Storage space usage is a strange thing.

I have a 256GB Xs Max and 256GB iPP 12.9 (2018)

The phone is the primary photo/video taker and music player, yet it has 230GB available. Whereas the iPad has 182GB available.

Also I'm very surprised about the iPhone's 230GB available number, as the previous 256GB X had less than 100GB available. I set up the new phone from a backup of that phone.

i have 64gb ipad air2... for 4yrs... i wish there is 128gb haha...
how much is the usable space for 64gb iPP 11inch?

I can get away with 64gb on a phone, but not an iPad. Do not use the cloud and I’d rather have that extra space on board.

256gb is my sweet spot.

Without really thinking about it, nearly all of what I do on the iPad has moved to someone's cloud, so 64 has become very workable for me. If someone's doing something that involves large local files, you definitely need more storage. It's expensive enough that it's worth trying to figure this out ahead of time.

Personally I’m sure I could have managed with 64GB, as my last iPad was 32GB, but I decided to spring for the 256GB, mainly because I wanted my full photo library (around 100GB) to be fully downloaded. Otherwise I’m fine using all types of cloud services.

One way to assess this for yourself is to look at your total storage on your current iPad, and look at how storage is being used (apps, music, video, books, etc.). That plus any specific future needs should give you a good idea of what you need. The post just above is a great example of that.

I have a 64GB 10.5" iPad Pro and it's more than enough for my uses - PDFs, comics, movies, games, etc. - but I don't know if it would be enough for Photoshop once you toss a bunch of large PSDs on there. I also keep lots of stuff in the cloud (OneDrive for Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and other office/productivity apps and document scans, iCloud for my photos and music, DropBox for other stuff that needs to transit between iPad and a real computer).

I also have a 256GB iPhone X with local copies of all my photos, music, etc. so I don't need to store any of that stuff locally on my iPad.

I love the idea of having all my pictures stored locally on one device, but as my photos library is now something like 750gb that’s just not practical. And actually that’s very liberating, because between the hefty iCloud space I have to pay for and other services like Apple Music, I can very easily get away with a 64gb iPad, and my next Mac will probably have smaller storage too. Still important to have a backup of course, but that’s what external drives are for.
