This morning, I got this problem AGAIN... I still don't know what app is causing this, but I think iOS shouldn't allow this to happen. It's just a bit frustrating.
You said you know which app it is, WHICH app is it that you think it is???

Mine didnt do it for weeks and now it is doing it again. SIGH

For me, it’s Whatsapp.
OK, thanks.

I suspect it is not that app, though. Unless closing it instantly makes the issue disappear. I thought it was waze then FB and so on but I dont think it is an app.

How have you confirmed it is that app? What exactly did you do to make you believe that?

While typing this, I checked my battery in Settings. Guess what, it’s back... So it was NOT Whatsapp!

Problem is that I now still don’t know what is causing this. :(

Reset Network settings.

If that doesn’t work, reset all settings.

If that doesn’t work, do a DFU restore.
[doublepost=1525631705][/doublepost]Try turning off BT/HandOff/Location services for a while. One at a time.
[doublepost=1525631738][/doublepost]Permanently turn off any Wifi syncing with iTunes / Coconut Battery etc, if it is enabled.

Seems to be an app for quite a few.

No, it doesn’t. Just like the last post I quoted. The user thought it was an app, then quickly realized it’s not.

I was one of the first to post about this issue but my post was merged into this thread.

I’m running only 20 apps on my phone, and with the exception of the BoA, google and the YouTube app and another passwords app the rest are all stock. And. I have the issue, well had the issue. After 11.3 it hasn’t returned for me.

We all have different apps on the phone. Yet many have the problem. Are you suggesting it’s more than one app? And at the same time the same app for one could not be causing the same issue for another user?

Nah...it’s not an app so unless you have proof stop saying it is.

Feel free to read to the thread and see that for various people exiting or removing and app actually did the trick. It doesn't mean that applies to everyone, but it also doesn't mean that it can't be something like an app in some situations.

But woudnt you agree it’s a little odd that the same app for one person is not causing the same battery effect as another?

And that it also must be multiple apps? That’s a bit unrealistic no?

Just as it would be similarly a little odd that some people experience this type of issue and others aren't?

I had this happen, it was trying to sync a bunch of music from the cloud. Reset it, took it to the store, etc. and no lock. Finally solved it by turning off sharing/syncing from the cloud, see if that's it

I have a question for the people who state this problem is caused by an app: Does the app that causes it have a high background activity time when looking in Settings > Battery?

I just noticed that closing all apps that are opened, immediately fixes the problem. So does that confirm that the problem is caused by an app that is stuck running?

This problem has been brutal for me. It usually happens after I fully charge my phone and take it off the charger and leave it sitting overnight. Then the battery usage page tells me App Store (audio) was using 50+ percent of my battery.

I didn’t even charge it last night and when I woke up it had gone from 1.5 hours usage to over 10 hours, and the App Store usage is down to 30 percent, so no idea what it could be now.

I can confirm it was an app for me! It was the official Reddit app. When it’s open in the background, it keeps draining my battery. So I downloaded Apollo (Reddit users will know it).

I figured this out by closing all apps in the background one by one and looking at the usage time. So I put my iPhone in stand-by after closing each app. So like this:
- Looking at usage time in Settings > Battery.
- Closing a background app.
- Put the iPhone in stand-by.
- Wait a few minutes.
- Check usage time again.
- Repeat until problem is fixed.

The app you closed when the problem is fixed is the cause of the problem! For me (and several others on Reddit), it’s the official Reddit app. I hope this helps a few people here!

Thought it was for me too, but deleted the app and had the same problem. Ultimately reset all settings and think I’ve solved it.

can confirm that it’s happening to my ip8 plus (11.3.1) as well. Did a reset on network settings and everything seems to be ok for now. Will update again, hopefully apple’s new update will fix this once and for all.

It is not an app. I had it happen again yesterday. Charged to 100% and kept happening, so waited for it to go to 99 then charged to 100 but RESET networks first, which means I now have to remember to sign in to every wifi that it usually signs into by itself.

If it was an app closing the app should fix it, but that never fixed it for me. Very frustrating.

Have to reset network settings or it will just keep happening, just happened to me again and I wondered if just charging would fix it but NO i had to reset network settings which means I now have to remember somehow to sign in to new networks.

I can check "ask to join networks" but that is maddening as we know, comes on constantly. And my battery was going down when I charged to 100 but did NOT reset networks, so something is using the battery.

And someone above said they found the culprit REDDIT (be careful, lots of rightwing propaganda is spread there), anyway I dont have that app so it is NOT that app.

Guys. I just made progress. I just turned off location services and now usage and stand by is different. Now I have to figure out which specific app that’s using location is causing the issue.
Yea, wish that worked for me, never does.

That ‘someone’ that said it was caused by Reddit is me. Please do not inisnuate that I am lying... For me it was that app, I tested it and confirmed it as I explained. Since using Apollo instead of the official Reddit app, the problem hasn’t returned. So FOR ME, it was Reddit!

So use my method to check if it’s caused by an app for you. Note that re-installing doesn’t work.

You misunderstood my comment which I will take responsibility for. I dont question what you believe happened at all, I am saying that we have had multiple people claim it was this app or that app, yours is just another person thinking they found THE app that causes this. So my point is it is not any app that is the problem most of us are having.

If it was then I would not have the problem because I dont have Reddit, or there are many apps causing it, or more likely it isnt ANY app but IOS.

Sorry if I made it sound like I was attacking you, not at all my intention.

i.e. if you read the entire thread you will see people claim they figured it out because it was THIS app or THAT app, none of which most of us have, so it cant be those apps that is causing this for all of us.

Alright, no problem! It was not my point to state that the Reddit app is the cause of the problem for everyone. That’s why I explained the method I used instead of saying “delete Reddit!”. Are you sure it isn’t an app for you? Have you tried my method?

As far as iOS being the cause, it could be for sure. However, for several people here and for me it was an app. Also Apple Support told me it is probably an app stuck in the background.

When I had Reddit open in the background (and the screen off), the usage time would increase. If I closed that app, the usage time wouldn’t increase anymore. Then I opened Reddit again and kept it open in the background, and the problem was back. I did that about 20 times over 2 days, so it wasn’t a one time thing. So again, try the method I posted earlier and who knows... Maybe it helps you!

Yea, wish that worked for me, never does.

I did Reset All Settings and it was good for one charge cycle. Next time I went to 100, it happened again.
