Hey All,

So obviously there are plenty of threads on Iphone vs Android. I have both the Iphone X and the Galaxy S8 Plus. I work as a virtualization engineer in the IT space, so I like to think I know what I am talking about, granted it is just an opinion.

I will say the new Samsung commercial hits home. Quite frankly it is true, Apple has been late to the game with technological advancements. This goes for Camera, water proofing, screen panels, wireless charging, the list goes on and on.

I hear a lot about Ecosystem, and I've been thinking is this a fair argument. Are there replacements using Google's ecosystem? For Apple TV you have Chromecast Ultra, which not only plays 4K TV and HDR, but supports Youtube Content at 4K. Is the Apple TV 4K a bad design, no but they do have the mode switching issue. What about music? Same thing here, Chromecast Audio. What about Apps, Google Play store. I think the Ecosystem thing is a tough sell. I will say the Apple watch is better than the offerings Third party and or via Samsung's offerings.

Here is why I would personally go Iphone over Android, and it's probably the only reason but a big one. The texting experience. Sending pics and videos over traditional MMS is a horrible experience. This is the only reason I would choose Iphone over Android. I think every other category I would give to Samsung/Android. People like to claim Android is slow, or behaves poorly. I've had just as many hickups with IOS as I have Android in my experience.

Android is a better professional user experience while Iphone is better suited for Grandma.. I will say though, the texting experience is a deal breaker for some, including me. If Samsung perfects this somehow, I would never go back to Iphone.

Apple is famous for not being first, but waiting for technology to mature to the point they can offer a better experience (facial authentication for example).

Also, many professional environments prefer iPhone over Android for some of the reasons you listed above.

As far as ecosystem, some users don’t like how Google scrapes your personal emails and communication to collect marketing data.

Finally, every time the FBI complains about not being able to get into an encrypted phone, it’s an iPhone — never Android. That says a lot about the security of the device.

Many people say ecosystem because good money has been spent on these Apple products. They aren't gonna get an Android phone just to have to find a work around for everything else. I get it, I have a mixture of products so Android actually works better in my household but I do have an iPhone and iPad. I'm willing to work around it because I like the flexibility of switching between systems.

What prompted you to write this long write up in which you humblebrag how the iPhone is a glorified emoji/iMessage 1000$ machine?

Also, checking “Find all posts” always delivers.

Like for example take Google Photos vs Photo Library/Icloud Photos. One is free, and vastly superior. I am surprised Apple can't make this amazing, it's been garbage for 5 years.

I remember sitting around Polly Pie's restaurant waiting for an order to pick up and the cashier thought my LG G5 was the Nexus 6P. He told me he wanted to switch because he was tired of iPhone but only stays because of iMessages. That's his only reason for not switching. I guess it's extremely important to many.

I use Textra (paid one) as my default app on Android. I also used to use Viber and Facebook Messenger which both can make calls. Viber is like WhatsApp which are both cross platform that doesn't offer it in original quality but I don't care. Will build an app cache that you would need to manually delete. I haven't bothered using Google Allo and Duo.

For my work though driving around all day, I prefer Android. I need Data, Hotspot, and Location toggles next to each other. SwiftKey is also superior on Android than on iOS and have used it since 2013 when it became free. The Dasher menu on iOS is also inferior. It's not as simple and reminds me of iOS' awful YouTube layout.

We all got different needs. Android isn't perfect for me but fulfills "most" of my needs. Let's not forget they work better as multimedia players than iOS.

I've studied phones since 2004 like a science along with different carriers. I would switch daily driver combos every few days just to see which multi-phone combination works best for me. I would reposition apps because its color wouldn't look good next to another one.

I would even rank phones by favs and reshuffle them almost every day. Even the size of the holster case matters to me because it decides which hip I will place it on. My belt can't always fit through certain cases. My SE holster can only be on my right hip.

I even tried using an SE as my ONLY phone for a day which didn't end well because GPS and Data are battery drainers. I find iOS more secondary for my daily needs. I do like Apple Maps just in case Google Maps voice navigation messes me up or crashes.

Current
LG G5
Apple iPhone SE
LG V20
Motorola Moto E
Xiaomi Mi 3
LG G3 Beat
HTC One

All-Time Favs
1. LG G5 (October 6, 2017-Present)
2. Apple iPhone SE (May 20, 2017-Present)
3. LG V20 (May 2, 2017-Present)
4. Motorola Moto E (June 20, 2016-Present)
5. Xiaomi Mi 3 (July 19, 2014-Present)

Daily Drivers
LG G5 (Phone), left holster
Apple iPhone SE (Browser), right holster
Motorola Moto E (GPS), car

^ I write notes like that all the time. My next phone needs microSD and will be a Sony.

Messages - Textra, Google Voice
Video - MX Player Pro, GPlayer
Music - Pi Music Player
Gallery - QuickPic, Google Photos
E-Book - Moon+ Reader
File Manager - Their default, ES File Explorer
Torrent - Flud
YouTube downloader - TubeMate (2.4.4)
Notes - Private Notepad
Keyboard - SwiftKey
Launcher - Nova Launcher Prime
Icons Pack - Lines or Whicons

Tethering is just too much of a hassle on iOS for me. Things like removable battery, microSD slot, and IR blaster are just bonuses for me.

My toggles above and SwiftKey menu...

And why we will never see Apple release iMessage on the Play Store for Android. Too many seem glued to it, even though they may hate or not even like their iPhone much, but Apple's text app has them hooked.

Oh well, I'll get by fine in life with lower res pics in my text threads, on my stock Android phones.

First world problems, I know

Honestly, Google could solve the iMessage issue by giving Allo SMS capabilities and making it the default application for Android messaging. I know it's easier said than done, but if Google had postponed launching Allo until they figured out messaging, we might have a viable solution

Seems like they let messaging go or don’t care about it.

Here's the thing

iMessage won in the States
WhatsApp won pretty much everywhere else that isn't Asia
Wechat won in Asia

Why spend money on a messaging platform that won't be adopted?

Tyranny of the defaults. Android users would use it if it were the default messenger on their devices.
The problem isn't Android to Android really it's Android to iOS with image quality.

Android to Android is covered with Allo I believe it's on every phone

Realistically, it's both. On an Android phone, regardless of where the photo is going, the quality isn't great. If the messenger App became Allo, automatically activated Allo based on your google account and could figure out if your send target has an Allo supported Android device with Allo activated, my experience is similar to iMessage.

When you typed that I looked at my WhatsApp contacts and my Allo contacts I'm missing three Android users and my iPhone users on Allo. The three that I'm missing are all use pretty old phones so it looks like Allo is automagically setting up when you set up a new phone.

Because it’s not the default app. iMessage is default and it’s pretty damn good.

Most people who use iOS use it cause of the ecosystem and probably iMessage is top. If Google not n necessarily Android could make an app similar to iMessage that’s default I would switch to the Pixel 2.

Another thought would be Google would only offer it in their device the Pixel 2?
