Still a beauty.

I thought of building mine into a coffee table as a iTunes/TV listings/browsing OSX-embedded-furniture thing, but I just can't. It's too awesome. ;)

Apple's style is just changing, and watching the evolution is half the fun. We're in that in-between stage. Remember when everyone thought the G5 PowerMac was ugly and mis-matched? ;) (Eww! A cheese grater!)

Now!, that's an idea. I have 2 extra B&W casings around which could be the ends, put the functional unit in the middle to help support the glass surface, drill holes in the floor to run the wires, and that would be a great, fun setup.

recently, I was rebuilding a B&W G3. The windows-box users I work with thought it was the most amazingly, cutting-edge-designed computer they had ever seen. They didn't believe it was a decade-old.

Sorry, I'm new to Apple. I don't know it. Can you show me?

I think Apple are putting aesthetics before other considerations.
Function seems to follow form at Cupertino at the moment.

I still think the B&W G3 is one of the nicest looking computers made.

I don't think it's gotten any better or worse than it's been in the past. I like the look of the new iMac and their other products but it seems people may be forgetting the hockey puck mouse, the ugly bondi blue PowerMac, the toilet seat iBook etc. I think those all looked pretty darn bad and, in comparison, the new stuff is pretty incredible. In general, they have hits and misses. We just remember the hits historically and then think they're going "down hill" comparing new stuff only to the great stuff we remember but forgetting the mistakes.

I've read some more posts and it seems a lot of people liked the blue power mac. I thought the best decision they ever made was to make it gray.

They are just moving the product line around. It can't be done overnight. Just like when Apple moved away from colorful Macs to white, it took time.

The MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, White MacBook and Mac Mini are all due for a change up in looks. The MacBook Pro, Mac Pro and Mac Mini are all the same from the PPC age, with good reason. Apple wanted to keep older users feeling like the intel Macs were the same Mac they love, but with new speed. Now since the general feeling is that Intel hasn't ruined the Mac, Apple feels like they can move onto a new look, so comes the new iMac.

Wow, those are really cool looking! I don't like the panel colour, but the rest is very contemporary looking even now.

I think the new iMac design is nicer. I have a white version and now feel they look old fashioned... makes me want the new one... I guess thats exactly what apple want me to think!

i got the impression that they partly moved away from plastic for recycling reasons?

Over the hills and far away...
The MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, White MacBook and Mac Mini are all due for a change up in looks.
I personally hope the PowerBook/MacBook Pro design never changes... The whole reason I got a MacBook Pro was because I was still so in love with the way my PowerBook G4 looked, even though it taxed my budget a little too much.

I mean, what more can you want from it.

I challenge you to come up with 3 solid reasons that it should be changed (and the fact that the design is 5 years old does not count)
