Also happens to the Lightning port: lint got in it, making it difficult to plug in the charger. And the more you press on the connector, the more the lint gets impacted and difficult to get the connector in (good idea to blow some canned air into the port every now and then).
Aside from sand, coins, maybe rivets in the jeans pockets, can't see how the rear pocket will scratch up the phone, as denim is just cotton, cotton thread for details/seams. That said, like others, one pocket (front left) is dedicated to phone usage, nothing else goes into it. Have not had any scratches over the years.
I to wondered this but I’m wondering if the bottom of my phone will get scratched from my front pocket. I have a space grey X with a glass screen protector. Just wondering since the bottom is exposed from my Apple leather case..
Yeah I think the silver will scratch a lot easier but can be taken out with some polish. Where the space grey doesn’t scratch as easy but if it does then you can’t remove them.I have the Apple leather case that exposes the bottom and after about a month in my pocket I can see no scratches or other imperfections under normal light on my silver X. However, in bright direct sunlight I can now see glinty marks but you really have to look for them. They aren't on the protected parts of the shiny band. I don't know what it is about fabric that causes those marks but I'm ok with them. I bet your space grey will hold up much better in this regard.
I always put my iPhone in my pocket with the display facing my leg. Basically covers the screen, which actually is very good for my peace of mind. Because there's many times where someone bumps into me against my leg, and then I'm kinda afraid something happened to my iPhone.
Just remove the built up lint and general stuff with a small needle
Or a blast of canned air, a soft bristle toothbrush, or the brush side of a lens pen.

I have a weird line towards the bottom of my iPhone XR screen. It’s really annoying. I used some water and a piece of toilet paper. It goes away, but then it comes back a few mins layers. I keep my phone in my back pocket with nothing else in it. There is a button on in my pocket to close it, but I don’t think that’s the issue. If it was a scratch I don’t feel like it’d disappear then come back. Anyone have any suggestions? Like, it’s really really frustrating. Phone is brand new. I had one about 4 months in it got stolen on the subway. This is a replacement through the insurance. But when I received it this was def not there. It doesn’t really affect it but when the phone is off and the screen black it’s super visible and annoying. I have no idea what it is but really want it to go away already. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys
Yes I will take a pic with my buddies phone and send it ASAP. Thanks for the reply. I don’t have a screen protector on as it seems to not help with much as all. I’ve dropped two phones with one on and on both the screen cracked. All the research I’ve done says a screen protector is not really worth the $30-$45. Anyway, I’ll upload the pic as soon as I can. Thanks again. ✌Any way to get us a image?

This mark is frustrating. I thought maybe it was condensation under the screen somehow. When I wipe it with a microfiber cloth and a dab of water it goes awa, but it just keeps coming back. Very noticeable on black screens. Not so much on whiter screens. I’m super anal about this stuff esp since this phone is less than two weeks old (my previous one was stolen so this was sent by the insurance company. But I checked the model code and it’s a brand new phone not refurbished, and the screen was perfect when I got it) I’ve googled and looked everywhere and can’t find any info on something like this. I think my only option is to take it to an apple store, which thankfully isn’t a huge deal since I’m in NYC. however I’m not paying a freaking dime. Wondering if I can somehow get a free new one through insurance and say this one is defective. It’s so weird tho I thought it might have also been just a smudge. But like I said it disappears and always comes back. Can’t see it in the dark but I work outside and in the sunlight it’s the most annoying thing ever. It’s actually seriously pissing me off. I take care of my phones cuz I love them, however this is now the 5th iPhone I’ve had some type of screen issue with. I feel like I’m being pushed back to Samsung. Again, with it being so damn new, I’m stuck with it for a minimum of two more years, more likely 3...everything else is totally fine on the phone. The mark is almost a straight line near the bottom of the phone. I forgot to take a pic with my buddies phone last night, I will when I get home tonight. This is so frustrating. Thanks for the replies guys. I’m new to this forum. Think I’ll stick around for a bit see if I can be of help to someone else as I’m pretty well versed in the new phones. However I’ve never ever seen anything like this ever. This is my luck in a nutshell lol. Talk soon guys.I get what you mean, I’d never spend $30-$45 on a screen protector either. I use cheap glass ones from Amazon for under $10 and get 3 or 4 in a pack. I don’t expect them to do much in the event of a drop, more for keeping the screen scratch free.
