This is so stupid. If you wear gloves, you can’t use Touch ID. If you cover your face, you can’t use Face ID. It’s that simple. If you cover your eyes, the whole freaking phone can’t be used.

Apple is surely doomed.

Most Apple device will sell at this point though. Apple market their products amazingly. It’s not directly comparable but yeah I get what you mean.

People are so excited and I can not blame them. I even had a X on order but cancelled when I realized that I would have to give up the big keyboard that is on my 8+. No way I will go back to a small keyboard, a deal breaker for me.

I'm disappointed. I was waiting for him to put on eyeliner and eyeshadow. I imagine wigs would probably throw it off, though.

What do you do if you want to hand your phone to your spouse or your child to use?

I’m saying it’s not going to work in situations like this. So if one is at a fancy dress party then they need to use passcode.
As it should be.

Still unclear as to the point of this thread. It’s like saying, “TouchID doesn’t work with gloves on!”

Yeah unfortunately it seems this forum is currently infested with people who'll yell at you for daring to suggest their beloved $1k+ phone isn't akin to the second coming. Bizarre mentality. What's wrong with accepting a few flaws? It's hardly surprising.

Probably because most of us don’t really see the fact that FaceID can’t recognise your face when it’s covered as a flaw? And I don’t see any yelling in this thread...sarcastic comments maybe.

I’m loving my move to the plus model to be honest. My main issue was to carry it around and for it to fit my jeans but the phone seems to be doing well so far. Although one handed usage is really where I have major issues with. But I knew that before buying it. I guess the trade off was against the dual camera system and I chose the camera over one handed usability.

Nothing more important than having a good keyboard for me.

I will keep in mind if I make myself look like a completely different person (which is never) my Face ID will not work.

Seems to me this is a pro in showing how accurate/in tune Face ID is.

It is clear it can keep up with gradual changes, so maybe just add a little bit of fancy dress party makeup everyday until the event by which time it will recognize you ;)

Ahhh let me think .......oh I know, turn off auto lock feature before giving kids your $1,000 iPhone. Like what could possibly go wrong?

“Mom...I did a drop test like on you tube from my upstairs bedroom window to driveway. And now phone won’t work right”

My understanding is changing hairstyles should not throw it up (if you keep it up, down, etc), nor would hats, toques, etc so I am not sure why a wig would throw it off. It is Face ID, not Hairstyle ID.

I don't have children, and my spouse knows not to mess with my electronics (until I of course decide to upgrade and he gets my old models ;))

Seriously though, you can still turn on the phone with a pass code if it does not recognize a face. So give them the pass code if you are comfortable with them using your phone.

Um, that isn't makeup. He was putting on massive glasses that completely obscured his eyes and crazy moustaches that covered his entire face. Makeup will have no effect on FaceID, as it uses infrared to "see." Makeup will only change readings on the visible light spectrum.

will you buy an iPhone X or future iPhone iterations?

I’d much rather be able to cheat Face ID into failing than to cheat it into working. Someone wake me up when some hipster doofus uploads that video.
