I have a 120GB in my car with everything on it, so I hope it stays around.

An Apple employee did tell me they sell more iPod Classics that you would think, it is still very popular, apparently. I guess the lack of fancy features, just keeps it out of the spotlight.

there a great ipod but like you said it doesnt have many features like wifi and bluetooth

I would love it if they made it smaller more space. Lighting connector and maybe have the screen show more album art. I would be hapoy

In my opinion, if it was to be discontinued I think a WSJ/Bloomberg rumour would have showed up by now..
When the nano was redesigned last year we knew about it from the summer time.

My 240gb hard drive from my Video died 1 month ago and I am waiting/hoping Apple will update the classic. Might pull a Mac Pro on it and do a total surprise..

I just think the classic will stay for another year.
If not, I'm gonna have to spend another 130$ on a new hdd

I think it will get an update to lightning sometime this year, or get discontinued. That will probably either happen at this event or possibly if they have another iPod specific event later in the year.

the ipod classic really needs to be updated with a lighning port and a cheaper price!

I doubt you will get the cheaper price, probably just the lightning port and I could see them doing a capacity bump while they are at it. Although it is about just as likely that they discontinue it.

As a music lover I would hate it if they discontinue this iconic device. I really hope they update it but like everyone else, I think they will pull the plug. I simply may be buying my second classic if they drop it.

Apple sure built some solid devices here. I still have a 30GB iPod Photo that I bought in 2004 that still works just as good as the day I bought it. It still charges and plays for hours like it did when new.

I think they should meld the iPod Classic, iPod Mini, iPod Nano, and iPod Shuffle into one giant (tiny) iPod and just call it the 'iPod'. It would be slightly larger than the 5th generation Nano, with a 32/64/128gb SSD, Wolfson audio chip, and WiFi for Airplay.

Starting at $179

32gb - $179
64gb- $250
192gb - $350

I can dream ;)

My prediction is the iPod Classic receives a silent bump to lightning and earpods. That's it.

Alternative prediction is that the Classic is killed off, but it continued to live in the refurb/clearance store for a year or so.

The underlying theory is Apple will get rid of all 30-pin devices from their main store before this upcoming holiday shopping season.

I think one of a few things will happen:

1) Do nothing with it and let it survive one more year; this depends on whether or not they release a 128 gig iPod touch

2) Kill it silently and almost nobody will notice; this depends on whether or not they release a 128 gig iPod touch

3) Update the connector to a lightning connector to bring in line with other products so they can kill the 30 pin, and do nothing else

I don't see it getting a capacity bump. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the iPod touch never sees a 128 gig update either, as Apple pushes their cloud. A lot of people speculate that the iPod classic is only a placeholder for capacity until the touch gets 128 gigs, at which point people speculate that the classic will get dropped, but I'm not so sure Apple has any interest in a 128 gig touch.

I think the classic should continue, since its the only device that can fit large collections on. I have one in the car over 100gb of music and I can't think of another ipod that would do the job. Maybe a touch does now but that would be wasteful since I just operate it by the car's head unit and it just sits in darkness.

The only improvement i'd like to see is a switch to ssd, since my previous ipod photo's disk broke down so spinning disks are not ideal for mobile use.

I don't even care about the capacity, for me it's the click wheel. I only have 15 gigs of music, but I love the clickwheel and the simplicity of a device made for music. In fact I even turn off all the other functions from the main menu such as videos, etc. My main menu only has music, extras, settings, shuffle songs, and now playing.:)

Highly unlikely.

I think there's more chance of them dropping it. :(

Sad but true. The iPod Classic might get written off and discontinued with its low profit margin contribution... Nonetheless, I'm hoping for a 1% chance that they release an upgraded model, though I'm sure the click wheel would be gone...

if they get rid of it, I'll be forced to buy a used macmini and install that in my car with a 7' touch screen with all my music loaded to the hd.

Te news is that the Apple Care + accidental damage now also covers the iPod Classic.
At least they didn't forget/discontinue it

Wonder if the fate of the iPod Classic is now tied to the 4S. As long as Apple has to make 30-pin connectors for the 4S they might as well continue to sell the iPod Classic. One can hope.

A refresh with lightening would be awesome, but then I'd have to replace my iHomes :p

My 80gb Classic still running after six years knock on wood!
