completely agree. really disappointed in the brightness. holding side by side my 6S and it's no contest. the 6S is much brighter. the X by comparison is dim and dull. I turned 'TruTone' on and off and either setting is considerably darker and dimmer than the 6S. debating switching to a 7 if this is new normal.

I have a 6S and X. Unless yours is faulty, no way in any universe is the 6S brighter or is X dull.

I really don’t understand some of these posts.

Those people just don’t know how to turn off Auto-Brightness on the X lol

I have mine arriving today but went and checked out the X at the Apple Store. I was expecting the OLED screen to pop but it actually looked less "punchy" than my 7 Plus....disappointing for sure...especially when compared to a Note 8.

I checked all the settings and it was set to max brightness. I tried with True Tone on and that did not help either and made it look more yellow. I love True Tone on my iPad but not impressed on the X.

Overall, I was let down by the contrast/brightness for sure.

The 7plus without question, is way brighter than the X. My wife just received hers yesterday, mine was delayed of course. Blah! I tested them out side by side, home screen, safari etc and I noticed my 7plus was way brighter. So I adjusted the settings on both phones equally for brightness and same results. I don’t think it’s a deal breaker, just kinda threw me off too.

Did you turn off Auto-Brightness on the X though?

[doublepost=1512160767][/doublepost]Have you tried checked to make sure the Reduce White Point setting in Display Accommodations (Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations) is turned OFF? For some reason, when I set up my phone, this setting was turned on by default. Turned it off and my screen is now much brighter.

I tried triple-clicking the lock button (to toggle to zoom setting) and literally swore out loud at how bright the display got. Definitely worth a try for people who’ve been fiddling with auto brightness etc. to no avail

Some of us don't want to because you risk bad luminence degregation issues by leaving the brightness up. Auto-Brightness is tucked away because it's now an issue with how quickly static black zones on apps burn in (unoptimized apps in particular).

The X is capable of being comfertably bright, but it's a risk to the luminence uniformity to leave the display that bright.

Good point. Not to mention adding more drain on the battery. Auto Brightness is hidden for a reason!

I had the same problem. Go to zoom, filter, none. Problem solved.

Settings - General- Accessibility - Display Accommodations - Reduce White Point OFF. If it’s not this go to then go to the Apple Store

I had the same problem but now its fixed. try clicking the side button on the right three times. hope it works!

I'm having the same experience. 7+ is nitivrbakg brighter than my X. Don't really see much difference in the screens with the exception of much richer colors in the X. But it's definitely dimmer. No comparison to the note either (I'm using one now). Note 8 has hands down the best screen and it's not even close

I have the same issue, my iPhone X is very dim compared to my old iPad Mini! :-(

Just being honest...still plan on keeping it but it did not Wow me. Curious to hear feedback from others who have actually seen it in person too.
[doublepost=1519334666][/doublepost]I’ve got an X . My girlfriends got an 8 Plus.

And yes I’d have to agree. For what it’s worth when on full her display is noticeably brighter. Interestingly the 8 Plus speakers are also clearly noticeably louder and punchier on full. I’d also have to say the colour reproduction on the 8 plus screen is a little more natural with better hues gradients off the white point. The X’s white and blacks are more contrasted.

Reduce white point is obviously off. Putting brightness to max and cycling through night shift True Tone hers is consistently brighter

Not sure if you figured it out yet but I was seeing exactly the same.. iPhone 6 display better than X.

Not because this is the reality but because Apple has gone to the efforts of building in auto-brightness into the phone.
To fix:
General > Accessibility > Display Accomodations > TURN THAT **** OFF!

Hold your IP6 and IPX next too each other now! Behold.. the iPhone X in all is OLED beauty.
Enjoy!

With brightness turned all the way up, it makes no difference whether auto- brightness is on or off. The brightness is the same. At least it is on my X.

If you disable Auto Brightness on your iPhone X it will be brighter than the 7 Plus.

What exactly is display accommodations and turning that off gives a brighter screen?

Is this doing the samething as below and getting rid of the filter?

How is there a filter?
Think it was applied when device was set up from factory.

THAT FIXED IT!!

Just read up on this. Must be a filter put over the screen for night time mode....

Bigger speakers will always be better. However I find the X speakers to have a better balanced sound and prefer them overall even if 8+ has deeper perceived bass.
X+ should be super impressive in the audio department.
[doublepost=1523324012][/doublepost]The backlight on the LCD display does make the display appear brighter even when it isn’t because the entire display is being illuminated. However the X is technically the same brightness level or even slightly brighter.

[doublepost=1523968009][/doublepost]Disable the setting, “reduce white point” and everthing is bright as it can be.

I was having this same issue, I finally figured it out today
Under the zoom settings when you triple click I had my phone set to low light for some reason
Once I switched it to none, screen got much brighter
