Is AI enough to upgrade to iPhone 16 / Plus / Pro / Max?

I'm not impressed by anything AI on any tech device, it's more or less a super-fancy Office '97 Clippy Office Assistant.

That said, I tend to upgrade my iPhone every 2.5 years or so, usually it's due to the battery cycling (deprecating) down.

:apple:

Apple's AI offering is currently weak at best, not to talk about the whole EU situation.

I really hope today they will surprise us with something new and innovative that goes way beyond the leaks and AI, otherwise this is going to be one of the most underwhelming updates to iPhone ever.

Companies are running out of ideas. I doubt Apple will surprise us with anything, just another large number of small tweaks that in the end will look like they are worth upgrading.

The phones have almost reached their final form. The final form of the iPhone, in my opinion, will simply be a display with no cutout, almost invisible bezels, 6-7mm thickness and done.

AI is basically the needed part going forward, apple will basically kill the non AI models very quickly and expect to see a massive price drop later on this week on non AI models, swappa, ebay all you guys gonna feel it.

After all, all products need to keep pace with The Times.

from what we know about Apple AI, the most unique capability is being able to look through your phone to understand 'your context'. Could be really useful and I am interested to see how I use it, if at all. But right now it doesn't look like a reason for most to upgrade.

128 gig for 1k? Smh, they followed google or google followed them, samsung is base 256 in the ultra now.

You were right. Deep inside I knew it, but I was hoping for something more. The times Apple used to surprise us and innovate are over and long gone.

Having just watched the presentation, AI on its own is not enough to upgrade but the new camera button is a very positive reason to consider an upgrade. The camera will become much easier to use without the usual fumbles. Ai, again, is not much use without understanding what improved functionality it brings and whether that functionality is useful. I do not want it rewriting my texts or notes, but the ability to find photos, gather information related to a specific context are all useful. We will just have to see how these new features work and how easy they are to access without becoming intrusive.

Really underwhelmed this year more than any year previous
They really are reaching the law of diminishing returns now

AI probably not enough to make an early upgrade (especially since AI features are rolling out gradually) but looking forward to accessing these new features on my next iPhone whether it be 16, 17 or 18.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Flip 6 and 15PM...

I don't get the point of AI. IMO it's a sales tactic, you know like adding a Camera Button. 🤪🤪

I used it once after seeing a Short on it.

I turned my text message to Shakespeare like. Okay it was jokes but I don't see my self using AI to convert my messages.

I read people uses it to summarize a page. I'm not in that work field.

So it's not for me.

Do you know what I want from the companies. A thicker phone so battery life can last days!!!

Yeah… no thank you.
Phone are already heavy enough like that. But you can find brick-like phone with 20000mAh battery if you need that. JerryRigsEverything did a video about one recently.
