People keep forgetting this but the XR is basically a Max with a slightly smaller LCD screen, and the 2X lens removed. In other words, the XR shows the exact same amount of information as the Max but with a reduced screen size.

Both the XR and Max show significantly more on-screen information than the X/XS.

Also, both the XR and Max support zoomed display mode if that matters to you. The X/XS does not.

And not to forget the amazing battery life of the XR which trumps every iPhone ever build...That is worth more than any second or third camera or OLED display to me....The best featured phone is worthless with a dead battery.

I’m just glad there’s people who actually realize that the Xʀ is actually a better phone than the iPhone X. Wouldn’t believe the people I have argued this point with.

A lot of people want to make it OLED vs LCD, but there’s so much more too it. The only things the X has over the Xʀ is the OLED, 3DTouch and a telephoto lens. However even with the telephoto lens in the X .. the Xʀ still has the better camera. Then 3DTouch is a subjective thing. There’s rumors going around that none of the new iPhones will have the feature. Then of course the OLED and stainless steel build.

With the Xʀ however you get better battery life, bigger screen, better camera, better GPU and better SoC.

I’ve noticed a lot of people who had bought the X in August or September trying to justify there purchases and having a hard time admitting they could’ve just waited and gotten the Xʀ for $250 cheaper. I’m sorry to those X owners who try and believe and hope that a 2017 phone is “better” than an iPhone that came after the X did. Just because it’s $250 cheaper doesn’t make it a worse device. It’s makes it a bit more “consumer” friendly. With the Xʀ you get 93% of the XS Max features at 72% of the cost...

Trust me I’m one of those people. I own an iPhone X, Xʀ and XS Max. To be honest since October 26th I have used my Max less than 5 times ...

All these true-to-heart posts about XR.. making me think again about XR than to X !!

I would never use a phone with just 720p compatibility on YouTube, Netflix or other media sources. Also the difference between OLED and LCD on blacks is very noticeable. I do have a iPhone X and very happy with that phone.

that means upcoming dark mode feature, if it comes to iOS would look better on oled iPhones !!

Just get something that will hold you over until September. Personally, I don’t upgrade that often but decided that now was a good time to get rid of my iPhone 7. If I didn’t need an improved camera immediately for baby photos, I would have kept the iPhone 7 until September. I had even replaced the battery in December to make sure that I could wait.

Then I tried out an iPhone X from eBay and really liked it but the screen broke. So I sent it back and traded in the iPhone 7 on a brand new iPhone XS at the Apple store. Then I saw an open box iPhone X at BestBuy. Bought it, returned the iPhone XS, and saved $400 in the process.

I would never buy an XR no matter the price. It’s heavy, ugly, and has a terrible screen. Doesn’t have all the tech from the XS either such as better water resistance and Gigabit LTE. Apple discontinued the iPhone X because it would undercut all 2018 iPhones, not because it sucks. Use your critical thinking skills XR lovers!

What an absolute load of drivel.

You and I started out the same way, and ended up with different conclusions. I was basically happy with my 7, having replaced the battery in December. But a couple of months ago, I decided to upgrade anyway, in large part because I wanted the new camera with Smart HDR (not for baby pics, but for kid pics). Briefly used an X I borrowed from work. I liked it, but the X only going to be a temporary arrangement. While I had the X, I played with the XR, XS, and XS Max a few times, trying to decide which way I wanted to go.

Eventually, I settled on the XR, because it seemed to have the best combination of features I cared about: display size, battery life, camera, speed. The telephoto lens is nice, but I figured I could live without it. And despite all the gnashing of teeth over the XR's "terrible" 828p LCD - it honestly looked about as good to me as the X/XS models. I could tell the difference in blacks, and under careful scrutiny I could detect the lower resolution in text. But I think in day-to-day use, I'm pretty sure I'd never really notice the difference.

And the battery life! I've seen it mentioned a couple times in this thread, but it deserves more attention. I've always been a battery hog, and this XR advantage was huge for me.

My analysis was rendered moot when I learned I could get a deal on the XS Max through my company. Ended up being nearly the same price as the XR. So, that's what I have, and I like it. But I definitely would've chosen the XR had I not been able to avail myself of that deal. I would've loved that battery life.

I went from x to xr and like it better no more headaches

If there was one thing I learned with the iPhone X/XS with the OLED panel, was the amount of people, (more specifically forum members) that suffered from PWM. I didn’t realize how much of an issue this really was until dozens, if not hundreds of forum members who suffer from PWM. So in some respects, I’m glad the Apple still manufactures LCD panels for those reasons alone, who still want a new model iPhone with the latest specifications, but don’t have to deal with the side effects from PWM due to the OLED panel

Posts like this are helping me make my decision in terms of chopping my X in for and XR in a couple of weeks rather than holding out till September haha

See, I’ve compared my X and my wife’s XR, on full, medium and low brightness and the blacks are virtually the same. If you didn’t have the two next to each other, you probably wouldn’t even notice

Really.. ? Try a full black background, oled clearly wins, with LCD whole screen is lit with backlight to produce black color..

Yup. LCD can’t compete with OLED with blacks, namely because each pixel can be turned off individually with OLED, giving it that ‘true black look’. There’s a huge difference between black on LCD and OLED, and OLED is easily favored.

Well I went from a 6S to the XR, I’ve kinda got used to it. Not saying if they launch a new decent spec SE2 in a smaller size I wouldn’t get one! But you do get used to the size.

Me too. I actually bought the XR, then returned it and went back to my 6s because I thought the XR was too big and heavy. The XS was not a contender because I will NOT spend $1000+ on a phone, under any circumstances. The problem was, I really missed the bigger screen of the XR (I often have to read lengthy documents), wireless charging, stereo speakers, after speed, excellent battery life, the eSim, etc. So I grabbed another XR while Apple was still willing to give me $200 in trade-in for my 6s. I have now gotten used to the XR and love it, the same way I got used to the bigger 6s ever the 5s.

That's true, but who cares. I would care if I was buying a 65 inch TV (which you can buy now for the price of an iPhone XS), not a 6 inch phone. And while I can see the difference between my son's X screen and my XR side-by-side, there has not been a single instance where I have been disappointed in the XR's screen.

My last three iPhones have been 6+, 7 and XR.

I love the battery life, performance and size. The only time I even notice the low-res screen is when I'm comparing it to an XS side by side. And even then, the slightly bigger bezel is more noticeable than the lower resolution.

Tap and hold replaces 3D Touch 99% of the time, to the point where you can't even tell the difference between the two. The only thing I miss is the speed dial popup when you 3D touch the phone icon.

One annoyance that I assume goes for all the Face ID phones is that it's easy to accidentally take screenshots when pressing the power button, at least with the plastic case I'm currently using because it takes more force than normal to press the side buttons.

I went to store yesterday and XR was still huge compared to XS. Only downside is that its too broad.. although i can live with how long it is.

XS had a real good grip in the hand.. g l u e d !!

Now, i am in dire need of an iPhone.. XS is still 999 unlocked and new one is due in 5 months. Should i wait for new one ? or get the X now (749 from bestbuy) ?

I work 12 hour shifts and have yet had to charge my Xr at work. My 6s with a new apple battery would need charged about 9-10 hrs into a shift. Also after 6 months of owning my Xr, my battery health still shows 100%

Yes my job has alot of down time, and working nights, the phone helps me stay alert.

You will get used to the size difference in no time. I thought same thing at first, now I couldn't go back to smaller phone.

My wife likes her XR. It was quite a step up from the the iphone 7 it replaced. She even likes face id and is saying how easy gestures are to use.

However, in today's day and age, there is no reason for dead battery. Options abound from small battery packs to solar powered charging. All one has to do is carry around a lightning cable. Many places either have usb ports or wireless charge pads. In my company, every desk, every conference room has charging options.

Yes, that is true but it gives you so much comfort and relaxation not to think about charging having the XR...Often I did not charge the XR the whole weekend which is very nice....

I guess I’m unusual as I work in the real world - some people know it as the “outdoors”. I’m often in a Forest or along the coast where, when there is signal, it’s iffy to say the least and as such will drain my battery faster than usual.

I have carried battery packs and solar chargers etc before but it’s a pain in the butt to fiddle with this stuff in the rain or in a howling force 9 gale. And it’s something else that can and has gone wrong. I’m often out on my own too and if something unfortunate happens a phone can be a life saver. It’s not quite the same as discovering a dead battery at ones office desk.

Out of all of this the most useful thing that I have is an Apple Watch. Really useful and convenient when you are out in the real world :)

You mean the natural world? By saying the ‘real world’ it sounds like those of us working in towns and cities are unusual lol.
