I have a iPhone 3G on ios 4.0 GM and I'm trying to jailbreak using redsn0w for windows but when I try to put it in dfu mode it just does nothing
P.S. I have tried a full restore

DFU Mode

So you connected up your iPhone up to your computer, then held the Sleep and Home button for 10 seconds then released the Sleep and kept holding the Home button and it still didn't go into DFU mode?

Yeah I have no idea what to do

Google a program called RecBoot. Not sure if you are using a mac or pc. I use mac and I know they have for that. You just have to click a button so it doesn't get easier then that.

I now have a new problem my iPhone won't restore the little bar stops 2/3 of the way through then iTunes freezes and I can't restore to 3.1.3 or 4.0. Do you think this will be fixed on the 21st or do you have any suggestions to help me out

P.S. I'm on windows

I had an old beat up 2G iphone that someone gave me to JB and unlock and could never put that thing in DFU. Tried everything it just wouldnt.
Might have been a hardware issue along with the dented sides and cracked screen though :D

i fixed the restore part it was because itunes 9.2 isn't compatible with wifi sync once i uninstalled that it worked perfect but i still cant get into dfu mode i tried a complete restore and re-downloaded redsn0w and still nothing is it because im on 4.0 on my iphone (by that i mean is it a software or hardware problem

sorry if the grammar isnt great im only 15

Sad thing is I can't ether. I'm using a 3g on 4.0 gm. I've jailbroken numerous iphones and ipods the needed to go into DFU and they all went fine.

Also how did you get your 3G to run at 620mhz? I thought they were clocked at 412..

Neither redsn0w nor Spirit sucks. They are two very different jailbreaks, and each has its advantages and disadvantages. Spirit is simple, does not require a restore, and works on any device, but it is easily patched by Apple and one must be careful when updating iTunes; Redsn0w is more permanent, ensures that your phone can always be jailbroken by pwning your bootloader and getting you on the "jailbreak train," and can hacktivate your phone, but has a steeper learning curve and will not work for all devices. Which jailbreak is better for you depends on your needs.

Steeper learning curve because you have to click more than one button?? I realize why some would want to use Spirit (to not have a tethered JB on a 3GS), but other than that one reason, you’re better off with Redsn0w. I also seem to remember a lot of people having problems with Spirit.

Steeper learning curve because of the need to download and select the correct firmware, the need to choose the correct activation option, and the need for some users to determine what baseband version they have, and the frequent need to use the undocumented "old firmware" trick to get redsn0w to work. I, too, like redsnow, but you can't seriously be arguing that we haven't seen dozens of threads by people who've failed to complete their jailbreak with redsn0w. There are places for both kinds of tool in the jailbreaking community.

I was on 4.0 trying to use DFU to go back to 3.1.3 but couldn't...the reason was because the baseband was updated.

Is that the problem?

Is it giving you any error code/number?

Still can't do it hopefully I can get an iPhone 4 tomorrow if not I will just have to be unjailbroken

can't get my 3GS 4.0 into DFU

i have tried and tried - timed everything over and over and the iphone just goes into recovery not DFU
i am doing this with the iphone powered off
it's connected to the iMac
newest version of iTunes
power button and home pressed for ten seconds
release the power button hold the home
iTunes consistently just tells me it's in restore mode

very frustrating

any help?

I've used just about every single jailbreak that has ever been release, including those for both Mac, and Windows.

Some are easier than others, and some require more time, but they all accomplish essentially the same task. So to say that one "sucks" compared to another is really a very ignorant statement.

Spirit is by far, the easiest jailbreak to implement. Why is it a bad thing to use an easy one?
