Hi, is it possible to export all of my LastPass passwords/notes to Bitwarden? Also, is BitWarden propietary software?
Yes, on the website you have many import options, including 1Password.

It is open source software - https://bitwarden.com/open-source/.

It is free, but after testing it for some months, I paid for Premium just to support this great offering.

1Password X Beta just had desktop integration temporarily removed. This means no more Touch ID integration for the Browser Extension (if you want inline Browser Autofill in browsers that are not Safari).

They claim the change is temporary as they work to improving that capability (desktop integration) and making it more cross platform.

Too bad. I really liked that functionality. Hopefully the wait isn't too long.
Maybe the best thing to do is to have your most important passwords such as master password for vault, apple and main email accounts stored in a webmail account unlinked to anything, but you must remembert the login, of course. Instead of typing the password, just type two hints that make you remembet them, or upload them as an encrypted zip file.
The person concerned about the hacking of the servers: wouldn’t these companies have multiple servers, backups?
Right now my concern is with 2FA. I stopped using sms because how easily hackable sim cards can be by the same workers of the phone company. Switched to authy, which now has massive sync issues. Two headaches: the possibility of a vault master password compromised may be low, but if it does and my 2FA app is having issues, then I’m done. No access to my accounts. I got into this security insanity after a big earthquake hit my city and I realized how easy it would be to lose the notebook where I wrote all my passwords. Now I have the concerns of this double layer security.

Try the app OTP Auth. It works so much better than Authy.

Hey, just to add that I just backed up lastpass to bitwarden and it was flawless. What are the chances of two different companies failing at the same time. Also opened an email that contains my most important passwords, no links to any other email addresses or phone number. Now I'm going to try the OTP suggestion.
I would be truly unlucky to get hacked with all of these measures, don't you think?

You mean you have created an email draft where you've copy-pasted your most important passwords? Which email service?

Not saying which service ;) , but one of the main ones, and I didn't copy-paste the passwords. I used hints to remind me of each one.

It all depends on if you need passwords across multiple browsers. I use 1pwd for client accounts, so its a needed thing that I would use a dedicated app. If I was just using it for my own self, I would probably go 100% safari/keychain.

Why would anyone pay thousands for Apple hardware (iPhone, iPad, MacBook, iMac here) and then skimp on protecting your data? I have a licence for 1Password rather than a sub & it's some of the best value money I've ever spent.
If you read the thread maybe you'll notice what the problem is with P1.

I'm about to fade out my usage of 1Password. I'm using Apple devices only, so Apple's Keychain is good enough for me when it comes to passwords. Other confidential notes, scans... go into a collection of locked Apple Notes.
After 7 years with 1Password I dropped it a month ago and have not looked back. I switched to Keychain. I realized that all of my passwords were stored in Keychain... and 1Password... and I was using Keychain to autofill... not 1P. So, not hard for me. Switching the non-passwords that I stored in 1P to the notes app. Will lock.

What happens to your passwords when you drop 1Password? How are you able to then access them?
You can export your passwords out.
Happy to stick with keychain it's free and simple. The only headache I fine is when I want to use Google Chrome I have to retrieve the password from my keychain. No big deal, and a small trade off for using Chrome every few weeks.
Agreed. But, I only use Chrome once every couple of weeks so I am fine with it. I keep Chrome around when I need Flashplayer.

I agree. But sometimes you have no choice.

Apple Music.

We need a family option for our PW manager, to work with multiple Apple ID’s.

The stand alone version of Office won’t support iPad Pro.

Oh, I know. I rent a few things myself, 1Password for Families being one of them. To me, media platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Netflix, etc seem different in that you're really paying for access to a gigantic library. Even with 1Password, I think there's an argument to be made for it needing to be continuously evolving to match security threats and maintain compatibility with ever-changing websites.

The software I resent renting is stuff that's basically standalone applications that you just download and run. Those to me always feel like it's on them to develop new versions and offer them for purchase, versus basically asking everyone to pay up in advance.

I have been with 1Password since it first came out. The years that they offered free or reduced upgrades were nice and doable. The subscription had me comparing the competition - Lastpass, keepass (different versions), got sticky password in a bundle, but finally found and have been sticking with Bitwarden for the last 9 months.

It works really well on all devices. It's free, with whatever devices, but I upgraded to the Family Sharing for only $12 a year to give them some support. Their premium is only $10 a year. Great values especially with how well it works.

I’m confused about the $12 a year part of your post. Their website shows $40 a year for family sharing. https://bitwarden.com/pricing/

Did they give you special upgrade pricing? Because even if you had the $10 a year plan before adding $12 would still not equal $40 so I am really confused.

Like many I switched several years ago from 1Password to LastPass when the former moved to a subscription revenue model. Their functionality appears to have remained comparable over the years.

Alas, LastPass seems to have ditched its purchase plan and has moved to a subscription plan, just like 1Password, and at basically the same price point. Just wondering if there's any other difference...

Quite a few services, even the likes of Quicken, have switched to a subscription pricing.

Pretty sure my LastPass and Quicken renewals are coming up in November.

I've seen comments here that it's still possible to purchase a normal license. I have a normal license license for 1Password v6. It's what I use on my Macs, but mostly using keychain these days. I've lost the 1Password installer from before they introduced the subscription ripoff, so the big advantage of multi-platform over keychain is now lost.

Is it possible to purchase a normal all encompassing license like you used to be able to, or is there a way to download the old version installer for Windows.

I refuse to pay a "subscription" for desktop apps.

Is it possible to purchase a normal all encompassing license like you used to be able to...

Yes *, download the 1Password 7 installer from the 1Password website and select the "license" option when you're asked about subscriptions. Don't start a membership trial first.

* "All encompassing" meaning single-user, single-platform, single-version if I recall correctly.

Thanks. Yeah I found a way but now I realised that I have no way to keeping everything synced anyway because dropbox now has a limit to 3 devices. OH well.

Yes, it is. It's just not advertised.

You could also do a direct sync over your local network, you'll need a computer as the "server" for this to work.

I have tried & tried to figure out 1password and I am still lost!!! I have tried for months.
It's an interesting question. I will be eager to see some of the replies you get. I have used 1Password for quite a few years now and it works very well. But, yes, is it actually needed now.

I'm still using and it works on my devices. I'm using Android, Mac and PC. I don't have a worry about psswds. Because they sync immediatly with all devices. I can save psswds on pc, mac, dropbox etc.
For me this is best option as cross platform app.
