I’m still amazed at your passion for supporting (good) and defending (questionable) Apple no matter the subject. But that’s ok. I guess. Your heels are dug in.

As for the OP’s question... nope. I’m enjoying my new XR. In four or five years when I upgrade I’ll have more of an opinion on those iPhones. Won’t be switching to another brand, though. Unless Apple puts out some kind of sloppy garbage of course. Then I’ll be in a predicament ;)

Your post amazes me!

If anything it's more of a reason to switch to Apple. Thier designs have been rubbish for some time now, keyboards that don't work for the sake of being thinner, that rumoured new rear camera design looks hideous. Hopefully Apple can start designing products that I once loved again.

When Jobs died Ive’s designs went downhill pretty fast.
So I don’t think we will see much difference.

Apple has been prolific with new successful products across it's product lines and it shows in the size of the company. I don't expect much of a change that would appease the critics, the fans will continue to like the products.

Jonny Ive appears to have been transitioning out for a number of years. He has come up with some amazing designs, but hopefully now he is not working for Apple, different voices may get heard to allow innovation in new directions. Jonny still acting as a consultant may scupper that.

I was talking with a friend about The Jony Ives news and in the course of the conversation I said that Jony was such a minimalist that I’ll bet that he has only six pieces of furniture in his house. He added, “Yeah, and I’ll bet that they’re all white with aluminum trim.

When the Apple Watch Series 3 was released, it had a ‘red dot’ on the digital crown, the rumor was, Johnny Ive was not behind that decision and didn’t like the red Digital Crown (which was also heavily scrutinized), which was later minimized for the Series 4 Apple Watch with a red ring.

My point is, not that other contributions aren’t good for the ‘sake of design’, but clearly his design decisions were highly successful for Apple’s products across the line. Apple has award-winning designs with their products because of Jony Ive, so I’d say that Ives designs will still very much flow through Apples DNA in the future regardless of his contributions or not.

That dot was so hideous. I couldn't believe it was approved.

I think the iPhone might get better with him out.

Maybe we can finally get rid of the camera bump and stop the ridiculous need for over-thinness. If there's going to be a camera bump, fill the damn case in with extra battery.

I switched from Android to iPhone because of how long Apple supports it. Why waste money on a phone that will never see a major update?

I am not going to change my platforms because Jony Ive is leaving Apple. This does not automatically reduces iPhone’s capabilities.

However, I always like to keep my options. I do not like the concept of Apple’s walled garden, although I have embraced it due to the great experience the iPhone has been providing to me.

I keep a foot out of the garden, though. I switch between PCs and Macs, and I always have an Android phone with me in addition to the iPhone. Apple has consistently increased prices in the recent past, and it may go in a direction that I do not agree with. With Windows and Android, I have the choice of not being tied to a single company, and this is healthy. The minute Apple drops the ball, I am out.

Privacy and great service is what keeps me with apple.

The red dot on the digital crown was too obtrusive, and I don’t believe Johnny Was completely behind/supportive of the implementation. Which is likely why they revamped it the following year to make it more of a ‘red circle’ around the digital crown. But I agree, it was fairly polarizing, It definitely was disliked on the Apple Watch forum by quite a few members.

Yeah I'm going to jump to a crappy compromised company because a guy who hasn't had a hand in designing Apple products in about 7 years is now officially not designing Apple products in 7 years.

Depends...

Depends how much either Samsung wows me, Blackberry comes out with a true Bold 9700 successor, and How revolutionary the Next gen Motorola Razr is... not in any particular order

But damn how I miss those Blackberry Keyboards

We already know that Jony was not very involved in the past few years anyway. Why would you jump ship without any information about future products the company will develop without him?

Baffling declaration. Remember, the overwhelming number of Apple product consumers don’t know who Ive is and why should they? I have no idea who is behind the design of almost everything I own or come into contact with and I don’t feel I need to know. The only exception is art and handicraft I buy on the street at home and abroad.

Privacy and great service is what keeps me with apple.

Apple seems to be much more concerned with privacy than Google or Microsoft. However, I think the level of privacy that any of them can provide me is enough for my needs. I am not putting state secrets in my phone anyway, so I see no need to worry so much.

As for service, I do not have it. I live in Brazil. There is one Apple Store here in Sao Paulo, and I have to schedule in anticipation of talking to any Apple Genius. Guess what? I was never able to talk to an Apple Genius here, because all times are always full. Service is always very poor here, regardless of the company I buy from. Apple is a bit better than other companies in this respect, but I do not rely on this.

I buy Apple products exclusively for the experience they provide. If I can find the same level of satisfaction on another product, or if Apple products become too expensive or burdensome, then I have no problem at all in switching to another platform.

Yes, according to the latest news, he was not too involved. And Apple’s products, for the last few years, lacked innovation. They are great, of course, and they have become more premium than before. But Apple failed to deliver a truly revolutionary product (such as the iMac, the iPod, the iPhone, the MacBook Air and the iPad) after the passing of Steve Jobs.
