You sound like a pack rat to me! Haha just kidding :)
you just seem like you like to have a lot of stuff with you, I guess.
I'm around my computer enuff to where I can just sync what I need. I actually like syncing often as it keeps my address book up to date across all my devices (yea yea, I know, buy mobile me)
I have tons of content as it sounds like you do as well, my main point being that I just don't need all of it with me all the time.
When I sync my iPad I put on what I'm gonna need "today"

My uncompressed music of only about 800 songs (down from 1000) is over 25GB alone.

I also have a lot of Cisco PDF's which range in size from about 30MB to a couple hundred MB. I have a bunch of Cisco Press books through the Kindle App, as well as tons of word and excel files for work. My apps are just over 1GB right now. I have never counted, but I think that I have around 100 and use just about all of them at least once a week, except the 15 or so games which actually get used a lot less because I am too busy with work or the forums.

I also have my iCal synced along with my Google Calendar. My contacts are only from my Mac since I do not keep any contacts in my Google Contacts.

16gb is perfect for me. I mostly read on my iPad. Holds all my documents and apps quite well. I have an iPod Touch for music and just some random movies on the iPad for when I am bored and not near a signal.

I have the 16 Gig wifi version. I have 9 gig free. But I'd much rather have the largest version available. For me it's a money thing. I went for the lower cost option and I'm leaving stuff off of my iPad to live within my memory means. I only have apps, very little music and no moves whatsoever. My 70+ gig iPhoto library will probably never get sync'd to an iPad.

So the answer is mixed. If money is an issue, you can get by with 16 gig by making some choices. But even if money is no issue, 64 gig isn't that big if you want to carry everything around with you. Between my iTunes library and photos, I'd be at 100 gig. Let's not get started on movies.

For me, the iPad is a giant iPod Touch. I play games on it. I read on it. I watch netflix on it. I surf the web and read email on it. If I had more space, I'd be able to bring along full length movies with me but I don't mind. For now my priority is ebooks. I have ibooks, kindle, bn reader and stanza. They are all excellent but I prefer kindle right now because I can read on every computer I own. I'd like that elements app. But the darn thing is something like a gig and a half. So I passed it up. I'd like the LOTR trilogy of films on my iPad. But they take up 8 gig so I passed them up. I picked a few hundred songs out of over 9000 and I can get by with less than a gig spent on music. If money is short, ractice a little self control and you can do just fine with 16 gig. If money is no object, more memory is almost always better even if you don't yet know what you would use it for.

If you're going to do Netflix and Hulu, you don't have to worry about storage. You have to worry about data useage! AT&T removes unlimited and all of a sudden, you'll be paying for every GB you use.

I regret cheaping out and going for the 16GB, as it's easy to fill up with games/apps. That said, it means I've theoretically saved money which will surely be spent on the next version.

16GB will probably not be enough, but it all depends upon what you plan to store on it. My 32GB is almost full, and I would say I have a smaller media collection than most on here.

If I get one I think I will get a 32Gb WiFi. I think for the extra £70 over the 16Gb it is worth it, means you can put movies on it and forget about them not worrying on filling up.

I aim to use it for the kids on car journeys for a "DVD player" - you think this is possible?

I got the 64 GB 3G and felt really bad about spending that much money on an iPad so I returned it and waited a day for a 16 GB 3G and am absolutely glad I got the 16 GB. Besides saving $250 (between the $200 price difference and not being charged tax on the 16 GB) I still have 5 GB left on my iPad after installing several applications, putting all of my music collection on there (which apparently isn't very much but I mostly use Pandora) and putting all my photos on there as well.

I think this device is a steal at $620 and if I didn't ever think I would need 3G (which I have still to sign up for) the $499 price point would be an even better bargain.

16gb is more than enough for me. I don't use my iPad as a portable music device - that's what my iPhone is for, or my 160gb iPod.

I'm not really into movies, so there aren't any on there…for me, the iPad is for browsing, reading books, reading music, and the odd game.

just to add to the polarization

Since I have a 32GB 3GS with me at all times for music (and presently that's only while I'm in the car), 16 has been plenty for me. The Photos app gets a lot of use, but I think I have over 600 pics (in 4 albums plus 'faces' collections for my 3 kids) and that's only 1.5GB or something.

Generally I feel 16GB is fine. I can see if you're going on a 2 week holiday and that's your only source of storage/video then it can be a bit paltry, but the main arguments I hear for the 32/64 are how full theirs are. Yes I have a huge library too, but I've yet to hear someone say 'in the last months I've viewed/listened to 80% of my 64GB library!' Having the ability to sync a ton of data doesn't necessarily yield any real life benefit if you don't consume that much between syncs.

Having said that, I suggested my dad get a 32 because iTunes micromanagment isn't his forte. But I don't sync very much with my 16GB, nor do I feel like I have to make hard choices about what data I keep on there. I think I have 2-3GB free without even trying.

I'm using half of my 16 Gb. I don't collect stuff. I use playlists to manage my music, no sense keeping Christmas music on for any month but December. I don't keep apps, if I master a game, I remove it. Apps I don't use in a month go bye bye.

Once I watch a movie or show, I remove it.

Yeah, but you may find you want 64, especially if you want to please the whims of several kids.

I thought that 16 should be enough - that the ipad is essentially a 'thin client' - and my initial purchase was 32, figuring that'd be more than enough. I'd just put an essential selection of music on it, a few games, and a few movies.

My first sync said: not enough space.

I compromised further on the music included, and cut down the films I had on the device... But then I thought, sod that. Why am I compromising with my lovely shiny new toy? So I got a 64 instead and now I have breathing space.

I found that I actually rather liked having music on it and would listen to stuff while I surfed the web. I'd been ripping movies I might like to watch on it and couldn't decide which one would take my fancy first; air sharing doesn't do it for me since you have have to have a server on, and I use the pad on a commute often.

For most things I use the pad for, 16 would actually be fine. But to have the range of things I might want to use it for, and to have room to grow, I ended up with the full 64. If you're more self-disciplined than I, then you'll save yourself a hundred or two!

Not. Even. Close. Bub.

Seriously, I have a 64GB and between uncompressed music, some home videos of my kids, apps and other files such as books, PDF's, etc., I have less than 20GB left on mine.

However, if you have compressed music files, stream videos, and do not have a bunch of large PDF's, then 16GB may be perfect.

Obviously, it is up to you and what you plan on putting on it.

i have my main large uncompressed lossless audio in my regular itunes library and have itunes compress them to 128Kbps when transferring to the iPad, it saves space, saves quality and generally probably would not notice that much of a difference.

it saves space for my HD tv shows and movies that look crisp on the iPad..but generally have SD versions.

i have a few apps that store data on them directly so i opted for the highest capacity, esp with the 3G and a GPS app to store large, more maps when traveling is nice.

i have about 60% of it filled now and i think its fine for the most part..more storage would be nice, but not uber important at this time.

i got the 16gb. i have an ipod for music, and an iphone too. i have way too much music to fit on any of the ipad or iphone models. i don't feel the need to carry around too many videos either so i have plenty of space for my apps and photos and files on my ipad.

For my 1st post on this forum..

I think 16 gigs is perfect.. This being typed from my iPad ..
Totally made my MacBook obsolete..

16GB serves me just fine. I have a 32GB iPhone that has my music collection. For me the iPad is more of a remoting, aggregating, and streaming tool with apps like RDP, LogMeIn, Pulse, and Air Video for playback. I have a rather large video collection locally on my home PC that would never fit on even a 64GB iPad.

Hello,

For those who have had a chance to use the ipad 3g for a while - just want to know if 16gb is enough. I will be using netflix for movies, podcasts will be downloaded to my iphone, i might use the ipad for photo galleries.

What do you have on your ipad and is 16gb enough? I might change my order.

I have a 32 GB iPod Touch and I am only using 3.4 Gb which leaves me with (rounded) 29 GB free... oh ya 16 GB on iPad is more than enough for me :)

I had a 16gb for a bit and I can tell you it wasn't enough for me.

I had about 8gb of uncompressed music (There was another 5gb I would have really liked to fit), 1.5gb for apps and such maybe 1gb for pictures and wallpapers. And there was barely enough for 3 high quality movies at native. I don't mind switching out videos but it would have been nice to be able carry a couple more at once.

Same her I swapped my 16gb for 32gb; so glad I dido that now. Can have more movie and Tv choices. Although music wise I only have a few albums as I always have my iPhone with me for that.
