FaceID isn’t perfect, and I’m still getting used to it (I forget to swipe up the screen), but I don’t miss touchid.

I love Face-ID - however, the only thing I might miss is if they use it on a MBP is that I'd like to be able to do 2 faces. Occasionally, my wife needs to get into my notebook to check something I store there.

Hi everyone - just as the question says, (particularly iPhone 6s and 7 users since there was faster Touch ID)

Do you miss Touch ID? This is the main thing holding me back from upgrading my 7.

I use Touch ID all the time for things like coffees and apps for banking and also using the London Underground.

I’m travelling to Canada this Christmas so the phone will be a BIT cheaper than the UK, just wondering if I’ll miss my 7?

Thoughts?

Is Face ID cumbersome compared to Touch ID?

I do miss FaceID and the swipe up to go home on my iPad...

^^ This

If Apple could only add some kind of ambient display option like the Samsung/Google/LG always on display that would mitigate this issue for me. I fear they won't though I want to push people towards the apple watch

Not everyone wants an always on display & I am glad the X doesn’t have one.

It really depends. I do miss Touch ID when I'm in bed, or when I need to unlock the phone but can't hold it in required distance from my face(like when I'm using my phone without wearing glasses). But I love the Face ID so much when I can't spare my thumb to reach the home button, or the skin on my thumb is wet or too dirty (for example, when I'm at the beach), and so on.

I wish Apple could make the Face ID along with Touch ID so that when one is not available for me, there's still another backup one.

That is very interesting NONE of you miss it. So when you pay for coffee for example, you have to look at your phone right? That takes less time than Touch ID?

I'm not really digging the whole double press the side button to download software from the App store.... i get that it's to prevent accidentally buying something unintentionally... but not a fan....

Only time I miss Touch ID is when driving. If I ever asked Siri to do somthing that required unlocking the phone, all that was needed was a quick tap of my finger. I never needed to look away from the road. Now I can’t do that.

I have not found a single scenario when I would wished the iPhone X had touch ID. Not a single one.
By the way, I think Touch ID is just as much dead as 3.5mm headphone jack is on iOS devices. Gone......

The main place I miss it is the fact so few apps have been updated to support it. Also it isn’t as infallible as Touch ID as there are occasions when it doesn’t work to unlock your phone.

I don’t get this. As far as I know, every app that supported TouchID supports FaceID as it’s pretty much tapping into the same API. If this isn’t the case then I can honestly say I haven’t come across a single app that doesn’t support FaceID which was previously using TouchID.

Also, some of these apps aren’t supporting the iPhone X screen so it would make no sense why they’d be supporting FaceID as it’s exclusive to the iPhone X.

Probably already made a comment in this thread, but reviving it again just to reiterate: Yes, yes I do.

Face ID is the Achilles heel of the iPhone X. It annoys me more than the notch or even the fact that you need the extra input to close down apps within the app switcher.

Seriously, Face ID sucks.

You could turn off the feature that requires you to look at it.

Also, in Australia it's illegal to touch your phone when driving, so FaceID is actually better for me.
If it's in the mount on the windshield near the wheel, it's easier to glance at phone (Which is no different to looking quickly at speedo in terms of placement) and have it unlock and I don't even have to touch the phone now.

I love FaceID, think it runs completely rings around TouchID and this is First Gen, it'll get even quicker and faster as time go's on.

I definitely miss Touch ID when I’m laying on the couch and want to just take a peak on the iPhone whiles its laying on the ottoman without picking it up or performing a Cirque Du Soleil move and bending my neck over to face plant my iPhone X.

I had my first encounter with Apple Pay today, and I must admit, I wasn't sure how it would wrk, so I didn't pull out my phone. I inserted my chip instead. I need to watch a youtube video or two. So yes, I missed it today, but only because I didn't fully understand the new process.

Not only do I not miss it, I HATED TouchID. It NEVER worked for me, while FaceID has NEVER failed, aside from when I literally had something large over my face or my eyes were closed.

Double-press the side button to bring up Apple Pay. It’s that easy.

To be the Achilles heel, it would need to be rejected by the masses... it has not. Maybe more of a mosquito bite, to you.

Then the iPhone X clearly isn’t for you. Stick with the traditional iPhone with TouchID.
