When you have compared all of the phones with ALL combinations of use, then come back and show us. 10 hours of use for you will be far different from 10 hours of use for me. Playing video or looking at pictures will be far different to looking at text messages. Every individual is different, and while I accept a variance in battery quality, when it comes down to it, the rate and frequency at which people charge their phones, and how they use their phones will have a far greater impact on battery life. Some will find their plus is better, some the X better. Both are right. If you want to be pedantic, the iPhone X has, FACT, a bigger batter than the 8 plus, but not the 7 plus.
 
For anyone claiming 8 hours of battery on their X is SO GREAT!!!

Take a look at what my 3 year old 6 Plus did in it's prime every day...

I mean, I’m pretty happy with the battery life on my X, but why do some people feel the need to make posts just to say “my phone is the best” and argue until everyone agrees? If you are happy with it, good for you. Other people’s mileage may vary.

When I would rotate between four different Android phones, I essentially got around the same battery life. That's usually the typical 4 hr to 6 hr SOT with data on and GPS on or Wi-Fi hotspot. I stopped caring if one is 30 min more during the day.

These battery tests aren't really realistic to what we do in real life similar to PhoneBuff's opening a ton of apps to test RAM management. If I wanted, I could get 8-10+ hr SOT just by reading an e-book, playing videos all day, or browsing on Opera mini all day with brightness at 30-35%.

That's not how the real world works for me and not every day. My days of 10+ hr SOT are over since working in direct sunlight requires brightness to be 75-100% sometimes. I wouldn't be too concerned if 8 Plus is 30-45 min worse than X. Now if 2+ hrs, yes.

Just enjoy your phone and keep it topped off because going below 20% isn't very healthy. That's why I stopped caring testing SOT and watching the battery % indicator like a hawk since I do charge it up whether it reaches 20% or 60%. We aren't supposed to drain it all the way to 0% in the first place.

Battery % are also calibrated differently. iPhones tends to drain slower early on before draining faster below 50%. From my experience, it takes quite awhile to go from 100% to 99% with iPhone. Like a 30+ min SOT. By the 20%, it spirals. While Pixel will get to 99% in a couple mins or in 15 min standby.

Just relax. Top it off. Don't trip on a 1 hr SOT difference.

I had the IPhone 7 Plus and the X definitely has better battery life for me, could you guys be using the phone more than usual because it’s new and your trying all the new features.

Shoddy tests.
during the Music section they keep the iPhone X on a white background while other Android devices had a white background.

The plus users in denial still won't believe you that your physically smaller, more comfortable phone with bigger battery CAN be better in terms of battery life.

Almost a week in it honestly doesn’t seem any better or worse than my 6S+ (which was only a few months old).
The first few days I was rinsing the Animoji and AR at full brightness so that took a toll, but as I’ve gone back to more normal usage it’s pretty much the same. Big win for me.
 
Rather sweeping statement. Based on what? Your use as a "power user"? What defines a power user - somebody who spends all day every day on social media glued to their screen? That's not power, that's addiction.

Bottom line is, the X has a bigger battery than the plus, and a more efficient screen on the average. So, it all comes down to what you use and how often.

Then factor in the variation of usage? Of course they're close with the X sometimes showing better battery - and not because it's not being used normally, or there's some kind of "fake" battery results.

I don't believe the OLED is as efficient as the rest of the OLED panels on the market... If it is then I think the true depth system is what's destroying the battery because it literally is always on when you're using the phone. Don't believe me? Go look at some of the early reviews, you can see the IR lights going nonstop.

All these tests show only one thing: the X gets throttled due to the heat, so its processor slows down, hence it survives the tests better than the 8 Plus. However, it’s also a good indicator that in real life the X handles processor intensive apps better as well in terms of battery life.

I'd say throttling due to heat isn't a good thing unless you want the processor to slow down thus saving battery life. More of a design flaw, rather than a good feature or pro of the X.
 
In my day-to-day usage so far, the iPhone X has had slightly worse battery life than my iPhone 8 Plus.

With my typical usage I would usually go to sleep with 50% remaining on my 8 Plus. With my X it's around 35-40%.

Battery would go down by about 8% for every usage hour on the 8 Plus, and about 10% for the same usage hour on the X.

Both have excellent batteries. I just found the 8 Plus to last *slightly* longer, for whatever reason.

Funny, your post is the first I've seen "1%1%1%1%1%1%1%1%1%1%1%1%1%1%1%" written, but OK. People showing pictures of 1% is meaningless. But a list of 1% which means it's fake stats by playing back music and never used their phone for anything else. Apple says 60+ hours of music playback. Notice you can't see their most used apps which will show some kind of audio playback app using a large portion of battery.

Yeah if their list of apps shows 1% down the line that means they literally did not use their phone and let it play music for 13 hours just to show that their battery lasted that long. When in fact it didn't because the biggest battery hog (the screen) was off the entire ****ing time.
 
damn that X is the + killer. it's superior in every way. those battery tests aren't even close. as people called it the guinea pig phone but now it seems like it's the most refined iphone ever.

It’s a smaller phone. All the regular iPhones, non-Plus models, are the same.
It’s the way heat dissipates.
The A11 is a beast, so a little throttling would not affect the overall performance. If it helps preserve the battery a little, I’m in.

As a general rule you don't want your chip to throttle due to heat though. That's a bad sign and will lead to failure eventually.
 
If I remember correctly in a previous post, I believe he gets those numbers by having Background App Refresh off.

On or off it never made a difference to me... All I see is 1% 1% 1% 1% 1% 1% 1% 1% 1% 1% 1% 1% 1% 1% 1% down the list but you can't see their most used apps, so that means they fakes those numbers by playing back music and never used their phone for anything else since music playback increases usage time but uses very little power.

Yeah great, still needs charging every day though right? = no better in daily life. Why did you swap to something inferior then if it was so good?
