iPhone vs Droid - Interesting

I have to say that I LOVE my iPhone. It will take a lot to pry me away, but I am very impressed with some of the features that were shown with the droid. Specifically, the dock and how if you put it in, you can use it as an alarm clock, digital picture frame, media center, etc. That is a really nice feature.

I don't like the droid interface, looks clunky and the phone itself looks super cheap. The features mentioned above are the only thing I really like. I also am not a fan of the qwerty keyboard. Some might like it, but I think they are useless now.

What do you all think? Wouldn't it be cool if the iPhone and a side dock like that. Would be sweet.
 
I bet until the next iphone arrives. Here's hoping that its just not a small speed bump as my 3G contract will be up by then.

If the iPhone didn't exist then I guess I would have an Android phone to quench my smart phone needs.
 
As a diehard iPhone owner and technology enthusiast, I had to get a G1 just to test the competition waters, and I wrote a review about my Week with Android and the HTC G1.

Android has its pros like multitasking, the home screen, and notification bar.

It also has its cons: the hardware quality, battery life, and hardware speed.

There is a software keyboard, I believe it was introduced in 1.5. But as far as I am concerned, it is terrible, on the G1 anyway.
 
Im thinking of switching just because I am bored with the iPhone. I have owned an iPhone since the original. While I appreciate the speed of the 3GS I dont like the design nor do I really like 3.0. The iPhone O/S feels so dated and boring to me.

I want to try Android 2.0 and I love the specs of the Droid (not so much the look of the phone though). I will probably come back to the iPhone once 4.0 is released and the tech specs are updated.
 
I think I may open a Verizon account next week to try out the Droid alongside my iPhone 3GS. I like my iPhone and all but I'm honestly ready to move on to something else. Android 2.0 looks great and we're finally starting to get some decent hardware under the hood.

I am pretty much in the same boat. However, I want the HTC Leo version. Supposed to have a Snapdragon 1Ghz processor!:eek:

Interesting. Quite a few people who are bored with the iPhone. Which brings up another question, what about all the money you spent on apps and stuff? You're just going to bail?

Just because I like shiny things I still find myself wandering into phone shops, but the iPhone's the first phone I've ever truly liked. Everything else always had an interface from hell (although the springboard could probably be more streamlined) and froze all the time and about 60% of the phone's functions never quite worked.

For this reason I'll be really hesitant to change phone, but at the same time I really do want great competition for the iPhone.

Have you jailbroken yet? It honestly renews the love for the phone. It's like having a new phone again.

Looks cheap?? It's made out of metal and glass.
 
guess i'll chime in with my 2cents.

i have the mytouch3G (MT3G), or dubbed as HTC Magic in asia. i've updated to the 1.6 donut and noticed there's still a lot of room for improvement. the phone itself is fine, great for multi-task, but starts to slow down once you load a lot of stuff in. i've even kept most of the icon away from the home page. compared to my 3Gs, 3Gs wins hands down even with 3 pages filled with icons.

notification bar is wonderful on the MT3G, which is something I wish I could have in the 3Gs. the touchscreen on the MT3G is fair, the edges of the screen needs a lot of pressure and not always picks up on the dime like the 3Gs. 3Gs is glass sensitive, and the MT3G is more like pressure sensitive type.

the MT3G or droid like type of phone will get ppl hooked if you are addicted to Google apps. for me i travel a lot, so i depend on google apps quite a bit. so needless to say, with the MT3G, i can use a lot of google app directly without having to open up a new browser for it, like the 3Gs. most of all, i can direct dial out or SMS out using my GV, which 3Gs doesn't.

as for battery life, MT3G on a fully charge battery, with LCD brightness turned down, i can use it from 7:30AM till 11PM at night (without wifi, GPS turned on) before i need a recharge. With the 3Gs, it's about the same, but a couple hrs better, even with the wifi turned on.

so both has pros and cons. with Tmo, 3G network is slow on the MT3G. but i know that depends on the area where i live. EDGE is faster for me on the MT3G and much better on battery life. with Tmo on 3GS, i can only run edge, but with the power processor on the 3Gs, EDGE is faster than MT3G.

so that's that. i love both, cuz it all has it's pros and cons. the best would be to have a 3Gs with direct Google features, cuz i hate the fact that when i run a google app in 3Gs, it opens a browser. super annoying. next thing i know, i have like 8 browsers opened. oh well...

oh, i forgot to mention.. google's free GPS navigation app coming soon to droid base phones with turn by turn and it's FREE@!!!!! can't wait for that. if someone knows of a free turn by turn for 3Gs.. let me know!!

Whoa where do you alll get the money to do that?! It hurts my heart to read this as I have been drooling over the iphone for years... Verizon contract done in t minue 12 days!!!!!
 
Real world experience on the gps is needed before I'd say that the Google GPS is a "killer app."

Google's GPS app is free, but the meter will be running on your mobile's data plan unless you've got some form of "unlimited" plan, unlike a dedicated GPS unit in the car.

What happens to "turn by turn" if your wireless broadband connection gets iffy? With a standalone GPS, you're just limited by the sat birds.

This is true. I can't imagine having my phone "Apple's way". Jailbreaking is amazing and you can do soo much more (Multi-task, customize,dozens of features the iPhone should have,etc etc etc)

As a man that lays, I suggest you google the term. In short, it allows you to bypass Apple's control over the UI and customize lots of stuff and do pretty much everything people have been complaining about missing on the iPhone.



Anything people whine about, there's a crack for that ;)
