all we really know is that we don't know the real story, and whatever is getting fed through the Apple PR gobblygook distortion field is damage control.
Already there's conflicting information about this story cuz Apple Marketing can't get it straight. On one hand Ive is going to start another design firm and Apple is going to be his number one client (makes absolutely no sense). And on the other, we're hearing that Ive hasn't been involved with current Apple products for some time and is "burned out".

These stories don't jibe. It's all a coverup for something else.

All anyone knows for sure is that Apple is now no more "special" than any other tech company out there as far as industrial design goes. Just another tech company.

I don't think I'll ever switch back to Android; there's so much running under the hood of an Android device, that they need 4 Gb of RAM just to function well - just like Windows 10 needs 8 GB minimum. I like efficiency, which is why I'm running Apple. I will wait until my 6s is dead before I switch to another phone; definitely in a wait-and-see mode.

iPhone, iPad and Macs are more than just "looks", the OS, the usability, the apps, and finally the hardware. The cover doesn't matter too much if the inside is great.

My choice of words for their laptops would include; the unreliability, the compromises, the price. Jony created some really ground breaking designs. New blood may not be a bad thing at this point.

I regard Apple's phones as more secure than Android ones. I am used to the Apple ecosystem. I haven't disliked anything I've bought from Apple yet (although I prefer the smaller SE as a phone and use my XR as a WiFi device to read books and news). So no, I'm not switching to Android.

Anyway I don't know exactly how much input to each Apple product that I have purchased over the years is down to Jony Ives himself. He may have nixed some input or he may have approved it or incorporated it etc., but basically he led a team and that team will continue to evolve over time.

Another member above said it above absolutely perfect, what a phone looks like really doesn’t matter to consumers anymore, they generally all look the same. What you’re _really_ purchasing and what matters most, is your loyalty to what platform you’re choosing with your security in today’s digital world. With Apple and the iPhone, there is no other choice for me, not when it comes to the privacy and security of iOS.

I'll make my judgement when I see the new stuff

I don't really care about who specifically made the thing, I just want it to be worth selling

This is pretty amusing. Honestly, what the phone looks like means nothing to me. I need the best combination of performance, privacy, security, ecosystem, apps, and support. Android phones aren't there yet and likely won't ever be.

Agreed 100%. I'd also add that some of the features I love the most aren't really possible outside of the Apple ecosystem.

For example, I use these features every day or every week at least. Even though Windows/Android might have it's benefits, I would really miss these simple things.
- Handoff
- AirDrop
- AirPlay screen mirroring
- Syncing of SMS and iMessages between Mac, iPhone, and iPad
- Phone call syncing and passing between Mac, iPhone, and iPad
- Auto mobile hotspot

I agree, there are a ton of features that I would miss. I just feel like the ones I listed out are the most critical. I can’t think of many reasons why I would switch to Android, but the way my phone looks definitely isn’t one of them.

We are considering it, but not specifically because he's out. It's more because we've been priced out of iOS. We now have four members of the family using phones, two of which are going on five years old (the phones, not the users) and the writing is on the wall regarding lifespan of those devices.

I've used an android device for work for the last six years, and am perfectly happy a comfortable with it. Just not looking too much forward to moving the family over, namely because I'll have to teach them lol. Also not looking forward to losing Apple Watch. I guess technically I could stay with iOS for longer, but that was also part of my reasoning for. It moving over; we wanted the whole family to be in the same platform for ease of use, but a lot has changed on that front too.

No. Jony isn’t the sole reason iPhone is the way it is. In some way shape or form, he wasn’t going to be the head of design for iPhone I definitely, and a change was going to be made for some reason or another eventually. I don’t stick to a company because of one person.

If you’re being sarcastic, I get the joke. If you’re being serious, your post is the joke.

Neither do I, and I’m also not brand agnostic either where I feel I need to be compelled to purchase only ‘one’ brand from one company. But I am partial to the iPhone, because of the security protocols and I value my privacy, those are two factors that the other competitors need to learn from Apple in that regard.

Love it people have been complaining that Apple doesn't do great design and now that the person who was responsible for design is gone so there might be new design - people are still leaving for design.

Hmmm....

I’m not too sure how true this is these days as there are Androids with 2GB RAM and 3GB RAM that run just fine. It’s all dependent on Android Skin and OEM.

With all that said, I totally agree about efficiency. Something I am absolutely loving as a new iPhone owner is the harmony between Software and Hardware Apple has, thanks to them controlling both so much and also being kinda strict on developers, I am finishing that a lot of Apps look and work so much more efficiently in iOS vs Android, and that iOS generally seems to run more consistently.

Now all the copycat Chinese companies will be able to pay Jony directly for the designs they normally copied instead (although paying for design probably doesn't sit well with them). :)
