I told my wife that I hope 64 GB is enough for me long-term, what with Apple Arcade coming out later this year, and she said, “if it isn’t, you can just trade it in next year for a new one.” She’s right (and it definitely helps me from worrying as much). I doubt it’ll be a problem, but I also didn’t expect to be upgrading my Mini 4 so soon (got it last year, and discovered that it’s not powerful enough to have the graphics turned up high in my games).

But in stores where they have demo devices loaded with games, they almost always have the base storage, so it should be good. Plus, I don’t need to be playing 20 games at the same time. I usually cycle between half a dozen maybe. There’s plenty of space for that amount of games. I actually have 11 games on my Mini 4, but I hardly play most of them.

Just curious - are there a lot of people that play lots of games on iPads? I run into a lot of PC gamers on Twitch - but I wonder if the community using iOS devices is as big or bigger.

I’m thinking about getting the 64 gb mini. I have the 12...pro, which is also 64 gb. I have the older 10.5 pro which is 256 gb, I use that to store everything. I don’t keep a lot of pictures on my 64 gb devices.

Definitely not as serious of a crowd as PC gamers in general, but lots of people casually play iOS games. I became hooked on PUBG Mobile last year. Prior to that, I was just playing iOS games casually like most people. Now, I foresee playing the upcoming Call of Duty Mobile, the mobile version of Mario Kart and more. I got a little bit of the gaming bug.

I strictly game on iOS with a iPad Pro 11” best gaming system I’ve ever owned.

I’m happy with it too, a lot of developers are porting real console games to the iPad. And with so many new iOS games coming, it’s just a really great gaming experience. I never thought it was possible to have a 5 hour gaming sessions on a iPad lol. Mobile gaming never could keep my attention longer than about a couple minutes before. I’d say a iPad is more than enough as a primary gaming console.

PUBG is so much fun! Call of Duty mobile is coming. Elder scrolls blades, they will probably port Skyrim to iOS some time.

Also on a side note, I own a Nintendo Switch and a lot of games that are available on both devices, look and run way better on my iPad Pro by a long shot! Fortnite comes to mind.

I imagine the mobile iOS gaming community is growing faster and larger than all other options.

64GB is not enough now that videos take up so much space, cameras recording in 4K (though Mini 5 is 1080p only), Netflix having offline downloads, etc.

Don't cheap out and get the 64GB on any iOS device.

64 GB is fine for me on an iPad. Has been for years. Will be fine for next few years too. After that I’ll get a new iPad, preferably with 128 GB. I probably won’t need more than that, that as if I keep my iMac as my main machine.

BTW, these iPads can record video in h.265 HEVC, which saves space over h.264 AVC. Similarly, you can take pictures in HEIF, which saves space over JPG. I’ve been using HEVC and HEIF for years too.

If it's fine for you, then great. I rather have more space than I know what to do with as opposed to not enough and having to juggle deleting things to keep going.

Exactly. 64 GB works well for some people and not for others. Don’t assume your needs are representative of everyone else’s, like your previous post suggests.

Im also wondering why photos videos on my iphone is consuming space on this ipad ?
It should me on icloud only for read only purpose...

What’s more funny is that my iphone is only using 20gb space over 256gb storage...

No need for the hostile post either.

64 squad it’s more than plenty. My tablet storage needs are so slim even 32 or 16 would work

Apple is never getting $150 more from me for iOS local storage. Never.

I like to limit my guilt when upgrading iOS devices (happens too frequently), especially iPads which could be considered redundant to some. I could never use nor recoup the $150 upcharge for 256GB, so I instead use that money for iCloud and Apple Music subscriptions that I enjoy using. Guess that makes me a good little sheep for buying into services, but in another thread discussing 10.5” Pro trade in values my 64GB got the same as 256 and even cellular models. Crazy. Now that base is 64, I easily make it work.

I set up everything anew on the iPad mini so 64GB is enough.

I can't justify the cost of the 256GB with cellular.

My guilt comes from an iPad mini 5 being secondary to my iPad Pro with 256 gb of storage. If it was my primary iPad I might think differently. I did upgrade my iCloud account though.

The Pro might become secondary after using the Mini for a little while! So far I’ve refrained from having two iPads, but when a 12.9” Pro can replace my 13” MBP I’ll happily do so and splurge for 256GB or more. The Mini would still be my most used device however, as my needs are pretty casual and basic most of the time. Enjoy each one, they’re both good at what they’re made for. Sounds like a 64GB Mini would work perfectly for your plans.

I have lots of music, books, movies as well as data on my iPads, 64 would no longer work for me. I don’t like to rely on cloud access.

64GB is fine for me on my iPhone and iPad. Everything is on the Cloud and I have about 45GB free on both.

It depends on the person. For me, the 64GB cellular version is enough, seeing how with cellular I can stream instead of having to download everything ahead of time. For those with Wifi only, it might be prudent to get more than apps require, if you are one that wants to view movies and video at any time.

Sounds like Keith McCullough.

It wouldn't be enough for me. On my 128GB iPhone XR I have 30GBs left and on my iPhone XS Max, I've used 170 of the 256GBs of storage available.

My iPad 10.5 shows 59 GBs of 64 used. But there is a lot of stuff I could delete. To my mind I wouldn't consider an iPad below 128GBs although this isn't always an option. I think it's a shame that it isn't available on the new Mini.

Even on my MacBook there is only 70GBs remaining out of 256. A lot of high resolution flac and alac files, not so much video but thousands of photos and books.

i have a 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 but I still crave a new iPad mini 5. I’ve wanted a new mini ever since I gave away my iPad mini 4. I used to have this silly rule that I should own only one iPad at a time. I kept my first gen pencil and I have lots of lightning cables so the only additional expense lull be the case.

I’m prepared to spend $399 but not $549. I expect to keep a few library books on it, the Procreate app with drawings, and some documents. No videos, and I would move my photos to my iPad Pro regularly. Is 64gb of storage likely to be enough?
Get the 256GB model. You can never be sure if you’ll have enough storage!
