Mine definitely gets hot pretty easily. Not warm, hot. It’s concentrated in the area right below the rear camera.

This is exactly what happens with mine. Only the area between and around the Apple logo and rear camera gets hot. The rest of the phone is very cool. I think there is something wrong. Literally concentrated right bellow the rear camera and to the left of the Apple logo. Not even to the right of the rear camera is warm...

Two days ago I put my hand in my bag to take the X out and it was so hot I almost dropped it. I hadn’t used it at all for almost 3 hours.

Once it had cooled down I was able to use it normally and it hasn’t heated up again since.

I don’t think it can have been left on while in my bag - I turned it off beforehand plus the screen is set to turn off after 30 seconds. It couldn’t have turned itself on without Face ID either.

Bit worrying that it can become that hot when not in use or being charged. I also wonder what would have happened if I hadn’t taken it out of my bag when I did.

Got an appointment to take it in to Apple tomorrow. In the meantime I’m keeping an eye on it.

It’s does get warm or hot very quickly. If I’m listing to music via airplay and surfing the web it gets hot. I think this is normal, the performance of the phone isn’t affected.

My phone also gets hot in the area below the rear camera and around the Apple logo. This has happened the most when I used FaceTime for 10 min and Pandora for about 20.

Does this has to do with the cold temperature issue what was patched in 11.2?

Should be obvious that's where the CPU is located - right below the camera (orange below). Apple packed everything into one small corner. The glass chassis doesn't dissipate heat well. So the phone is expected to have a big hot spot.

Benchmarks show the phone will throttle and reduce processor speed if it becomes too hot.

I would suggest using without a case as this kind of heat will damage the battery for sure, if not other components.

The screen on my iPhone X gets extremely hot after 15 to 20 minutes of usage. So hot that the screen temporarily dims, actually. Yes, it’s on max brightness... but so is every other iPhone (LCD) I’ve ever used, along with the Galaxy S8 (OLED) I had for a while. None of those phones ever had a screen that got noticeably warmer than the rest of the phone.

For what it’s worth, the backside of my X is still cool to the touch at all times.

Just got my iPhone, the first thing I noticed was something like an electric leak in the back, it was a bit sizzling to the touch

Using it a bit, it's probably hotness from the CPU zone, hoping it will fade away once things settle in

Hi!

I noticed that the back of my iPhone X gets hot pretty fast. As soon as I start to do stuff on it, its a matter of seconds before it gets quite hot.

Anybody else experiencing that?

I guess it’s normal since all the materials are conductive (glass, steel), but still.

Tx!

I just received my iPhone X 256. It's now getting all data from iCloud and it gets very warm, mainly just below the camera on the back, but the whole thing is much warmer than before. I'll check after a couple of hours, but if this continues, I'll send it back.

I don't like Samsung products, I hate them, I hated the company beforehand, but I made the misguided decision to use Samsung products mainly as a high amount of consumers does, my logic was that, if the apps I developed worked on ****** Samsung products, they should work on every device out there, while the assumption was true, targeting all devices wasn't logical, long story short, I came from a Samsung S4

In comparison, the iPhone X almost leaks electrons

If I play Fruit Ninja for 1 hour, I lose 30% of the battery, and the device heats up to extremes

I don't think it's acceptable, but I do believe it's the norm with iPhone's, I've asked around a bit, it seems every iPhone user is used to heating - the solution is obviously to not use the device, if you don't use any apps, there is no heating, and the battery life is pretty good

Having experienced this recently: https://apple.stackexchange.com/que...ok-swollen-after-high-sierra-what-should-i-do , with just an OS update, I consider myself an idiot for still using Apple products, many Apple haters call Apple product users iDiots, which is pretty demotivating, yet with some recent experiences, I do feel like an idiot now - I think my iPhone X will share the same fate once the warranty is up
[doublepost=1513863486][/doublepost]It's probably not the ideal test app, but I would be glad if someone can play "Fruit Ninja" for 30 minutes and report the results in terms of heating and battery usage, for the sake of benchmarking

If only some devices are affected with heating issues, I would also like to return the product and retry

My X feels warm with a quick charger. Will try an iPhone 8+ to see if something similar does happen to me on that one too.

When using my Qi pad it does get noticeably warmer.

My iPhone 7+ got red hot when using computing power extensive apps.

Remember folks we just got these phones and have a hard time putting them down. It’s like a new car - we drive them around the block a few times and use them more than usual.

Also glass is a terrible insulator; so any heat inside the phone will escape out faster and not be retained inside.

Well I for one sure would not buy a new car and let it be defective right out the box. People like you are what cause the problem but not admitting there iphone could have a fault and be DOA

I for sure wont be paying $1k for a phone that is fatally out the box like a Samsung was if mines heats up any warmer I will be seeking to return it as others should to

Following the thread to see if this will be the second "issue" with iPhones in the last 3 months.
Like throttling has become.

What are you talking about? "People like me...?"

If you actually read what I wrote before being defensive you'd understand what I was trying to convey to you - the first week upon purchasing a new iPhone I always notice poor battery life and the phone being warmer due to me using it almost constantly since it's a shiny new toy; that was my comparison to a vehicle.

I'm not sure if there's a language barrier or something in which you didn't understand my statement.

So...

I attended 3 concerts over the weekend in Colorado, all three were indoors at a large venue that wasn't exactly all that warm inside.

I shot a handful of photos + videos throughout the night and not only did my phone get quite hot, it also lagged to the point of being nearly unusable a few times when it was heated up. I'm talking like 5-10 FPS animations, etc.

I did a benchmark using Geekbench during this time that the phone was running hot/laggy and compared it to one from earlier in the day when my phone hadn't really been used for long, you can see the results...

I'm going to do a full restore and see if that helps, otherwise I might setup a Genius Bar appt. I've shot photos/videos at dozens of concerts since I got it in November and not had this issue (although I have had it heat up a few times to the point of it disabling the flash (mind you, I live in Minnesota... not exactly a warm climate in the winter.).

I had the iPhone 8 from launch day until November 4th when I got the X, used it a TON in Vietnam in October in a very hot/humid climate and never once did I have these overheating issues (nor did my wife who also has an 8).

Very much looking forward to your results.

[doublepost=1515118576][/doublepost]I am experiencing the same exact thing ... it started when I got the most recent Download iOS ... before that I never had this problem

yup my iphone 7+ and my X also has this issue but my X is more aggresive and its being throttled even when it get a little warm.dont expect to get high benchmark score when you use phone esp. gaming.iphone X is slower than even on my iphone 7+ i only get 2.06 ghz on idle on my X compare to 2.34ghz on my 7+ maybe because the fact that it get hot way faster compared to previous iphones
