I've been using the iPhone 7 in shower everyday since released, not a problem. iPhone X is in the shower playing podcasts everyday too, not a problem.

I have AppleCare+, so I don't worry. YMMV.

Me too. I know this thread was awhile ago, but I just stumbled across it. I used my 7 to both watch Netflix, listen to podcasts and even take the occasional call or send the occasional text. When it was wet I did have trouble with clicking on the screen, but I just dried it off and it was fine no long term damage! I’ve been doing the same with my X since almost 4 months now and its fine. I don’t stick it directly under the water but on a little shelf to watch Netflix and if I’m on it I don’t hold it under the water bc of the issues wirh typing. I can’t say for sure, but in my personal experience it’s fine but I don’t know about submerging it. I did drop it in the bath once, but I pick it up and dried it off immediately.

Just my personal experience :)

Hi all,

I was wondering about how real the waterproofing of the iPhone X is. Specifically, has anyone had any experience with taking the iPhone X into the shower? Is it alright in there? I have seen the iPhone X extreme water tests on YouTube but I wanted to know specifically whether the iPhone X is okay to take into the shower once or twice per day, every day? For example is there long term damage if you do so? Submerge it in water every day?

Also, in the event that there were to be damage to the iPhone X in the shower as a result of water, would Apple replace it in warranty? Shouldn't Apple help you outside warranty too, because they said that it is good with water? Asking this because of the uproar when the iPhone 7 was released. Apple had said that the iPhone 7 is waterproof but they will not be covering any water related damage to the iPhone 7 as part of warranty, which was very contradictory.

Also, does anyone know how the iPhone X fares when in contact with liquid shower gel, or bars of soap and other shower related items?

Thank you!
DO NOT DO IT MY PHONE IS ****ED ISTG IM PISSED ASF.

Thank you!

It was more of a 'if I can do it, I will, because why not?' Thank you very much for an incredibly detailed reply!

I have no idea why a shower needs a phone. There are a few activities that shouldn’t require a phone. Bathing should be one of them.

How long are you really in there??? Isn’t it already long enough??? Do you really need to make it longer by texting or browsing the Internet???

If you must talk, put it on speaker.

If you want it for less wholesome purposes... well... best of luck to you. Don’t expect Apple to warranty DNA removal.

He asked if it was safe, not for an amateur psych evaluation. I’m a hospital-based physician, and if my phone rings while I’m on call, I have to answer it whether I’m showering or at the pool. Doesn’t mean I have a device addiction.

In my personal experience (which is what I believe he asked for), I have answered the phone in the shower, spoken for a few minutes without the shower stream directly hitting the device, and my iPhone X still works perfectly fine. I try not to use it by the pool without drying my hands, because I’m concerned about exposing it to chlorine, but I have on occasions when I had no choice. Again, no problems.

Since water damage is not covered by the warranty, water exposure is AYOR. But occasional exposure to water and steam has not been a problem for me.

Yes, some people do. Then there are others like me, a hospital-based physician, who has to answer my phone when I’m on call even if I’m at the bathroom stall at a ballgame or a concert. Some people use devices for work purposes, which does not mean that they consume our lives. You don’t know why the OP was asking, but your point is certainly valid and insightful in a general sense. I just don’t think that the OP was asking for a life coach :/
Oh my gosh, thaaaank you.
And even if it WAS something as simple as wanting to listen to music...still.
This is why I don’t interent.

I use mine in the shower.

As for the folks asking “why would you do that!?” in this thread, I’m a writer. The best dialogue & plot twists sneak up when you are least able to write them down... (& I became tired of yelling at Siri over the noise of the shower).

I’ve had no issues with the X, but it wouldn’t hold it under the showerhead or anything—and keep it away from soap.
True! And now if they would just invent something to save the thoughts out of our brains when we’re about to fall asleep.

Sidenote about Apple warranty: I see why many would think it contradictory that Apple does not cover water damage-related issues though there are specs claiming water resistance. However, because there is no way to tell the conditions in which a phone took on water damage, it makes sense that they would not assume liability for this. (They would have to treat a phone that got splashed the same as a phone someone went whitewater rafting with.) If they covered water damage under warranty, it would have be inclusive of all water damage—including damage done in conditions outside of their specs (i.e. at greater depths, extreme temperatures, chemicals, etc.).

Anywho, I digress. I’m gonna go shower now...and I think I’ll take my X this time. No judgment.

iPhone X still has Water Censors inside
This means that Apple can probably determine the water penetration
Will they replace after you use it in the shower with soap and stream and water splashing on it........don’t think so

I took my 7s plus (in the ocean) and it was fine when the camera got repaired. Same with my 8plus when I got the cracked screen repaired. I took it in the water. Both during vacation. Hasn’t been an issued. Water resistance held up and I got some great ass pics.

Just because the iPhone is water resistant to some degree now I have no desire to shower with it.

I don’t care what water resistant Rating a phone has, I have _no_ desire to mix my like elecronics around water. It’s just a general rule that electronics and water don’t react well with each other, and water resistant ratings will never be a guarantee for electronics to survive anything, and I also don’t have any desire to bring my phone in the shower, my phone isn’t that important to me.
