Didn't notice it on my X and even after reading this thread I really don't see it - but that can be my settings etc.

Hello !

I was on the way to upgrade my iPhone X but i m scared now.

I want to stay on iOS 11 but will it possible for me to install a new iOS 12 later (an iOS 12 fixed) ? I heard iOS 11 will be no longer signed by Apple...

Thanks!
Maybe it’s best to stay on 11 for now until this issue is fixed. You can always update to 12.x but once iOS 11.4.1 is unsigned you can’t go back.

I’m going to downgrade to 11.4.1 tonight because this washed out color thing is annoying me.

Has anyone tried the 12.1 beta? I have a XS Max and came from a Galaxy S8+ and noticed immediately in the Gmail app that the red at the top is very washed out looking. I also noticed in a game I play that it looks much lighter and washed out. I've tried changing everything in settings and it doesn't make a difference.

As I purchased this movie from iTunes, I played the video using the TV App on my iPhones.

Was it a special 4K hdr version or regular hd? It would surprise me if the Xs Max has that much black crush. Maybe you could take a screenshot from both phones and compare them on a computer if there really is any missing detail. Post it here as well.

I decided to return my iPhone XS Max to Apple and keep my iPhone 7 Plus. I did so mainly because I still prefer Touch ID with the iPhone 7 Plus instead of Face ID with the iPhone XS Max. I am also not a fan of the notch when playing videos in a landscape orientation and in fullscreen. As I have been very pleased with my other Apple products, I am giving Apple the benefit of the doubt that maybe the WS Max phone had a hardware issue, or maybe something else was wrong that Apple could have troubleshooted if I had made a Genius appointment at an Apple store to investigate further.

Also regarding the pictures that I had posted of the video, I played the videos from the “cloud” using the Apple TV App, so I don’t know the default playback quality for streaming. This could have also possibly caused a difference in the quality of the video playback, such as if the iPhone XS Max was streaming the video at a lower bitrate?

As long as you stay on iOS 11 it will work. The fact that it won’t be signed no more means you won’t be able to downgrade later. You can wait as long as you like and upgrade directly to iOS 12.1

With that said, iOS 12 is great and a lot of us have no issues.

I hope they are aware of this issue I’m tempted to do a clean install of iOS12. My eyes have kind of adjusted but my screen still does not look right.

I turned Increase Contrast on and I am a lot happier. I’ll leave it like this for now.

The, “I did this” to workaround Apple’s mistakes posts are so terribly unhelpful and counterproductive. How does anyone expect Apple to fix things that are broken when you let them off the hook?

Huh? I am still pissed just saying this made it better. Who am I letting off the hook? You think Apple gives two ***** about me?

Hi guys,
I also have the color problem after updating to iOS12.
The colors just suck.
Did anyone contact apple cs about it?
Or is this intentional?

That's what I've seen reported by multiple people but I did a clean install of iOS 12 on my X and it looks identical to how it did on iOS 11. Strange

I did a clean install as well and that seems to have solved it for me (although I could be wrong) so I would go that route first before trying anything more drastic.

I downgraded from 12.0 to 11.4.1. The top image is iOS 11.4.1, and the bottom image is iOS 12. Both pictures are with 100% brightness, no night shift or True Tone on.

The color difference is really small, but I noticed reds, yellows, and greens are paler, and the wallpapers are very washed out.

Yes, looks familiar.

I also got the iPhone XS this weekend. I remember seeing the iPhone X earlier and feeling like "wow!" when I saw the screen - however, I did not get that impression anymore from the XS. I'm fairly sure it is due to this issue; I could 'confirm' it from the reds that are now dull and orange-ish also on iPhone XS.

Naturally, the display on the iPhone XS is great - and it also masks some of the problem, but I am left to wonder how good it would look in an iOS 11 setup.

I was bummed as my iphone 8 turned washed-out looking, but I know I would be super-bummed had I owned an iPhone X (somewhat blessed I didn't have that as a reference).

Seriously hoping iOS 12.1. will address this, unless this is the 'new and bold' solution we'll just have to swallow.

Well, I don’t see it. Punchy and bright as ever, super sharp and beautiful. Maybe it’s not affecting everyone?

Or we could be sensitive to different things. For example, I think True Tone is amazing and I keep it on.

True Tone is a whole nother story

My buddy said it sucked outdoors but was great indoors. My
Experience is usually the opposite

But he’s XS and iOS 12 I’m x and 11.

Maybe paje

Are reds and orange dull on pictures in safari / video etc or just UI / iOS font color ?

I absolutely see no difference in colors between the two.

The small difference is because of the different camera settings for each photo, not the screens.

Looking at the lighting connector at the bottom of each phone, the small difference in the screens is also apparent in the brightness of the lightning connector.

This is probably not going to go well.... But I have to ask. Are you guys/gals sure you haven’t.... like.... you know, imagined all of this?

I work in a game dev studio with lots of painters, artists, sculptors - people that work with color every day (me included) - and there are several iPhones X going around, updated to iOS 12 - and no one is seeing any issues. Granted, none of us are A/V enthusiasts or anything (there’s a small amount of insanity in these circles that I kinda respect), but still.

So, all I’m saying is that it could be a psychological thing, or the difference is so small it’s not significant to, erm, regular people.

i have a really vibrant image as a wallpaper i found online and it pops out of the scree, i changed it to another photo yesterday (on an X) and it looks so washed out, the photo isnt even that dull. Seems to depend on what wallpaper you have and how aggressively it decides to filter it.
