I think it just says screen down because it will trip the proximity sensor and turn the screen off.

I use the sleep cycle app which requires the phone to be placed face down. I really wish sleep cycle would change this now that iPhones have wireless charging.

Sleep cycle will still work when you turn the display off, allowing you to lay the phone down facing up.
[doublepost=1510495815][/doublepost]You might want to turn the screen off anyway because sleep cycle app will turn off but the home bar at the bottom stays on which will cause oled burn in eventually.

I was not aware that I was arguing, even after going back and reading.

Try to be calm as other people have opinions, too! I did say all people are different!

I am sure my TV has warped my mind and body because I have been doing it all my life!

I can see why you might be skeptical. I am in the same boat as the OP. I put my iPhone face down on the bed stand as the light from notifications really can wake me. Being a light sleeper sucks!

I use a mechanical white noise device which helps a lot. Leaving the TV on generates constant visual white noise; different from the occasional light from notifications.

Was this post about sleeping? :)

I ordered a stand up wireless charger for my X so I can face the screen away. Should probably try scheduled DND too...

I am sorry if I sounded skeptical as I could sleep though a train wreck. My volume on my phone is loud enough for me to hear it if awake, but not so loud that it would wake me up. As far as a light in the room, I have several including a 42” LCD TV with the volume a normal levels for the room.

For those who can not sleep because of the light on the charging stand, maybe toss a towel over it so it remains close by and yet you can still get to it.

I am sorry but it is hard to believe, but all people are different.

I run the HD TV all night and sleep very well. It is my "white noise"

I find that hard to believe. I couldn’t possibly sleep with a TV on.

See what I did there?

And also I would wake up if my phone lit the room up in the middle of the night.

Guess what? Not everyone is the same as you. Crazy idea, right?

Anyone get an answer from sleep cycle? I lock my screen but still lay it face down. But if it uses the microphone, then fade up should be absolutely fine?

I've used it face up and seems to work fine. Just try it out one day over the weekend and see how it goes.

Just to add a statistical data point - I get woken up by light as well. So I leave my iPhone on DND during the night, as I always have since the feature exists. No problem in remembering to turn it back off.

Back when there wasn't DND, I would have to set the phone to mute and disable vibrations. A single vibration from a text message would wake me up. Yes, I sleep that lightly.

In the morning, I could very well use a single "beep" as my alarm clock ringtone and it would wake me up. Back in the times when I had a real radio as an alarm clock, the "click" the tape mechanism would make was waking me up as well, even before the actual radio went off

I know someone that has to put their alarm clock face down. The dim LED lights wake her. Same with the tiny light from the Comcast X1 cable box. Tapes over it. Crazy. Lol. Me? I sleep with TV on. Fan on. And volume at a good volume.

tried my nokia charger out last night. Seems to charge iphone X fine, and Sleep Cycle seems to still work ok - will check it over a few days to make sure it isn't give me odd results.

Much more convenient and neater than a dangling lightning cable.

Just got the Ravpower wireless charger yesterday and it does work with phone face down and charger placed on back.

Doesn't work, shouldn't work, and wouldn't use like that even if it did. If enabling/disabling DnD is a hassle, there are bigger problems afoot.

[MOD NOTE]
Lets get back on topic, this thread is not about TVs and white noise, but rather the iPhone and charging it.

You can set a schedule for DND.. I use it when I'm on night shift. You can even set so that important contacts can still get through. Like in an emergency.

This is the answer. DND is designed for this very reason. I use it every night.

ninjahaiku - thanks for testing.
iPhone_X - I was hoping to place the X on my nightstand face down on a Qi pad at night. When face up, if notifications come in the screen turns on and the light sometimes wakes me up. I don't want the hassle of activating Do Not Distrurb because I sometimes forget to turn it off. Looks like I'll be charging with a lightning cable after all.
Do not disturb mode has a schedule function.

Ha, I was just coming to comment on that app specifically.

I am sure they will release an update that will just turn off the display when the alarm is active.

Have either of you already tried the Sleep Cycle app with the wireless charger?

I have not used with wireless charger but there's no reason why it wouldn't work. I use it facing up with no problems. Just press the sleep/wake button after you start it and the screen shuts off and everything works fine.

Most of these replies are ridiculous, the question was simple: can iphone x wireless charge face down? The issue is also relevant for people who use pop-up phone holders (pop sockets) and ring-type grips on the back of their iphone x or iphone x's case.

The issue is not about OP's use of DND, nor ability to sleep through occasional notification lights.

It was answered in the mix. You cannot charge using wireless/Qi from the front of the phone.

This is why I bought a wireless charging stand instead of a pad. I can charge the iPhone while it's facing me if I want to, or I can turn it the opposite direction. Maybe scheduling DnD mode will help?
