This is probably not going to go well.... But I have to ask. Are you guys/gals sure you haven’t.... like.... you know, imagined all of this?

I work in a game dev studio with lots of painters, artists, sculptors - people that work with color every day (me included) - and there are several iPhones X going around, updated to iOS 12 - and no one is seeing any issues. Granted, none of us are A/V enthusiasts or anything (there’s a small amount of insanity in these circles that I kinda respect), but still.

So, all I’m saying is that it could be a psychological thing, or the difference is so small it’s not significant to, erm, regular people.
10 pages of people imagining this?

Maybe we're looking at it wrong.

Yeah the pictures weren’t good. But I tend to notice even the smallest changes, and the screen looked very weird on iOS 12 and it does not now on iOS 11.4.1.

Ok, well, sad to hear that. I am unable to see the difference on my X, but I guess you’re more sensitive to this.

People that works as game developers are regular...I guess ;)
Apple will fix this in some of future updates, calibration issue definitely.
But it's sad that IOS 12 is "performance" update and then after final release we see bug like this. Zero quality control.

Imagining this? Um, no. As I said in my post, I physically compared mine with one running iOS 11. Clear difference in colour saturation and vibrancy. iOS 12 is noticeably duller in comparison. These displays look like LCDs now.

I think it depends on what you’re looking at. I’m not under the impression that colour handling has changed everywhere.

This thread is a little bit confusing because (a) people are talking about different areas of iOS (b) they’re complaining about different things and (c) they’re not always using terminology correctly.

There are also issues of unit-to-unit variability and expectations.

Was there 2 different display providers for the X?

I am wondering if people seeing the color change have the same screen supplier.

Knowing Apple, I wouldn’t be surprised. Considering they used an inferior radio chip in the majority of units. Reception in these A1901 models is absolutely pathetic. I’ve yet to see more than 2 bars. So yeah, I can totally see them using different displays if it saved them $0.01 each one.

The issue exists on the iPhone 8+ and many other models as users have posted. This is not a hardware thing. It’s strictly an iOS 12 thing.

I'm a video editor, and I see no noticeable difference on my iPhone X or my wife's iPhone X.

I suspect if anything, Apple may have tweaked how the ambient light sensor reacts, or there is a setting being turned on or off during the upgrade that may be changing the screen for some people.

If only it were that simple. But it’s not...

Why would Forbes write an entire article on this if it were simply a setting?

Riiiiiiight... That’s ridiculous. There’s nothing clickbait worthy about this issue.
You asked a question about why Forbes would publish something. That's why. They get paid per click, and anyone can write for them without any qualifications or professional experience. It's a blog. Find a reputable source that is reporting on the issue.

Right here’s a reputable source. Why are you here? LOL

As I said, I'm a professional video editor. I deal with color all day for a living. I see no difference on 2 iPhone X, so it's not a universal problem.

The photos posted above showing minor before and after differences are due to different camera exposures.

There may be some settings that have been changed, but it is not universal for everyone.

I have not seen a basic understanding of color or technology coming from anyone claiming to see a difference.

The fact that you feel the need to continue to drop your resume here and belittle others for their "basic understanding" tells us all we need to know. Thanks ;)

The fact that you don't care that other people are saying there is no difference on their phone is more telling. You are the one claiming there is an issue, but you refuse to try to resolve it on your end.

You getting your ego fill here? You must not be a very busy "video editor".

"I" am the one claiming there is an issue huh? I guess no one else on this thread matters.

There's no "solving it on my end". Apple will have to fix this.

Oh, and by the way, you're holding your video camera wrong... LMAO seriously!!!

Thats the fix for our screens. Beeing a video editor or game dev! You wont notice it anymore since your eyes are perfectly matched with the world now

Edit: Oh sorry I meant a PROFESSIONAL video editor!!
EXACTLY. You must not leave out PROFESSIONAL. You wouldn't want to tarnish their resume.

I'm not sure if there is a point to your post.

Again, I see no difference on two iPhone X upgraded to iOS 12. I work with color all day, and would notice a shift.

You guys should look at what else may have changed when you updated if you are interested in getting your screen calibration back to where it was.

"I work with color all day"...... blah blah blah. Please, stop!

I am not dropping my resume here like you, but you have no idea whom you might be talking to on this thread either...

It isn't a setting or calibration of any kind that can be user tweaked.
