Other Is anyone planning to switch to Android now that Jonny Ive is out?

I’m using an iPhone X and love it.

No issues (knock on wood)

But now that Ive is out I’m not sure how future iPhones will be

I believe Android might become a serious option for some including myself

Thoughts?

How is this a joke? iPhone X and iPhone 4, assuming Jonny Ive had major influence over it, were groundbreaking devices.

If we’re gonna get repackaged phones with minor camera spec bumps and new colors for 3-4 years then idk about iPhone anymore

It’s a joke because out of so many phones, most have mainly been "repackaged".
I’ve has been the main driver for the ridiculous form over function path Apple has been on. Might be nice for some fresh perspective.

Why?

I assess products based on how they're delivered - not the personalities involved in the process - including things like warranty/service channels, price, features, integration and security. So the next iPhone that's available without Ives' design contributions, I'll make the same assessment, if the product is awesome, and a notable upgrade to my current iPhone, I'm a buyer, regardless of who was/wasn't involved.

Apple pays Jony Ive $50M a year.

Look at the iPhone 11. The rear square bump is almost a direct copy of the Mate 20. Apple can buy much better design work for that much money.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jony was actually pushed out.

That's what we've been getting for years anyway. I don't really see what was groundbreaking about the X in terms of design. A smaller bezel and a notch? A design going into its 3rd year, that replaced a design that had been around for 4 years.

Exactly, I can see a sigh of collective relief from serious Apple hardware engineers that are tired of his functional compromises in the name of what? Thin? The precise way the curve emphasizes the - notch?

It hasn't even been one day yet. Even if I was considering it I would want to see how the change affects the future products that haven't been released yet.
 
I, personally, am very glad. Apple needs new blood. I have great respect for Ive and what him and Jobs managed to do between ‘96-2007, but Apple needs new blood, new creativity and a new direction.


However, if you read deeper into the news, you will find that Apple will be Ive’s client at his the company he owns,LoveFrom. So I think this is more a strategic for both Ive and Apple.

His employment has had bearing on my past purchase decisions. There were more than a few that I passed Apple up on due to his awkward idea of aesthetic. I'm looking forward to real innovation now, from the designer that replaces him, and is actually hungry to produce a form that works with function, rather than impedes it.

He’s still going to be working with Apple though and to hardly surprising as he’s a fantastic product designer.
 
The Butterfly Keyboard mess is a perfect example that Apple let Ive's design team took over anything, essapically engineering. You can tell it was Ivy who force the engineering team to make a thinner keyboard which will fail eventually.
As lots of members point out, a product is not only about the exterior but also the interior. Hopefully Apple will start to value engineering team more to deliver more "usable" products.

Are you in for the look or the way the OS works?' cause .... iOS will still be iOS...

Now if you are on iPhone only for the HW look... there are better alternative and there have been for a long time now.

Just a few things:

1.) Ive is not ‘out’, he still will be affiliated with Apple, but he will be more independent on the design aspect.

2.) Apple has some of the best design engineers in the world with the iPhone, just because Jony Ive is moving independently, doesn’t mean the iPhone will suffer in terms of quality/aesthetics. Apple has a very long tradition with their design history, and Jony Ive set the pace with his DNA since 1992, which Apple likely will continue moving forward with his design cues, regardless of his participation or not.
