a fire."
Cons for flash
- Not open: No one but Adobe can fix the problems in Flash
- Which means possibilities for exploits in the code
- It's a resource hog on a device with limited resources
- Flash was never designed to operate on a handheld device from a user interface perspective.
- It's a pile of advertising: I don't want my iPhone blaring "You've just won an iPod Touch!" whenever i goto a website
- Terrible Accessibility support
- Non-standard UI controls
like I said, have your own opinions on it. But Flash is the devil basically. It doesn't play nice with anything. It's a hack job of a plugin. I live to see the day Flash is abandoned by Adobe.
