I think it just says screen down because it will trip the proximity sensor and turn the screen off.

I was wondering the same thing because of how I use my phone in the car. I have a simple, magnetic holder in my dashboard vent that nicely holds my phone. I have an Apple silicon case and while the wireless charging does work with the case on, I have a piece of metal tucked between the case and the phone to give the magnet something to grab onto. And this piece of metal blocks the charging. I like my car holder so much I might give up on wireless charging altogether since I don’t want to have to remove my case to charge.

Same here. No wireless charging because magnetic mounts master race.

Also, Sleep Cycle works fine facing up, and now it even turns off the screen completely in that position, so no issues at all.

ninjahaiku - thanks for testing.
iPhone_X - I was hoping to place the X on my nightstand face down on a Qi pad at night. When face up, if notifications come in the screen turns on and the light sometimes wakes me up. I don't want the hassle of activating Do Not Distrurb because I sometimes forget to turn it off. Looks like I'll be charging with a lightning cable after all.
How bout u place your phone facing down and place the charger upside down on the phone? Should work

Can somebody test this -- will your new iPhone X charge while face down on a Qi charging pad?

Another reason, for me, having nothing to do with the light from the screen, is that I have a ring on my case that prevents wireless charging. I am left with the options of: a different case, take it out of the case to charge, or use the wire to charge.

Is there a reason you need this? I was wondering if it's because you want to hide the notifications. Supposedly you can't view the details of a notification until you make eye contact with the phone.
[doublepost=1562413764][/doublepost]I know on my iPhone 10 I have a pop socket on the back and the space between the phone and charger is to big

I do always keep my phone face down to prevent being bothered by the light, but the main reason is I use a magnet holder in my car and there’s a metal plate in my case that gets in the way of the charger. Someone cake up with an interesting solution I haven’t tried - a donut shaped metal plate in the case allowing both holding and charging. And the holder for the car actually charges too.

I would never charge my phone face down. If the light wakes you up you need to get a sleeping mask. People who are so sensitive that a tiny bit of light wakes them out of a sleep should be wearing these.
