Use a battery utility, such as [http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/|coconutBattery] (for Mac) or [http://www.3u.com/|3uTools] (for Windows). Generally speaking, anything less than 70% of design capacity will require replacement but you may see some serious degradation starting at ~80%.

You can also use the Battery Health Diagnostic (Settings\Battery\Battery Health (Beta)) in iOS 11.3 and above. It will tell you what the health of the battery is.

And In 2 more weeks it’ll probably fluctuate more. Battery life changes periodically. This is why the info is really of no use to the user. All is does is cause unwarranted concern.

It's of some use, it's just not really something that needs to be checked on and worried about daily or even weekly.

I just checked the battery in my XS Max and it's at 100%. I bought it on October 29th. This is the first time I've actually looked at it since purchase. I'm just not worried about it.

Why is my iPhone XS from release day already down 2% of it’s battery health? My iPhone X was 99% after 1 year and a few months.

Reason to worry?

Thanks in advance.

No.

I would say yes... thats a concern. Its only been out for a few weeks and you lost 2% of your battery.

NO.

As random155 pointed out, that is reason to worry. I recommend a trip (back) to the Apple Store...

NO!!!

This is exactly why Apple didn’t release this type of information before.

This is perfectly normal and within spec. Typical Li-ion chemistry. Just use your phone and quit worrying about it.

Have been actively checking my battery health since day 1. Original health was around 106%. It fluctuates day to day, but I've never seen it go under 103%.

I am unsure why some people are having their batteries drop below 100% so early, maybe some batteries come out of the factory with a lower max charge level?

One of my theories was that they are under-quoting on the batteries' design max charge level, in order to make it look like the batteries last longer (due to their recent "scandals").

My battery on my xs now says 95% and ive had the phone since October. Should I be concerned? I'm using it with the Apple smart battery case.

My wife and I both purchased new iPhone XS Max models in late September right after they were first released. So we've had them for just under 7 months now.

Both of our phone batteries are showing 100%. I've also been very pleased in general with battery life of my phone, it is significantly better than the 6S Plus I was using previously.

Got the XS Max on launch day 4 months later it dropped to 99%. Wasnt too bothered but kept an eye on it and it didnt change.

Recently did a factory reset (~month ago) and it went up back to 100% and has stayed there.

From this experience dont think we should be reading too much into these small variations. I would say when its no longer at peak performance is when you should be concerned.

Well said. I watch my battery religiously with coconutBattery and have an excel spreadsheet of charge cycles, capacity, etc... It fluctuates but not by much. My wife's Xs Max and my Xs MAX are both over 102%. I have 78 cycles and my wife has 153. These phones are doing better than any phone we've had to date - and all the phone's we've had, except for one bad 6s+, have been exceptional after 2 years.

I wonder if the Apple Smart Battery Case doesn't make the internal iPhone battery sit at a lower than 100% capacity to help with longevity since it will be at 100% most of the time.

97%, iPhone X
This is a new battery which I got replaced in Dec last year, so its just been ~4 months. The earlier battery went down to 86% in just one year.
