I know, I know, it's incredibly superficial. But on such a clean Apple design it's such a sore thumb. Argh. :(

I want the 3G, I'm almost positive. If I said no to the 3G, and lost out on internet everywhere if I needed it once, for just $130, due to a simple black strip I'd feel like a fool…

But… argh. What do you guys think of the black bar? Help. :(

I got the non-3G mostly due to impatience but having no black strip definitely is a plus.

Basic Electronics

Anyone really bothered by it needs to take a course in basic electronics.

It would have been nice if they had used titanium so there was the same clean design. Am I really bothered. Nope!

I understand the need for it and will buy one anyways, but man is it ever ugly.

You guys realize if they made it all metal/aluminum like the wifi model it would significantly reduce the 3G signal? Then you would all be complaining about reception issues...

Yup .
Then I would suggest they use a rubberized sleep/wake button and shove the antennas under it instead.

i would umm.. think of it as a birth mark? :S or spray paint it with the same coloUr (yes, i know. i'm in australia you see) as the rest of the device? and claim it as a limited edition iPad?

Yeah, the black bar had no bearing on my decision, but as you say, not having it is definitely a bonus. It's no surprise the Wi-Fi only model is what's used in all the pics.

Oh, I definitely understand the need for it, but that hardly helps what it looks like.

*shrugs* Must buy anyway. Pic in updated OP.

Yeah its ugly but they need it i guess.
Why not put it on the bottom or have it go all the way across.

Depends which side of the pond you're on. Obviously the British way makes more sense taken logically, but its a bit more complicated than that (google it, quite interesting).

I don't know why you would think it needs a logic discussion.

If you care less than you care now, there's room to go down.

If you can not care less than you care now, there is nothing lower.

Hey, look! First hit on google :) Pretty straightforward.

I would rather have a black strip... than an antenna sitting inside of a Faraday cage.

You missed the point...I don't need it explaining to me, I know perfectly well why "could care less" doesn't make a lot of sense logically or grammatically. It's an idiomatic corruption of the original saying, some would say down to laziness, but that's not necessarily the case (I did read an interesting article on the origins of the corrupted version but I can't find the original link).

Why? it looks badass.

I thought about it for a while but having the 3G without the need of a contract made it worth it..and the wait too.
